Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Cold and modern atmosphere Upon walking in the door, I realized this was a modern hotel. The gentleman that checked me in was very friendly and recognized me as a Platinum member. My room was very comfortable including the bed and pillows. I ate at the restaurant for dinner-twice, and breakfast. The food was delicious. The gentleman I talked to in the morning must've been having a bad day. He was short with me. I asked him about a complimentary breakfast voucher and he was quite rude. He actually made me feel like I was lying to him when I said I usually got a voucher. The IHG properties need to be consistent. I've mentioned it before. One thing I would change about this property is getting some comfortable furniture in the lobby. I was stranded there for 2 nights due to a winter storm and it would've been nice to sit in front of the fire and read. February 5, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good People I was trapped in Effingham when my truck went off the road during a blizzard. The highways were closed down for four (4) days. The staff took care of me and all the other stranded travelers, always having road, ice, and tow ban updates ready if you asked for them. Some the staff was trapped in the hotel as well and worked 48 hrs straight without relief. If I ever stay in Effingham again, I will stay here. January 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Staff We were on our way home from Indy and had to pull over in Effingham due to a snow storm. We choose Holiday Inn for their restaurant and bar. Due to the town pretty much being shut down, we wanted a place to stay where we could get food. We went down to the bar where we found Tara. She normally is a bartender. Due to the severe weather, she was bartender, room service, and waitress. She always had a smile on her face, even though the group swamped her with orders (everyone was all very understanding) and she did a great job keeping up with all of the demands, not to mention the cooks. Towards the end of the evening, the crowd gave the staff a round of applause. The staff at this hotel went way above and beyond their duties and we all had a great time. If the staff can handle this much pressure on a snowy snowed in night, they can handle anything. Kudos to the entire staff at this Holiday Inn. It was a memorable evening and met a lot of nice people. You deserve more than a 5 star rating. January 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Decor and Atmosphere We loved the decor! From the minute you walk in, it felt like class. The dining and sitting areas were wonderful, classy. The workout room was top notch with balance equipment and free weights, too. Our room was very clean, ample towels, just a little darker than we're used too. We had a nice suite with very comfortable furnishings. Our experience for dinner was perfect. I had a salad that had nice greens, and mashed potatoes to die for. My husband had a BLT that was not too big or sloppy and steamed vegetables that were perfect and not mushy. The staff were delightful and the place was quiet, comfortable. I would recommend this property to anyone! January 4, 2014
