Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Scottie1 A poor start!
An unfriendly receptionist offering no greeting of any sort. Room not allocated even although I am a Platinum member. Passed off with a very tired room, which we reasonably declined, although told that there was no upgrade available.
Offered a drink's voucher for 1 person for my wife and I. I would rather have no voucher than a pathetic gesture for merely 1.
Finally, when we ourselves then checked Internet reservation possibilities on the IHG site for our 4 night stay, we discovered that there were multible exec. rooms available for our entire visit.
Returning to reception to mention this, we were eventually upgraded, clearly reluctantly, and found the exec. room to be somewhat better, although it too would also benefit from a makeover. It is hardly unfair to expect a decent room for our money, is it?
Candidly, on a reasonable bed and breakfast rate, we felt this experience on check-in set the tone for our stay and we opted at that moment not to spend any more money whatsoever at this hotel. Easy to manage as there are three supermarkets and several pubs/restaurants within a few hundred metres, and when compared, we found both the meals and drinks outwith the hotel offer far better value for money - unless you have an expense account and are not interested in prices.
The lesiure centre was clean, not overcrowded during any visit, and the staff members there were extremely friendly.
There was a wedding on the Friday evening until late, and it seemed to be well staffed as there was no noise to disturb other guests.
Breakfast offered a very high quality throughout.
Over all, if the price was right I would return if needs required this. However, to us, it did not stand out as a special hotel in any way, and I feel it merits neither highlighted pros nor cons.

A top quality hotel. The breakfasts are always of good standard, and it is lovely to have fresh fruit, not tinned. The room was cleaned to a high standard, and extra soft pillows were provided.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rae123 Convenient city location yet remarkably peaceful
Booked this hotel on a great bed and breakfast deal. The room was slightly small and the bed settee was not made up as requested, however the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and organised this as soon as it was pointed out. The Hotel restaurant was expensive but within walking distance were plenty of alternative restaurants. There was surprisingly no noise at night from any of the main roads. A pleasant city located hotel.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by covhelen Good value but needs updating
Although good value for money (we stayed for 1 week) this hotel needs updating. The decor is tired (carpets looking tatty) and there is a 'musty smell in corridors & within the room (bought air freshner to combat this). The bedding is average (I had to buy pillows as theirs were rubbish). I was disappointed that the Wifi was not free ... we had to pay £5 for 1 hour and then you had to use it all in one go! Staff were helpful. Freeparking was good too. Food & drinks were very expensive so tended to eat out. The Mount Pleasant Pub was within walking distance & they serve good value food & drink.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Icybear3 Nice, Comfortable Room
Recently stayed at the hotel over the weekend. Room was a standard sized room but comfortable, with a good bed and great pillows. Breakfast was good and filling. Hotel staff friendly and very attentive. Generally quiet and relaxing except for a wedding party that spread out into the lounge, main lobby and congregated by the main door. No trouble with parking and taking the bus into town was quick and easy. Internet availability was good. Nights were quiet and comfortable with the air conditioning going to beat the heat the season. Overall a nice break!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Ubique740 What a wedding nightmare!!!
Stayed at this hotel a number of times over the last 8 years - I have written very good reviews . However our last overnight stay was the worse one we have experienced.
On our arrival we had to pass through a very large group of apparent wedding guests who were have a smoke and drink just outside the main entrance.
Our Check In was , as usual very good and smooth , carried out by Michelle. The Public Area of the hotel wad quite crowded with wedding guests plus their children! Must say that we were surprised that the Wedding Breakfast was being held in the Resturant rather than the purpose built self contained Academy area .
On our return to the Bar Area at about 6.45 pm we saw that the Bar was at least 3 deep of apparent wedding guests and children and the Resturant was being prepared for the Wedding Party evening disco. At that time the noise was very loud. A coach party plus anybody else who was eating dinner was put in the lounge area next to the Bar and Resturant . Certainly limited conversation . Because if this we declined to take our dinner .
It was apparent that the staff were trying to encourage the wedding party to go into the Resturant but they were hanging back because, we presumed the noise in the Resturant where the disco was being held . Why they were not using the Acadamy beggars belief, we were told that the Bride wanted the wedding to be in the Resturant. So the hotel obliged - guess there was a financial implication ! The other guests do not count ! Of course it went all downhill with 2 police patrol cars and police van rolling up just before 10pm to assist the staff sorting out drink fuelled problems., I also understand that the problems went on most of the evening and night, included noise most of the night in the corridors.
To be very fair, Anthony allowed us and another group to use the Academy area , this was very much appreciated , Thank you Anthony. I did speak to a member of staff who turned out to be the Operational Manager - absolute. No interest .
We will not be using this hotel on a Saturday for the foreseeable future. ( we were told that the Management would be very happy to have two weddings at the hotel on the same day ).

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Ubique740 Do not go when there is a wedding in the restaurant.
Entering the hotel through the main entrance was like going through a smokescreen due to all the smokers from a large wedding having a smoke break.
Our Check in was very smooth , carried out by Michelle who had all our details to hand. We were very happy with that . Then it went downhill. As i said earlier there was a large wedding being held at the hotel - for reasons unknown ( we did get told it was because the Bride wanted it held there ) it was being held in the restaurant rather than in the Academy which is set aside from the public areas of the hotel. The noise was very loud , 20 + children were running around the bar.
When we re entered the Bar at 6.45pm the bar was three deep with the wedding guests, a disco was being set up in the Restaurant , noise unbelievable . A coach party and others who wished to have dinner were having to sit down in the hotel lounge for their dinner . no wonder they were rushing it ! Complained to the Operations Manager who did not really accept anything that was said to him. One of the few members of staff who was concerned about the non wedding guests was Anthony who allowed us plus another party which came to have a family gathering to move into the Academy area .. This was appreciated .
At about 9.50pm two police cars plus a police van attended to assist in sorting out a problem in the restaurant , it appears that problems continued throughout the evening with the party. We were present the next day when a number of the coach party guests complained about the noise throughout the night from the wedding party.
Whilst we were very happy with the food, accommodation and some of the staff we felt that if the hotel is going to have a wedding in the public area and not contained within the Academy we will have to reconsider future bookings on a Saturday at this hotel.

Excellent central position means we have used this hotel on a quite a number of occasions. Usually we are only staying one night because we want to be early at a trade exhibition or business meeting but this time we came down earlier to make a long weekend of it. The room we had was looking slightly careworn but was very clean and a problem we had with strange noises in the bathroom was sorted out within minutes of a call. The rooms are spacious compared to some hotel chains, the beds are very comfortable and breakfast is very good and plentiful. The staff were all very friendly and polite, especially when we checked in, where they made sure our request for a Bunny Room was provided . There is a cinema and bowling alley very close by for evening entertainment.

As a priority club member and also when you show evidence to the receptionist that upgrade rooms are available you should be upgraded accordingly, not at this hotel where you are given a very below par room that had the following issues
Non flushing toilet
torn net curtains
stains on the base bed section
work tops with holes in them
and when you point this out to another receptionist all they say is it is up for renewal and repair
Very poor hotel and poor relations from the staff overall a 1 out of 10 hotel
I also rang the main booking office and was giveb no assistance regarding the upgrade

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by fluffstuff Excellent Staff
Easily accessible hotel, easy to find. Comfortable rooms which were clean and well maintained. Staff were really helpful and friendly and really are a credit to their Employer.
The only negative was that there was an end of school prom going ahead within the hotel and my Daughter (10 yrs old) was subject to hearing some foul language by the teenagers who were messing around near the play area, where she was age appropriately and they shouldn't have been.
However, this would not be a regular event and therefore would not prevent us from using this hotel in the future. It reflected badly on the teachers who were present.
Overall experience very good and cannot say enough how great the staff were.

We stayed at this hotel on a Friday night. A prom party was being held in the main area and we were in a fair off wing. The party goers spilled out of the main venue and started running around in the grounds and hanging around the children's play area. This caused a significant amount of noise all evening and through to the early hours. No-one from the hotel tried to keep them in and around the party room and so the party went on in the main hotel, grounds and car park.
Very noisy and ruined a relaxing evening and night's sleep.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Sw1969 Dated and missing attn to detail
Nothing really bad, but niggling things like...
Waiting to be seated at restaurant welcome stand, while several staff walk by.
Wanted glass of water with meal but waitress didn't do the usual check "is everything ok with your meal" opportunity.
Carvery meal service poor. I asked what something was and they told me. I said I'd like some and they said I was to serve myself, which would have been fine if the food was within reach and if there were utensils available. After a sideways glance from me the penny dropped and they pushed it nearer and provided a serving spoon.
Struggled to find room due to poor signage from reception.
Whole place very dated, including the room.
Television quite baffling.
No feedback forms in room.
On the other hand, the staff were actually very nice and the shower, whilst dated, was very good.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Engelsman Enjoyable stay for Business
I have used this Hotel for business before, it needs to be pretty good with two competitors within a stones throw...
Atmosphere and service in the Bar is excellent, unless it gets very busy!
Having a Gym on site is a definite plus.
The special Bar area for Priority Club members is only worthwhile if you want to feel totally isolated, in numerous visits I have yet to see any of the promised nibbles, and it is totally neglected by the helpful Bar staff (so stay in the normal Bar area!).
Enjoy breakfast, again service is friendly, but make sure you buy the vouchers in advance.
I'm certainly comfortable staying here, but very little (=no) reward for being a Gold Elite Priority Club member...

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Tiimd Nice hotel, great staff
Nice and clean, very helpful staff which helps make a good hotel. Vary easy to find just off the motorway. Nice that they have more than the normal five TV channels that a lot of hotels have, which is now less than most homes.
If there has to be a negative point, it's that the WiFi is not free, even for an hour, or in the bar area, like a lot of hotels are now doing.

The hotel were unable to provide an iron and ironing board until I escalated the issue to management and even then they initially said they couldn't.
No upgrade provided even though the hotel were still selling executive rooms.
This used to be one of the best Holiday Inn establishments in my opinion but has gone massively down hill recently. Seriously lacking in customer care.

I was staying because of a meeting. The staff attending to us were very good, the conference room was a good size and the lunch buffet was 5*. The room I was staying in was clean but a little small, but ok. The leisure facilities were good as we're the staff in there. The breakfast was a let down. Dried out greasy bacon and tasteless scrambled egg, not much else took my fancy. The pancake maker was broken and not enough time to have fresh food cooked. The staff again were very good and tried to make amends, stopping short of shooting the chef but giving me a refund for the breakfast. I will be back, because of all the staff and their professionalism. Well done to them.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by sachivm Very poor room service
Room service takes more than 45 minutes on some occasions - and staff does not make any effort to inform customers of the same whilst an order is placed. Moreover, in one instance, staff was pretty rude to mention that order will take another 15-20 minutes despite already having waited for 45 minutes.
There have numerous instances of no one answering the room service phone number. Just very frustrating. It seems that the hotel staff know that there isnt any other decent eating option close to the hotel, so they can get away with the poor quality of service.
Food quality is at best, mediocre and is not consistent. Wrong orders have also been delivered (e.g. sparkling water instead of still water). Surely, after waiting for 45 minutes, the last thing I want is to wait for some more time before the correct order can be delivered!

Have stopped at this hotel a number of times over the last 8 years. It's location near to the M6 J2 and the grounds of the hotel are both ideal for our commitments in the area. My Army Reunion have been using this hotel for the last 6 years and would have moved on to another hotel if the 100 plus attendees were not satisfied with the venue.
It's the staff that sets this hotel above the rest. They try to ensure that the guest comes first.every time. The Check In was smooth, again we felt that the male Receptionist had done his homework on who we were etc. Our room ,the same one we always request had been prepared to its usual high standard. Our only gripe is that it's hard to control the temperature of the room even though there is a "control panel" for the air conditioning. We always enjoy the self service breakfasts which now includes make your own pancakes, delicious .
Think the hotel are being dragged into the 21st century by supplying free WiFi in next 12 months - not before time.

Thoroughly enjoyed my 4 night stay even though I was on a training course – good leisure facilities to relax after class – good food and choices of specials every night – very friendly restaurant staff at dinner and breakfast – only down side was not being able to reduce room temp as hotel itself was very warm due to cold weather outside – and free room WiFi in the 21st Century wouldn’t be a bad idea either

One of the larger more corporate Holiday Inn's.
Still comfortable, clean and a decent place to stay but a little unfriendly due to the size of the place.
It was also some distance form any independent restaurants in town although there are high street chains nearby. But it is very handy for the motorway network
Breakfast was very good, but I had to pay for wifi even as a platinum member but this is changing at a corporate level in July - about time too.
Nice place but I prefer the Holiday Inn Coventry south which is smaller and more friendly.
