So, here's the good. Although the rooms are a little dated and could probably use some new carpeting, the beds were great and the turn down service was extra special.
Pleasantly surprised by breakfast. Fresh food and the wait staff went out of their way.
Now the bad - First, this is a NON-SMOKING Hotel once you get inside. Unfortunately, you have to run a gauntlet of smokers to get in the front door. No matter what time day or night there was always some right outside the front door smoking.
Front desk afternoon guy was not very friendly or helpful.
Finally, the bar staff didn't know what type of beer was on tap and tried to overcharge us.

In the lounge on a Sat night you had one gentleman we will always speak highly of. He was a one man show!! He had customers at the bar and three families with small.children at the tables for dinner. He took excellent care of each and everyone of us!! No one waited for anything and nothing was over looked. "Smitty" should be your employee of the quarter and your chef that night (Aug 17th) should also be recognized. As to why you wouldn't have a barmaid on duty to help is beyond me, but Smitty ran the lounge perfectly!!!!
Thank You Smitty!!

I like to stay in Holiday Inn Expresses and was totally surprised at the condition of my room. The carpets were never vacumed. There were cobwebs on the ceiling and the were spider webs under the air conditioner. The bed was made, and was very comfortable. Room was stuffy and smelled of cigarette smoke, when first entering. The bathroom was clean. I had dishes from room service they were covered over by a my napkin and never removed from the room. Parking was not very convenient. Sevice staff, was very tentative in getting me an extension cord to plug in medical equipment but plugs were in behind bed and not accessible, hense extension cord. He also checked cooling because air conditioning not optimal and tested. I appreciated his service. Nice bar and staff very attentative. Food marginal. Co worker received evening turn down service, I was told by front desk that there was no such thing available. We raised our eyebrow on that one. Safe environment and downtown location seemed accessible, but unable to participate due to business events.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by RKsS Close to railroad, but...
Arrived late on a rainy Friday afternoon and had a heck of a time figuring out where to park. Not nearly enough easily accessible parking spaces.
There was a smoking area directly in front of the main entrance. With the taller buildings nearby, there was little ability for air to circulate. My wife is exceedingly sensitive to cigarette smoke and this was a constant source of irritation to her
Checking was reasonably brisk. The room was adequate for our needs. The bathroom was blissfully clean with a sizable tub. The railroad tracks were fun to watch, but well before dawn on Sunday morning a train leaned on their horn 23 times for two minutes straight, ensuring that me, my wife, and my young children would not get back to sleep for at least an hour.
This hotel was close to what we wanted to do and offered good choices for locally owner dining, however, as we traveled with a delicate spouse and young children, those factors will prevent us from coming back. Others who are not similarly restricted should find this hotel adequate for their needs

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mehu More attention to cleanliness of entryway
Garbage was overflowing the entryway receptacle until the following afternoon. Also, there were large patches of mud all over the entryway steps. It was there when we arrived and still there 2 days later when we left. Someone should be checking those areas a few times a day. Terrible first impression.

After a week of traveling 80 miles one way for my son's baseball tournament I decided to use some of my Priority club points towards a nights stay to eliminate some driving back and forth. Upon my arrival I was greeted by very friendly staff who promptly checked me in and even provided my younger children with kiddie bags full of little toys which they enjoyed. I then proceeded to my room where upon opening the door I was greeted by an odor (musty/mildew) like none I had ever smelt before. At first I thought it was because the air was turned off and room had been closed up so since it was late and the family was hungry I decided to turn the air on,head downsatirs for some dinner and check on it afterwards. After dinner I returned to the room only to find although the room was very cool the odor was no better so i decided to see the front desk clerk about a resolution. After I explained my situation to the clerk she asked what room i was in and after telling her the number she apologized and informed me that room wasn't supposed to be rented due to this odor which people had complained about all week long. She went on to tell me the room had been cleaned several times including a through carpet cleaning but the smell won't go away. With this she asked me to wait a moment to see what she could do to resolve the situation. Upon her return she explained the hotel was full, gave me a $20 discount on the room and a bottle of Febreeze...SERIOUSLY! Unfortunately it was after 10pm and the thought of packing the family up then driving 80+ miles home was worse than having to deal with the odor for the night. After a long night of Febreezing the room, morning came and we went. My biggest complaint (besides wasting rewards points) is that this was a known problem and the room was still rented out. Otherwise location was great, food in restuarant was good and the staff was very friendly.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by werewolfdad Woof! Where to begin?
This was easily the worst hotel I've stayed in in the past 15 months I've been traveling for work.
I'll keep it brief.
The internet was so slow it was unusable. I was completely unable to Skype with my family. I was equally unable to stream any videos. I was barely able to use Google news or Facebook.
Front desk staff were unable to answer my call after 6 rings on two occasions. They also failed to acknowledge I was a platinum member (not a big deal) but also failed to inform me I was able to get free breakfast or a free drink. I found the tickets in my check-in packet on the final day.
Parking is atrocious. There are less than 10 non-handicapped spots at the front of the hotel. Most parking is located behind the hotel and there is no back door.
Plugs were inconvenient. I sleep with a CPAP and had to pull the couch out and run my power cord across the room. Likewise, I had to leave my cell phone (which functions as my alarm clock) on the couch to charge. Luckily, the alarm is loud.
The hotel is obviously dated. Not a big deal, but at least replace the lamps that have plugs in them. Every other hotel I've been in has done this.
The toilet didn't flush right. It had to be held in for at least 15 seconds to properly flush. The room also didn't come with conditioner. They gave me plenty of unnecessary body lotion, but no conditioner (I've noticed this is a problem at many HI locations).
Had I been staying for more than 2 nights, I would have checked out the first morning.

The Holiday Inn in downtown Cumberland is a perfect place to rest and unwind. Their acceptance of dogs (we had two with us) is a great policy and they welcomed our pets with smiles and doggie treats. Very clean and VERY comfortable beds.

I was pleasantly surprised with my stay at this hotel.
I was not recognized as a Rewards Club member at check-in, but I'm not sure what's going on with the transition from Priority Club to IHG as I've only been recognized once by any IHG hotel in July.
The front desk staff was very friendly and eager to please. I wasn't expecting turn down service and that was a nice touch.
Although the hotel itself is dated and tired in places, the linens and bedding are consistent with Holiday Inn's. The TV was a flat screen. I had a very restful stay.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Macman My stay at the Holiday Inn, Cumberland
My stay was not so good as both elevators went out and my uncle had a very difficult time getting down from the 4th floor. He had to change hotels as a result. As a priority club member I only received one ticket for a breakfast although my wife and I were staying 2 nights. I didn't find the staff to be friendly or very helpful during my stay.

The only thing that kept this from 5 stars was the fact that only 1 elevator worked while during my stay and was staying on the 6th floor.
Staff was great and full of recommendations for food, and things to do!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by gbman VERY Musty
Got to the room and it was very musty. So was the entire hallway. I think that this is an overall building problem with the vents and a/c units; or just not airing out the rooms or running the a/c when people aren't staying there. Bed was not very comfortable. Staff and food were very good. But I won't stay here again.

Two-night stay. Friday and Saturday.
Room was comfortable and spotless.
Bed turndown and treats were a nice touch.
Front desk personnel pleasant and helpful.
Breakfast very good and servers courteous and helpful. Offered to
get us a "to go" coffee for the road on our last day.
The thermos pots you provide with coffee are great. There is nothing worse than looking around for a server to refill a coffee cup..
We look forward to our next stay at Holiday Inn Cumberland!

I recently stayed at this hotel because I was travelling through the area, we typically stay in Frostburg when we are down but thought we would try this location out.
The staff was friendly, the room was large and clean, the hotel is within walking distance to shopping and food. It is an older hotel but still in good shape, worth the money.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Check in was harder than it needed to be
I booked seven non-cancelable rooms at the internet rate. After traveling all day with a large group of teens it would have been good if the rooms had be assigned and keys ready but they told me they wanted to wait to make sure I wanted them all. I told them that made no sense since I had to pay for them either way. And they coud have called me. To make matters worse it took about 30 minutes to check in because the computer was down.
The computers were still down the next morning and they could not give us a final bill at checkout.

This is a fair Holiday Inn. I don't see value for the rate they charge for the room they provide. I am a Platimum member, and was giving a room viewing the roof top and air conditioners. Was not greeted as a Priority Club member. I stay pretty much only in Holiday Inns, but what's the point in being loyal, if you are treated the same or worse than non-loyal customers. Lastly, there were several smokers at the main entrance.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by dldavis88 The bed was comfortable
We stayed in this hotel for one night to visit family and watch my nephew play in a baseball tourney. For the first time in may years I was not able to get a room before check in, but once I arrived and waited for the 2 people in front of me to be taken care of, everything went well. The room was as expected and clean.
The only problems I had in the room was a wobbly lamp, a burned out bulb in another lamp, no sheets for the pull out sofa and only one bar of soap in the bathroom. Other than having to come down to pick up the sheets, the rest were minor and reported at check out.
The main complaint was the restaurant. We came down to use our free kids meal and $10 vouchers and there was a wait for at least 15 min and looked like there were a few table not bused and only 2 people working. I could tell by the looks on the people waiting for food that they were not happy. Another person staying there said that the waited over an hour for breakfast the day before. We decided it wasn't worth waiting and paid $30 to eat at a local café.
For the most part the stay was good, but we will stay at another hotel that has an open free breakfast and an indoor pool next time.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ohioan1906 Average with pros and cons
There were no huge issues for us, but we did have a few minor hang-ups. First, our room included a mini refrigerator. A past guest's leftover Junior Mints were still in the mini-fridge which was mildly gross. Also, the hallways had a very "old" and musty smell. Also, our floor's vending area sold food but no beverages. Lastly, on the morning of our departure date, the free coffee station was completely out of coffee.
There were two positive things that stood out. Sadly, I cannot remember the name of the person who worked the front desk that evening. She was pleasant and kind and provided a kid-friendly gift package for the children. Also, I visited the restaurant on our departure morning seeking some coffee (since the coffee station was dry). I offered to pay for the coffee, but they provided full amounts of coffee in our personal Tumblers for free.

After traveling on business for 40 years, this hotel feels like what I started with. Fine for the 70's, but definitely way behind the times. Small room, noisy air conditioner, no fridge or microwave, dingy walls, dirty windows.
On the other hand, the restaurant staff and food were great.
