This was a great place to stop, loved the priority club benefits (candy, water and a turndown service). The inn is older and yes trains are near by but the downtown has lots of special events and the hotel was great for us

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BethS Avoid this hotel
Dirty, old smelly room. Even windows dirty inside and out. Toilet seat ajar, no shampoo. Trains right outside...front desk had no upgrade avail for Platinum member...they didn't even warn us about constant nighttime train noise. Should have offered us a room on opposite side of building, as I have read from other reviews. Sad state of affairs. Doors slamming all night, and a/c unit very noisy. Worst hotel experience my husband and I ever encountered. Never would stay there again.

Room was clean overall but carpet could use a good vacuum and cleaning. Staff was friendly and breakfast at the hotel dining room was delicious.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Pizmar Too Noisy
It was ok. I wouldn't choose it again though due to the trains that run in and out all through the night next to it. Called down to the desk a few times to ask a question, and no one would answer the phone. Called the main number and someone answered right away. ???? Didn't understand that. Aren't the phones all in one place?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Doceja A Needed Respite After an All Day Rain
Traveled all day in the rain and was in need of relaxing. The wait staff and dining took our minds away from the travel and allowed us to relax. Although near a railroad yard, the noise level was tolerable. Overall a very relaxing experience.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Cyclist2013 Started awful. Thanks to manager ended great
My check-in experience was awful but the manager made it right. As a priority club member it was the worse I ever experienced and I walked into an empty lobby. The desk gentleman was rude, snitty, uninterested and just not to par. I mentioned to the housekeepers near my room and they reported it to the manager and the rest of the stay was great and better for the 30 others from my group that arrived later in the day

We stayed here in October 2013, the staff was excellent, the room was clean and very nice. the breakfast was very good and the dining room staff was very attentive. The only down side to this Hotel was the presence of the train tracks outside. We were awakened by several trains coming through town at various times of the night and early morning. It seems there is a requirement for the engineers to blow their horn coming through town. if their is no requirement, they take a perverse joy in sounding their whistle loudly right outside the Holiday Inn. which ever it is, it adds up to a sleepless night. if not for that, i would make it my place of choice for Cumberland.

The GREAT SERVICE at the Cumberland Holiday Inn helped to make our weekend extra special and helped us just enjoy our daughter's wedding and not have to worry about our hotel. Service was great especially Paul (front desk) he did a super job!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ReSue63 Disappointed customer
I arrived expecting to be received by a welcoming staff and was treated with visible indifference . I called the front desk repeatedly without them answering. At my suggestion they sent maintenance to check and change my phone which was totally dead within the next hour. One day my room was not made up until after 4:30 pm!!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Progressive86 Never Again
I've never had a problem with a Holiday Inn property before I stayed at the Cumberland Downtown Holiday Inn. In fact, there are so many negative aspects to my 10-day stay that I can't do justice to them all in this review. I'm not prone to negativity or throwing anyone under the bus (so to speak), but my experience was REALLY bad. For starters, the staff, for the most part, acted like I was bothering them when I asked for basic things like a re-magnetized key card (which stopped working three different times during my stay). That is, the staff was unhelpful and unfriendly. That's not what I expect from a Holiday Inn property. Second, the Internet connection was out for two days and it was only after I spoke with Paul on Day Two that the connection was restored. I could go on but I think you get the picture. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, including the House of Representatives.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bicycle Living to Holiday Inn High Standards
This hotel is everything you expect of a Holiday Inn. But the plus is bicycle friendliness for those of us who stay before/after riding the Great Allegheny Passage Trail. The hotel allowed us to park our truck for 6 days with no charge while riding; there is a bicycle wash facility, and they allow bicycles to be kept overnight in the sleeping rooms. All great pluses!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LarsB Noisy rooms and excellent staff
After staying at this hotel at several occassions this became my experience with a room facing the railway.
Some nights it was really hard to sleep due to the traffic on the railway and the different drivers use of their horn.
The complete staff is very good and they make you feel as a superstar.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Austin66 Convenient to Amtrak station
I chose this hotel because it is literally across the tracks from the Amtrak station in Cumberland, as well as being within walking distance of downtown activities. Unfortunately, "across the tracks" did not take into account that the other tracks are often blocked by freight trains and that walking access from Amtrak requires a several block detour by a local homeless shelter and potentially walking through an underground passageway of questionable safety.
With more people rediscovering Amtrak train travel, it would be very helpful for the hotel to have an on-call shuttle option to transfer hotel guests to and from Amtrak

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jbarwick2 Weekend get away
This hotel is only blocks from the proximity to the downtown plaza and the old railroad station/ depot. Once you park your vehicle at hotel or parking garage across street( free wknds) you can walk to many shopping destinations and food places just several blocks away. Staff here is well trained and even as its a older building it was very clean inside and our suite was very nice. The main street and town center will probably be very nice to see with christmas decoration and the shopping by foot just a short distance from hotel will be a pleasure during holidays. We enjoyed the events scheduled in the main square Music and Model T fords from the 30s were interesting. It was a nice weekend getaway from the city to a smaller community and the hotel was well managed.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by energyrpl Not great, but not bad
I have stayed in this hotel on or about Labor day for the past 10 years. The location for my needs is great. The staff has always been very good, my rooms have been clean and comfortable. I have not experienced any problems yet. The down side is that it is located near the train tracks, but this has not been an issue to me. Unfortunately, economic times has impacted down town Cumberland. Fortunately, the area is well lit and there are several nice restaurants and historical sites near by.
If you are looking for an upscale, fancy hotel, I suspect this one will not meet your needs. If you need a good, clean place to stay, I would recommend this hotel.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by mlz44 NOISY! & uncomfortable beds
Stayed here for the Rocky Gap Iron Girl Triathlon because the resort was full. This hotel is RIGHT next to the train tracks and trains ran ALL night blowing their horn every time they passed. If the train wasn't passing by, the air conditioner was going off and on all night and was really loud. Plus the beds were only doubles. Wasn't enough space for sharing with even my small family of 4. Beds were hard and uncomfortable as well. Asked for recommendation for dinner while at the front desk with my 12 year old son. Clerk recommended the Baltimore Grill which turned out to be a bar and couldn't accommodate our dinner party of 8 (we met up with 4 oother family members) and it wasn't exactly family friendly! Won't stay here again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by larryj9 Great Biking location
Front desk staff was quick to respond to any of our questions, they also suggested we put our bikes in the banquet room since it wasn't being used, which saved us space in our room. When we went to a local rest and wanted to return home with the leftovers... front desk staff made sure it was kept cold. Its the little things that will encourage us to return !

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HollyP Excellent Staff, Excellent Room
Went to Cumberland to ride the Great Western Maryland RR w/my 11 yr. old who loves trains. This was a great experience in a hotel where many RR workers stay, which added to the ambiance for my little train lover! The staff was exceedingly gracious, making sure we were comfortable and welcomed us as tourist to this working railroad town. We were given a great room with a picture window looking onto the active train rails that run through the town center, which my son loved. We were given coupons for dinner, and a coupon for breakfast which was completely delicious- omelets, pancakes, the works. The hotel sits downtown, 3 blocks from the Great Western Maryland RR and C&O Canal Towpath, as well as the walking district a few blocks in the other direction. We enjoyed the technical aspects of the train ride and felt like we had gone back in time in this geographically beautiful, historic, mountainous region of Maryland, where pride in hard work and community is evident. We'll go again and take our bikes on the train for the trails along the canal and train line.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 1cat Did not get the room I reserved
We reserved a non smoking King Room and had a confirmed reservation guaranteed with a credit card made several days ahead of our stay. We arrived to a desk with only one attendant and several folks in line. When it was our turn we presented our reservation information and our loyalty number. After several minutes we were told there were no king rooms available and were offered either a room with two doubles on the "train side" or a room with one double bed on the other side... I asked why there were no king rooms when we had a confirmed reservation for a king and didn't receive much of an answer. We knew we would not find another room in town so we selected the room with one double bed. The room was clean and well prepared. We were by the guest laundry and folks washing clothes talked loudly in the hallway quite late.. In addition every single time we went in or out the front door we had to walk through clouds of cigarette smoke which was disgusting. Smoking should never be allowed right where folks have to walk through to enter the hotel.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Tamara19 Not what is pictured
Hotel image is deceptive...doesn't show the train tracks that run throughout the day and night. Initial room had an awful smell..second room was a little better. No continental breakfast offered nor fresh coffee and even the vending machines had issues accepting money; you had to visit 3 different floors to get a snack. Just an unpleasant experience all around.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SallyD Old Motel
This motel is old and the hall ways are dirty and with poor lighting. The room was also pretty stark, but the bed and the bathroom were clean. The parking does not seem very safe in that the lot is not well lighted. We got there too late for use of the restaurant and was recomended to walk through a dark alley to a sports type bar. The food there was OK - but a loud atmosphere for a weary traveler was not a good suggestion.
