Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Vivlock An enjoyable stay with great staff
We spent two nights here in mid-January when the weather outside was cold with snow on the ground so it was a bonus that the hotel is well situated on the edge of the city centre. We thought that overnight parking would be a problem but the huge Westfield multi-storey car park is on the doorstep. Guests need to know that they should pay only £7 per night by getting their tickets validated at the hotel desk then returning to collect their cars and driving straight out. Going instead to the pay machine in the car park will cost double. This is something that should be made prominent on the website but isn't.
The rooms are exceptionally well kept which is a tribute to the staff. In fact, all the staff throughout the hotel and especially in the dining area are a real credit to the hotel. Those who suffer are the ones who work in the public spaces where the ambient temperature is apt to be low, particularly in the open plan foyer where the staff were frozen.
Any niggles? Not really. We did notice that meal trays, jugs etc were apt to be left outside rooms for long periods. Also, you need your room key to work the lift - a good security idea but we were given only one key so that when I went out alone to the car the key had to be left in the room to work the electrics and, on returning, I had to walk up the stairs to our floor. A nice touch would have been a small packet of biscuits on the tea/coffee tray in the room but there was nothing and it felt a little penny-pinching. The TV had an excellent picture but there are very few channels (8 or 9) which is surprising given that Freeview and Freesat have many dozens.
Overall, this is a good hotel which serves a lovely breakfast and offers an excellent dining experience. You will find the staff very friendly and obliging from the chambermaid to the waitresses to the desk clerk. They are a real asset. A little too pricey for a mid-week visit so go at the weekend if you can when the room rate almost halves which makes it much better value.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LawrenceB perfect stay - breakfast could improve
The HI was good as always. The onky constructive criticism is that breakfast could be better. Cooked breakfast is very greasy and scrambled egg has too much milk/additions - not enough egg! The fruit salad is very average quality with some fruits not being ripe and it would be GREAT if there was some fruit to take away - just a basket of apples and bananas or similar would make such a difference. As I say, apart from breakfast, great stay :)

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cuckoo55 Excellent City centre Hotel
I was in town for a staff Xmas party, the Hotel is very well situated in the City Centre and still being new, the room was very good & comfortable. Great internet connection and the amenities in the room were excellent.
The atmosphere was a little cold for breakfast, but the food was prepared for me, rather than sitting under a hot lamp & was excellent.
The car parking is a little problematic, but being free makes up for it, overall a very good experience, will definitely stay again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tensomram47 Always great reception and room prepared for early PC check in.
As a Platinum PC member, this hotel never fails to deliver quality. It is always a pleasure to be greeted by the staff who always seem to know your personal requirements. The central position gives easy access to both the bus and railway stations together with a nearby taxi rank. Westfield shopping centre and the great Eagle market are just across the road from this modern attractive hotel. Always a pleasure.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lainey100 Central location
This Holiday Inn is new so rooms are a very good standard. Comfy bed, excellent shower, bath on small side. Food quality was good & plenty to choose from for breakfast. Staff were helpful & friendly in all depts. Only negitative was parking, this is in the multi storey car park near the hotel, but there is a drop off area to unload if required. Will certainly use again as very central for shops & nightlife.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RichardCTO Perfect for the tired business traveller
The HI Derby Riverlights was perfect for what I needed. The room was large, clean and well appointed. It was relatively modern, but still in sync with the northern Englad landscape. Parking is not bad, the internet is free but the breakfast was not. Dinner was top notch.
The bed was good sized for one and was moderately comfortable for one night. Two or three it may have been uncomfortable. The room even had an iron and ironing board. (I really appreciate being able to iron my dress shirts) Service was ok, the restaurant crew were great, the front desk did not seem to excited by my existence, but my heart will go on.
Location was good, heating/cooling was great. It was a little slow to warm up, but it got there. Overall it was a perfect stay for a tired business traveller. I would gladly stay there again if in the area.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GPJ1198 Good location
Hotel is well situated next to the Westfield Centre and the city centre. It is very nice inside, rooms are comfortable and the restaurant is good quality but overpriced for me. Wifi available throughout hotel with no charge, which I think should now be standard in all hotels. This is the second time I have stayed here and would stay again, however I had to book on the same day as staying this time and thought it was overpriced.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Harpy2112 Clean Hotel. Great Value
We have staid in this hotel several times whilst staying in Derby. You will have to go a long way to find a cleaner hotel in the UK.
The only advice i would give anyone staying is to book your breakfast with your hotel room as you will pay £10 each if you pay on the morning you are there.
Overall i would recommend staying in the executive suites as they are just that bit more special. Your wife or girlfriend will love you for it.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LorraineWB Overall Good Service but a Key bit of Info Missed
We stayed at Riverlights for 2 nights in Oct 2012 and overall we had a good stay. On check in we were welcomed and given information as to where the best place to park was. Unfortunately a key bit of information was missed with reference to parking in the multi-storey down the road which was that we could get our parking tickets validated meaning we only paid £7 for the night instead of the standard charge of £15. We had already forked out £15 and only found out about being able to validate the tickets when we checked out. The food in the restaurant was good but not out standing for the price. The hotel is in a good central location with shops and a cinema just over the road.
