We found the evening meal to be very expensive however. If we were to stay again we would eat out instead. June 18, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by noisy hotel the hotel was full of tours when we stayed , i was told there were 11 tours in that weekend, the guests were noisy when they were going through the corridorsd and all the buses picked up early in the morning. They sat outside my window in the carpark with their engines idling and the driver revving their engines. This went on for what seemed like hours. Just as I nodded off to sleep the housekeeper tried to access the room at 8.45am to clean the room June 18, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not recommended I would not recommend this hotel for a number of reasons. Upon arrival, we had to move a carrier bag full of beer cans so that we could park our car. Check in was good with friendly staff, however we were pounced upon by a staff member who was obviously eager to secure a booking for dinner in the restaurant - might be nice to allow guests time to settle in first. Our room at the front of the hotel had an amazing view over the city, but smelt slightly stale. However, it was clean. Not sure about the pillows being labelled "soft" and "firm" - couldn't tell the difference! Also although we had booked a double room, there was only one dressing gown, one chocolate bar in the fridge (odd, wondered if it had been left by a previous guest!) and only one bedside light working. Bizarrely, we were handed one chocolate bar on check out. Breakfast was chaotic with different members of staff telling us where we should queue. it was cold and the black pudding was completely inedible as it was tough on the outside and raw in the middle. I did mention that my food was cold to a waiter who told me that the buffet station i had gone to was for tour groups - do they get served the cold food?! Not a brilliant experience of Edinburgh hospitality for foreign guests. Managed to get hot food at my second attempt. The eggs were ok, but had to leave the bacon as it was ridiculously salty. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great vegetarian options & gluten free catering My wife and I are vegetarians and, in particular, my wife requires a gluten free diet. The staff bent over backwards to meet our needs and pulled it off to perfection. The morning chef in particular was especially attentive and kind. We would certainly stay here again when in Edinburgh. As an IHG Rewards Club members we were treated very well indeed too. Thanks to Jill, Claire, Emma, Kirsty, Andy, Hamish, Luke, Ash and all the other staff who made our stay a welcome change from the difficulties that we often experienced in European hotels where we stayed for a few weeks prior to our arrival in Scotland. The hotel was looking much the same as the previous visit three years ago- could do with a freshen up and upgrade of the bathroom suite would be welcome too. The hotel staff were very pleasant and went out of their way to be accomodating. The Hotel caters well for anyone on a Gluten free diet and had a seperate menu specific to patrons on a G.F diet. well done A June 13, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very friendly, helpful staff This was my third stay at this hotel and it was just as enjoyable. The staff are so helpful and friendly and bend over backwards to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. We chose not to have our evening meal in the restaraunt and were given an £18 allowance each to put towards a meal in the bar. The food was of excellent quality and the service was impeccable. Breakfast is buffet style and there was plenty of hot and cold options to chose from. The chef made me poached eggs which were delicious. There is a self service machine which makes fresh pancakes whilst you wait whichever he kids love, but unfortunely there is only one machine and there can be lengthy queues for them (my children waited in line for 30 mins for theirs!!!) But they informed me they were worth the wait. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel that has links to take you into town. We did not use the pool this time but have in the last and the kids love it. The only thing I would recommend to make the stay better would be free wifi in the rooms. We will definitely stay here again soon. June 7, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Poor food We stayed here the night of the One Direction concert at Murrayfield, check in was good, room was good, disappointed with the meal in the restaurant, we were only offered the special concert menu which was a carvery, which was luke warm at best and poor selection of desserts and was £16.95 for 2 courses, which i thought was quite expensive for what we got, would of preferred to of been given a choice and chose from a main menu. Unfortunately there was a fire alarm so we ended up outside from 11:30 pm to 12:15am but the staff were very good and gave out 'space blankets' which was good as my 10 yr old was very cold June 7, 2014

However, the maître d' at breakfast was fairly rude and made us feel quite unwelcome. He was obviously annoyed by the influx because of the 1D concert. On the other hand the "extras" provided because of the concert were appreciated eg early meals, hot dogs, late breakfast. And made the trip feel extra special. Thank you June 7, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable stay This holiday inn is perfect especially if you are going to Edinburgh Zoo it is literally next door so you don't have to get back in the car and drive! There was a friendly welcome when checking in. The room was great 2 single beds for children and double for adults. The food was good and kids loved the buffet style tea and breakfast which was included in our package. All staff we met were friendly. There is also walks from the hotel on a disused railway. The pool was a hit with the kids also. June 4, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Recommended Chose this hotel due to being located next to the zoo and also because we have stayed in various Holiday Inn hotels many times and always had a great stay. Myself and my daughter had a lovely stay with great food and helpful staff. Room very clean, free parking and regular buses to the centre make this hotel a great choice for anyone looking to stay in Edinburgh. Only downside was the room wasn't ready when we arrived after an extremely long journey but it wan't a major problem as we took a bus into the city centre while we waited. June 2, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 great hotel next to the zoo Great hotel. We picked the hotel as it's right next door to the zoo for our one night stay over. Hotel itself was great, big family room and leisure facilities such as pool, spa, gym and sauna. Breakfast was fantastic! The only downside to this hotel for us was the food in the restaurant on an evening. To expensive for not a lot on the plate. However the kids did eat free, with choice of chicken nuggets, fish fingers, noodles, pasta, chips and a salad bar. Great for kids June 2, 2014

Do find drinks prices a little high nearly £4 for my niece to have a hot chocolate but she assured me it was nice. Very close to zoo which was handy and bus ride easy to get into Edinburgh, bus stop right outside hotel, if travelling with children go for family day ticket £8.00 ride all day. Disappointed that Weatherspoon's down the road from hotel didn't allow children in after 8pm so when we went to eat at 7-15pm they said it wasn't worth staying as we didn't have time. The staff made you feel welcome and were allways very helpfull i also appreciated the the extra effort put in to help marathon runners like a pre marathon pasta menu , and other small things like information for runners placed onto the notice boards. Also great if your visiting the zoo .next to the hotel. June 1, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Another Great Stay This was our 2nd visit to the Holiday Inn in Edinburgh and was another great time, having the zoo right next to the hotel means after a lengthy drive you can get straight to an attraction without having to go any distance. And we also like that the hotel is close to the city centre but not right in it. The bus services are quick and regular. We found it an ideal spot for a 2 night visit. May 31, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Hotel in Edinburgh!! I work away a lot and seem to live in Hotels, but the staff here bend over backwards to make your stay a good one!! After over a month here, it's still nice to check in on a Monday morning!! They make hotel living into an almost normal situation. So, names. Jordan and Chris at the bar, Martina and Julian in the restaurant, Anna, Nicola, Kirsty and Emma at reception, all fantastic staff!! Well, all the staff are great, but these guys need a pay rise!! I'll actually miss this place when the assignment ends, but the hotel, staff, and Edinburgh will always have a little bit of my heart. Hope to be back soon :) May 30, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Telephone disturbance We were disturbed on first night between midnight and 1.00am on 6 different occassions. Manager eventually disconnected telephone. Not ideal as my wife is medically disabled, although I did have my mobile phone with me. On checking out, the front desk cancelled my bar bill because of the inconvenience. More than made up for our disturbed sleep and we will use this hotel again. as it is quite easy to get to from our home in Scone. May 21, 2014

Staff on reception were helpful when I requested a room upgrade and although this was not initially offered as a Platinum member they did upgrade after the initial room was not acceptable. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the rooms fleshly decorated although the furnishings are showing signs of wear. Had dinner in the lounge one night and the initial offering was not good but the chef apologised and then produced the expected meal. Breakfast was excellent and provided a good range of choice. Overall I always enjoy the stay at this hotel. May 16, 2014
