We have a daughter who attends Mizzou so we have stayed numerous times at various hotels in Columbia but never stayed at this Holiday Inn across from the Columbia mall. It more than met our expectations from how nice the room was, atrium lounge, sports bar/resturant & other nice resturant. The staff were all extremely pleasant as well. Our daughter has 2 more years left at Mizzou and our youngest may attend Mizzou as well. We will certainly be back many more times and will stay here for sure!

My daughter and I got in quite late in the evening and the front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming. This hotel is also very conveniently located to Mizzou where we were headed for our visit the next day.

Because all of the smaller (newer) HIE motels in Columbia were full, we went to the Holiday Inn Executive Center because they had rooms available. The least expensive room rate was significantly higher than the HIE rooms. The room was an "old motel" style room. Two double beds, no queens or king. The mattress was terrible, uncomfortable, and made sleeping almost impossible. Neither I nor my wife are large people. The bathroom was tiny, furniture was beat up, carpet was old and worn. The buffet breakfast, which was expensive, had plenty of hotel employees in attendance. However, they just seemed to stand around doing nothing while diners were unattended and the buffet serving table was a mess.
I must assume that the higher room rates are necessary to cover the cost of keeping the lobby bar open, as I never saw a single patron at that bar. Also to pay for the employees standing around in the restaurant. The extra profit certainly does not go into capital improvement or updating of the rooms. I always stay in Holiday Inns and am a Gold Elite rewards card holder. If all of the Holiday Inn Express motels in Columbia are full, go to a different chain establishment. This place is terrible and then they charge you extra for this bad experience.
We stayed at five different Holiday Inns throughout Missouri over nine days during this trip. This was the only one that was unacceptable, and it was more expensive than any of the others.
The woman at the check in desk was very nice and did a good job.
