Holiday Inn Riverlights is the best hotel within the downtown area of Derby. Having stayed at almost all of the other available hotels I now always return to the Holiday Inn Riverlights for it's location, facilities and great staff.

Having tried several other area hotels I can not vouch for the value and appeal of the Holiday Inn Riverlights. The location is ideal, parking close by, shopping and restaurants are close also. Staff are the best!!

We were allocated one of the 6 smoking rooms this hotel has out of more than 100 rooms. Apparently on my booking I had requested a smoking room. The internet booking was shown to me when I complained that the room smelled. I explained that it must have been my error. All other doubles were taken so we got room 333, a twin. It was spacious and above all non smoking and the lack of tobacco fumes was immediately evident. Fiona on reception was great and did a good job. I must have appeared a little grumpy. The inside rooms look into the light well and consequently do not have a view. Our stay was only one night sit was OK. Otherwise it was great room. The restaurant boasts the highest views in Derby. Really? From the 4th. floor. It's not much of a view either looking over the roof of Th Eagle Market. Breakfast was good though and plentiful if you wanted. A warning here from experience. We sat in a booth by the window on a raised platform. After breakfast whilst leaving. I missed the step and went sprawling across the restaurant floor. I was shook p at the time but now, a couple of days later, I'm sitting here bruised down my left side. Please mind that step if you sit up there.

this was the worst stay in a hotel I have ever had. The staff room and cleanliness were fine but the alarm went off the fire alarm went off twice in the middle of the night resulting in the staying over an hour and a half in the freezing cold with incompetent staff who didn't know what they were doing. To make matters worse we were only given a 50% refund!

Visits to Derby are for specific business reasons, so functional factors are more important. Good service, reasonable amenities, good breakfast are key. Derby Riverlights regularly delivers this. Right in the city centre easy walking distance to restaurants and pubs. I have always found the staff helpful, professional and polite.

I was impressed at how comfortable the Derby Holiday Inn was. It was one of the best hotels that I had stayed in. The receptionist had a fantastic attitude towards deaf customers, which I had not experienced elsewhere. I would certainly recommend the holiday inn. The vibrating pillow alarm for deaf clients was fantastic and came very useful especially when there were two fire alarms during that night. I was very impressed. However, the receptionist could have explained where the fire alarm socket was when I arrived as one of my colleagues couldn't find his, but I managed to find it myself. The fact that the socket was quite close to the bed, made me wonder if there is a risk of the socket being easily broken. The socket could be a bit further away from the bed stand. Otherwise, an excellent hotel and I was very impressed.

We wanted a quick break so spent last Saturday at the hotel, on arrival the staff couldn't of been more helpful and polite, the room was very clean and really nice, we had a very enjoyable stay, the fire alarm did go off twice in the night we had to evacuate, but the staff in charge did there very best to get the incident under control, I think they did a great job. When we checked out the male member of staff couldn't be more apologetic, I think the hotel and staff are excellent will be going back again.
