Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Jeff13 Good front desk service. The restaurant service was slow.
The restaurant service was slow and it took awhile for someone to greet us at the table. The front desk was busy and didnt greet me as a priorty club member. There was no shampoo and conditioner or soap, I had to ask for them from the front desk. I have stayed at other like properties with compariable amenities and have had much better service. There are not stairs that lead to the lobby area, only to the outside with no re-entry.
I would not refer someone to stay at this property.

We spent three nights due to a family medical emergency at the hospital across the street. From Charles at the front desk, to the ladies working in the restaurant, to the housekeeping supervisor, all the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. The treatment we received from the hotel staff helped during an otherwise sad time. Thanks.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by HarryV Older building, poor maintenance...
I should start by saying that the main reason I am a priority club member is due to the fact that there are some holiday inn hotels in key destinations where I vacation with my children (ex. six flags, great america). Apart from that, I have no other real reason to be a member. In addition, pricing is not at the top of my list, as I travel with my work and I have several choices I can make in lodging.
Having said that, I should also say that my work takes me to several midwestern cities, like Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Columbus, Cincinnati, etc. Over the years, a pattern has begun to emerge: in all these cities, there seems to be a series of Holiday Inn hotels, which are older buildings. These particular facilities, including the one being rated here, are starting to look and feel "tired". Yes, the common areas are usually well-kept, but step into the rooms and the picture changes: Loose doorknobs, poorly patched and painted interior doors, plumbing problems (often slow-draining tubs), and the most unforgivable of all things: half-clean rooms. In addition, if you are in the "wrong" part of the hotel (high floor or outter perimeter) you may have better luck with your laptops aircard than you will with the hotel's WIFI...
In my last stay, shortly after I checked into my hotel room, I went to use the restroom. To my shock, I found a tub no customer should ever have to encounter: A sticky, yellow substance was at the bottom of the tub, just sitting there. I immediately called the front desk and I was moved to another room. In the next room I encountered a set of bathroom blinds that did not work. I went to close them with my hands and discovered that these blinds had not seen a towel or a duster in a LONG time. In another holiday inn (Libonia, MI) I even encounter roaches in my room...
Now, I should say, the staff in all of these properties were understanding and accommodating. They provided me with new rooms quickly, they added bonus points to my account, even took a night's stay entirely off my bill. However, does it really matter how good the staff's service is, when they are responding to conditions a customer should never encounter?...
After all these years, I have made a decision: I will try the Crowne Plaza hotels, where available, and perhaps the newer holiday inns. If that leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth, it will be time to join another hotel chain...

I was pleasant surprised at the comfort, cleanliness and amenities at the hotel. The hotel atmosphere with the restaurant, bar and lounge areas were enjoyable. Staff were very helpful and having the shuttle stop right in front of the hotel during the Arnold Classic weekend was a huge plus! I enjoyed using the fitness center during my stay. I will certainly return on future visits.

The staff at the hotel are very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and ready for early check in. Fitness center was clean and everything worked. $10 to park but I was able to keep my car in the lot for the entire day and was only charged one night. Internet was great for work, room needs additional electical outlets. The housekeeping inspector Jenny was great!! You get 25% for being in the loyalty program to eat

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by marrbarr Why have a restaurant?
This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel in 2 weeks. Each time I also booked a room for co-workers. Joe at the front desk was great. The rooms are comfy enough for me, typical business room. They do have MSNBC and the Golf Channel on their cable. The gym was clean and all the machines worked, same w/business center.
The big complaint each time was the restaurant. The first time I got in a bit late from the airport and a flight crew member said I better order to go, because the service was so slow. The food was average, but it did take time to come, and the server/hostess/cook? looked like she was run ragged. I found food outside the hotel after that.
The second time I was there my co-workers went down for breakfast in what they thought would be a decent time. The server was rather brusque with them and told them they wouldn't get served in time. So they went to a hotel close to the convention center and had a good breakfast.

I felt the staff were nice, friendly, helpful. The restaurant has limited hours, so I didn't eat there. The Electrical outlets to plug in my gadgets was a total pain. Next to the bed was an extension cord going to another outlet with both plugs used for the lamp and the clock, which left me with no outlet other than the one in the bathroom. I didn't even see an outlet to use the iron.
This was an inconvenience.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Sexton3 Very disappointed
We used our priority club points after a wonderful trip to COSI with our son..... 1st we were extremley disappointed that we were not even recognized as platinum priority club members. 2nd the room was extremley small and the beds were only doubles not queens. The air conditioner/heater was extemley loud and it was either FREEZING or BURNING UP. The beds were horribly uncomfortable (my husband had to have a massage that week bc of how beat up he felt after sleeping in the bed) and our 6 year old even complained about the pillows being old and no shape, to which we agreed. 3rd the indoor pools heater was broke. We are not usually ones to complain. We travel all the time and 95% of the time have wonderful trips and great accomadations. I would like to complement the the chef, bartender and server that was on duty the evening of Sunday January 20th..... The food and service was excellant.... we very much enjoyed the food and great casual conversation.
I just hope that not all travelers experience what we did during our 1 night stay.
Thanks,
The Sexton's

I am a platinum member, I was not offered an upgrade. The room I did have, had ratty carpet and 2 outlets. i have stayed there a few times over the last 5 years and am not if I have ever had an upgrade. I like the area and may have to switch hotel chains this one is not meeting my expectations. I have been a platinum member for about 6 years in a row.

The hotel is an older hotel yet clean and comfortable. Good value and the staff is amazing. My room was clean, the bartender Pat was a great guy and the front desk and shuttle drivers helped me around town for the week I was there. Every staff member I met was friendly and willing to help. I will be back again.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ColumbusVisitorDisgusted No chair or ottoman in room
We stay at this location often because it is in close proximity to family. However, our last few stays have been less than desirable. We just left the bright, clean and delightful Holiday Inn in Athens and came to stay in Columbus. The room is dingy and not clean, the floor has not been vacuumed in a long time, the tub looks disgusting to step into. There was no chair to sit upon in the room at all, just an open space where it should be. I mentioned that as a frequent guest in a hotel that has less than a half dozen guests staying in it, that getting a less than first rate room is very disappointing. The insult to the injury was the flip answer I got from the desk manager when I mentioned no chair. He glibly stated that the chairs and ottomans were removed from every room as they were a fire hazard. So insulting to be lied to right to your face and there was no reason to do so. I had not made a big deal, just mentioned it. I hope this hotel heeds the warnings that are staring at them. they need to "clean" up their act and rooms.

I travel to Holiday Inn properties all over the mid west and this may be one of the worst I've encountered. Poor service and dirty hotel, don't bother with this one.

Right from the start I knew I was going to be happy here. I feel terrible that I did not get names! The young lady who greeted me at the front desk was great and welcomed me as a Gold Priority Member and offered me an upgrade. My room was perfect; room temp, quiet, comfortable and safe. I had dinner in the restaurant and the waiter wasso helpful and nice as was the nice lady in the lounge where I had a glass of wine after. Morning breakfast was also good and I was on my way. The hotel was lovely and clean and everyone was so friendly. I stay in Holiday Inn's all over the world and they never disappoint.

We wanted to compliment, Joe, who was at the front desk while we were there. He was awesome. Joe was willing to do whatever he could to help make our stay a good one. On one occasion he offered directions to a nearby restaurant, since your cafe was closed. On another he loaned us an umbrella when we realized we had left ours at home. He was just so friendly and kind that we wanted to be sure that someone knew what an asset he is to your hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JudBenChris Hotel stay was great but restaurant was not good
We've stayed at this Holiday Inn a number of times. Rooms have comfortably met our needs and the staff is very helpful. Anything we needed they were happy and quick to provide. The central downtown location makes it very easy for us to get to our desired destinations quickly.
The restaurant is another story--friendly staff, but food service is slow. The food on the breakfast buffet was cold and some was rather tasteless. The oatmeal, however, was great and is definitely the best value on the menu. There is take-away coffee for those interested in more after breakfast.

This Holiday Inn is super!. 24 hours security, and guarded parking lot in the heart of beautiful Columbus. Its manages by Miss Melissa shows great knowledge and pride in her position. Definitely it's my choice and will recommend to anyone looking for a great place in downtown Columbus.
