My wife, myself and two kids had an overnight stay in this hotel over the Easter period. There was a shock when we got there and the receptionist advised us that we had supposedly only booked a twin room...............not ideal for four people.............but after checking she advised it was all ok!
The room was clean and spacious and had a fine view over Edinburgh.
We ate from the carvery which was standard fare and plenty to go at. The service was friendly.
After a decent sleep - broken only by a random idiot in an adjoining room shouting at his kids (nothing the hotel cand o about that) - we hada nice buffet breakfast.
The swimming pool is small - but fine for a quick dip and there is also a sauna/jacuzzi.
Overall this is in a good location for getting into the city centre - and is right next door to the zoo if you ae planning a visit there.
This is a nice hotel and I would recommend staying there to anyone

Another excellent stay at this hotel. Food superb in Sampans restaurant. Breakfast excellent with plenty of choices. Our room was the usual high standard. Clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful.
The only down side on this occasion was one extremely rude male guest.
While enjoying a drink on Sunday afternoon when the bar was quite busy, a gentleman sat with his feet on the table, not resting against the side but flat in the middle of the table.
It was obvious that other guests found this behaviour unacceptable but the bar staff appeared totally oblivious.
They walked past his table several times and not once did they say anything to him.
Not what I expected from the otherwise brilliant staff at this hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Generally good
Overall, our stay at this hotel was good. The room was small but fine for the money - clean, comfortable well maintained. The hotel was in a handy location with plenty of buses to the city centre. It was very busy, but there was no real problems coming from this. The only negative was that our room was located at the front of the hotel with the loading bay (and rear of kitchens/bar) below. Because of this there was only one morning of our four night stay that we were not woken early by noise; 7.30 am Easter Sunday morning employees emptying bottles in the containers below. One morning a delivery lorry at 7.15 am dragging cages of boxes across the pebble dash loading bay, another was 7.30 am and the refuse collection truck. The other morning it was 6.15 am someone disposing of something below the window. A nice stay here, but if you find yourself this side of the hotel, don't expect a lay-in!
(Chinese restaurant across the road was excellent!).

Having booked this break for it's location adjacent to the Zoo before reading reviews,we arrived with a certain amount of trepidation, having read many quite negative reports of other peoples stays.
I don't know which hotel was being reviewed so badly as We have nothing but praise for H.I.Edinburgh Zoo.
The hotel was extremely full, it being school holidays with over 120 children in residence and yet every member of staff with whom we came into contact was helpful and courteous in the extreme.
We would happily stay again (out of holiday time) particularly if the hotel gave us a couple of free nights at "Festival" time as a thank you for this very nice review.
My one criticism is that the parking facilities are inadequate for the large number of families staying at this time.

I was down for a hospital check up at Maryfield Hospital. The staff were excellent, I had phoned beforehand to book a table for dinner as I was meeting a friend later on at night. The staff in the restaurant were excellent as were the reception staff who booked me taxis to the Hospital and the train station.
I know that the hotel is very popular for children, but unfortunately the room I was in there were a family above me, the children were still going about after 11am and were up before 7am in the morning, which meant that I did not get a good nights sleep.
Apart form this I would highly recommend this hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HG21 Excellent Staff & Servce
I stayed at this hotel for 4 days over Easter & found all the staff to be so friendly, caring & helpful. Reception staff were amazing & went to great lengths to help with any request. Restaurant staff were so friendly & eager to assist & domestic staff so friendly & polite too.
The only downside to this hotel was the lack of parking - after 5pm you could use the zoo car park if there were no hotel spaces but if you arrived between 10am & 5pm & there were no hotel spaces & the zoo car park was full it was impossible.
I think a great many hotel guests came by coach so had no worries with parking issues but if you had a car ............?

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by EasterZootrip Staff certainly don't go that extra mile.
I booked this overnight stay as an Easter treat for my two children as we were going to Edinburgh Zoo for the day which was next to the hotel. We booked the package which included breakfast and dinner. I made the mistake of buying an in-house movie which meant the children were in bed later than usual and we all woke up at 09.55am. I quickly dialled reception as soon as I woke to ask if the breakfast was on later due to the Easter holidays and got a firm reply 'No'. I was explaining that we had just woke up and I didn't think all three of us would be able to make it down to the restaurant in 5 mins and we had already prepaid our breakfast. The receptionist replied 'that's a shame' in a stern tone and promptly hung up. I was astounded at the poor customer service. We could have all made it down to reception in about 10 - 15 mins...and whilst I realise that it was our 'fault' ...I also think the hotel could have been more understanding. So for this reason I would not book this hotel again. I did tell the reception upon leaving that this was my only complaint on otherwise a very pleasant stay. I recommended that maybe in future for the Easter break when children are off on school holidays that the deadline for breakfast could finish at 10.30am or 11am. I told the receptionist that I was going to have to get the children something to eat on the way home as they had nothing to eat yet. Again the receptionist had a chance to say 'We can make them a sandwich now if you want since you had already prepaid for breakfast'..but no.
