Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a Great Place My daughter lives in Washington DC and we live in Columbus, Ohio. This place makes a great place to stay for us going both ways. Easy to find as it real close to US 68. The bed is comfortable, shower has enough room, and the room is clean. We bring our own pilows because we love our down pillows. We left them behind and called a week later and they shipped to us. You cannot beat that for great service. Highly recommend this place! November 19, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Late arrival = wrong room I called to let the staff know we'd be arriving late. Instead of getting two beds in the room, we had a king and sofa. Sofa-beds are not comfortable, especially for an 18-year-old. Sorry, but he wasn't sleeping in MY bed. I was very disappointed that our reservations weren't respected. Also, no extra blankets, either. November 2, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location Our room was very nice and comfortable. The food was excellent and the location was perfect for exploring downtown and riding the WNSR. As well I truly enjoyed watching the CSX mainline and yard that ran outside my window. That was a wonderful treat and also part of the planned experience. October 26, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Where's the soap? Aside from desk clerks carrying on a negative discussion among themselves during check in, an odd question from one to me: "Do ya want breakfast or points?" and facilities that are well past their prime and quite over priced, the oddest aspect of our one-night stay had to do with soap. There was no soap in the room. A call to the front desk resulted in a clerk telling me he "would explain the situation to (his) supervisor," and that a "number of guests had been calling about the same problem today." An ongoing problem of no soap in the rooms. And this was allowed to continue for how long? And no one on the staff is empowered to find and implement a solution? About an hour later a call came to the room. "We've found you some soap. Can you come to the front desk to get it?" How much am I paying for this service? I wondered. At the front desk was a guy dressed like a mechanic with two full-sized bars of Ivory soap in his hand. From whence they came, I can only guess. The clerk, apparently able to judge the look on my face, saw me and said, "There's your soap." A man nearby then commented, "We haven't had soap since yesterday." There's just too much to analyze here. The bottom line . . . I would think twice about Holiday Inn, and this one, in particular. October 22, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very noisy was issued Ear Plugs because of train noise!!! I have never been issued Ear Plugs at a Hotel. Staff was polite but was checked into a room that was occupied. Staff gave very poor directions to local Dinning. Hotel restaurant was closed for dinner, bar was serving food with one staff member for bar and in bar dinning. October 22, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Someone else sleeping in my bed! When I went to my room for the first time at 10:00 p.m. there were people in the bed. Scared me and them to death when I came in. The front desk said they don't know how that happened. All they could give me was a smoking room but eventually found a room that someone else had reserved. I kept waking up hearing noises thinking someone was going to be able to come into my room too. The excuse was someone was new and messed up all the reservations. I should have been given a discount or something for this but wasn't. I don't think I would stay in this hotel again. October 22, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Smokey room & hallway Even though we reserved a nonsmoking room on our credit card, we were told that they routinely overbook and had given our room away. We were given the choice of taking a smoking room or try to find another room in Cumberland. Mike did try to call 4 other nearby hotels to find a vacancy, but Cumberland was booked for the night. The room smelled of smoke and the hallway was even worse. Mike did offer us a $20 voucher for breakfast in the morning. This was enough to cover our meal. The service and food was good. Bottom line, if I reserve a nonsmoking room on my credit card, it should be waiting for me when I arrive. October 20, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Older, but clean hotel The location of this hotel was good, but it had a very busy train track right across the street. We walked to the C&O Canal and there were many shops and restaurants most of which had closed. Cumberland is a very blighted area which looks very hard hit by the economic woes of our country. Room was acceptable and clean. Only one waitress in the entire restaurant, so service was VERY slow and food was cold when we received it. October 18, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cumberland: NOT "On Board" The Holiday Inn in Cumberland, Maryland was severely understaffed. The young man "Eric" at the desk #the sole worker# was extremely friendly and service oriented... sadly he had no services to offer. We asked for a toothbrush #as the card in our room encouraged# and he apologized for having none. We asked for a hotel tag identifying our rental car in the dark lot a block away, and despite what the hotel literature states, there were no tags #Another sincere apology from Eric.# .We went to the restaurant and waited for over 10 minutes to be seated. No one ever appeared, so we left to eat elsewhere. Upon finding ear plugs in our room along with a cutesy laminated poem about tips to sleep through the night, we opened the curtains to several railways a short distance directly behind all the hotel's sleeping rooms. The trains were active throughout the night. #No mention of this was made during the reservation or check in.# We declined to shower after seeing the dirty, stained floor of the tub. I hope Eric is recognized and rewarded #relocated?# for his upbeat professionalism in this dismal abyss. October 15, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not bad This hotel is very convenient to downtown Cumberland--walking distance to everything. The property is a little dated and needs a "facelift", but overall it is comfortable. In-room coffee is great. The staff was friendly and quick at check-in. Price seemed a little high for the age, condition, and location of the hotel. Overall, though, I would return if I needed to be in Cumberland. October 15, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Annoyed Poor pre visit to room 527 to ensure everything was working, We were woken up by the airconditioning coming on then going off without it being touched, then again after midnight when it could not be stopped no matter how we tried, in the end we had to call reception to get someone to attend, even then the person attending could not stop it and did not know where the main socket was, he did eventually find it and removed the power to the unit. This was mentioned to reception when we left, they were unaware of the problems. October 14, 2012
