We stayed here as part of a wedding party (the wedding was held elsewhere). I can't fault Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port! Lovely location right next to the canal so plenty to see for the kids. Close to the M53 and Chester so lots of places to visit.
Lifts up to different floors so all rooms seem quite close to reception. We had a family room (231) which had a sofa bed made up for our 2 & 3 year olds. Great view of the canal. Fantastic air con which was needed in the height of summer! Nice and clean! (I'm a bit finicky about cleanliness but was pleasantly surprised!) I'm not sure if they change the duvets depending on summer/winter but it was a bit thin. Perfect for hot summer nights but I'd want more for winter!
Staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help us, especially my mum who wanted to organise a special room for my newly married brother. They also arranged a table for us all for breakfast (there was 14 of us).
Swimming pool is good too! Although maybe supply more padlocks, they gave us a male and female one. Which meant 4 girls had to cram their stuff into one locker which didn't have an arm band on it so we had to place it at the side of the pool. (This is me just being picky as I can't think of any real negative points!)
Would highly recommend! Great if you don't want to spend the earth but want a decent room, great breakfast and a really friendly service! (Night porter/bar staff were especially attentive).

We stayed one night mid week, it was our third visit and our third stay at this hotel which we use as a base for visits to the Cheshire Oaks shopping centre and Chester centre. As always the room was clean and tidy, food excellent and staff friendly and efficient. Unfortunately it was difficult to sleep due to the rather noisy air conditioning unit outside our room, number 207, in an attempt to get some peace we closed the window and turned on the air conditioning unit in our room, unfortunately this was almost as noisy as the unit outside though with the advantage that we could keep the room cool, essential as it was a hot July evening. We would stay again but not in a room adjacent to the hotels main air conditioning unit.

Although the setting for this hotel is beautiful I found the room basic. I asked for pillows from the selection and was given extra pillows which were the same as the ones already supplied. There was no fridge in the room in which to keep drinks cool. The room was small and claustrophobic.
