Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by poor meal deal - 2 courses £20 inc 2 drinks the restaurant was not busy, but the service was very slow. Both the starter and main course were very slow in arriving, with the restaurant manager explaining that they "were cooked to order" however they appeared mass produced and not freshly cooked. Discussion with her resulted in an apology and a free round of drinks. Staff did not appear very knowledgeable although they were polite and friendly. The red wine available for the drink offer was pretty mediocre as well. Shame because overall the hotel is pleasant. Stayed 2 nights but made sure we only ate one evening meal there! Great bed, good shower and excellent service by reception, breakfasts are fine March 29, 2014

Always guaranteed a comfortable stay, with friendly staff, a good bar and restaurant and all mod cons. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by peppa tastic weekend Thank you, thank you lovely weekend, was visiting peppa pig world and stayed overnight with you, welcome was warm (especially after an exhausting day with the kids and peppa), room was big and comfortable, and breakfast was amazing, good choice, kids had a bit of everything, pastry, cooked breakfast, fruit and finally pancakes, lovely choice. Check out was smooth and the kids got raisons and curly wurly, just in time to see beautiful wedding cars (wedding fayre at hotel) If we are ever in that area again...we will pop in March 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by VERY busy yet friendly hotel I received an extremely warm and genuine greeting at check-in and experienced no issues with my room. Whilst I didn't dine in the evening I did have breakfast the next morning, and with a large convention in the hotel I found that many items had already run out / been cleared away when I went to the buffet around 8am. I was able to find items I liked, but the choice was much more limited than normal, and as advertised, and I did not have the time nor inclination to request and wait for other items. All in all a good stay and I would stay again. March 24, 2014

We went out to dinner in the evening but our breakfast in the nice dinning room was very good and the staff also very pleasant. Our checkout was faultless. We defiantly will stay here again! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by I think I must be staying at a different hotel I've read a few reviews about this place, some telling of being greeted with a glass of champagne upon check-in, comfortable rooms and good food. Well, this has not been my experience. I had to check whether I was staying at the same hotel as these people. I have stayed here many times over the past couple of years, and while service in general has shown a marked improvement, it still falls short in many respects. Firstly, I can't even bring myself to go into the restaurant any more, since the last few debacles. Don't get me wrong, the restaurant staff dealt with the issues very quickly and efficiently, but usually the reason I end up in a hotel restaurant is because I'm tired and I want convenience. The quality of the food in no way reflects the price, which is about the maximum that can be charged in a hotel of this standard. The grill menu isn't terrible, but I've never received something quite as I ordered it. On the four occasions I can recall that I ordered steak, no single order came up the way I ordered it, and the steak was tough. A decent cut will set you back around £18 with a sauce. Not good. I sent one back the other week being so tough I could barely cut it (they don't even give you a steak knife), which was dealt with quite quickly, but considering the first one took about 20mins to arrive, and the second one arriving in another 15 minutes or so, I just choked the second one down despite it still being very tough as it was late and I was tired (oh, I was the only one in the restaurant by the time I'd finished). The staff are friendly, and do deal with these problems quickly, but after a while that's not really the point. Recently I ordered an extremely overpriced 'special' pasta dish in a tomato sauce. I'm pretty sure they put some oregano and garlic paste in half a can of Heinz Tomato sauce over a few frozen meatballs and some previously cooked pasta and bunged it in the microwave. Just shy of £15 for that. I would doubt if the raw ingredients exceeded £1 - certainly didn't taste like that. You'd seldom pay anything close to £15 even in a top class Italian restaurant for this sort of thing (or a nice, tasty version thereof). The beds are hard, the pillows are cheap, uncomfortable (and usually hard). Linens of basic quality. The rooms are ok, but really could do with a bit of a refresh. There is very rarely an iron provided in the room, even though I believe this should be standard equipment for every room, especially for a business hotel. If you ask for an iron when the hotel is full, you have a 50/50 chance of getting one. They aren't steam irons either, even though you can get one from Asda for £5. They seem to think it reasonable to charge you the equivalent of a months rent for an hour on the Internet (ok, I exaggerate but it is expensive). Considering you could go and buy a 3G dongle with a months worth of internet for around the same price, why would anyone ever bother? I'm pretty sure FREE internet access is standard these days, in almost every hotel and restaurant I visit aside from IHG. I might sound exceedingly difficult to please, but these problems become exceedingly apparent after staying here more than a few nights, especially on business. It becomes annoying to stay here. I certainly do not look forward to it. I've stayed here for the last three weeks, and still at reception I get the 'Have you stayed with us before?' line. "I was here last week!", is my reply. Even though I've probably racked up over 60 nights at this place over the years, no special treatment as I fell from Platinum to a bog standard IHG member again as I didn't spend the requisite million nights at IHG hotels last year. Mainly because I didn't want to, I might add. I don't think I expect too much - a comfortable bed, a decent nights sleep, a good meal at night (which doesn't cost the earth) and a few amenities in the room. That's the stuff which makes business travel less tedious. I know, because most hotels these days get these things right! February 25, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel welcoming and room very comfortable and spacious W have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions and were pleased that our room this time was even more spacious and comfortable than usual. Breakfast, as always, was very enjoyable after an early swim in the very good pool. Our evening meal was enjoyable and the service good. Our son and his family live in Gosport and the hotel is conveniently placed for visiting them. We will definitely continue to use the hotel in the future. February 14, 2014

The pasta was dry and obviously re-heated (perhaps more than once!) and there was only one cheese available on the cheese board, but apart from that the food was fine. Great venue for our companys christmas party, everyone commented on how friendly the staff were, how clean the hotel was, fantastic party. The room was comfortable, clean and a pleasant temperature that was easy to control (unlike most hotels, which insist on turning the heating up far too high). All of the staff, from reception to bar to room service, were incredibly friendly and helpful but special mention must be made to delightful staff at breakfast, for whom nothing was too much trouble, even when the restaurant was full. This is one of the best holiday inns that I have used, and I will definitely stay here again. December 4, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by poor facilities heating not working.phone not working.only told the day before arrival that the swimming pool area was closed for maintenance when you knew weeks beforehand that it was due.stayed here 5 times in the last 2 years never been a problem always enjoyed our stay.feel like we have been let down.one of the reasons we stay here is because of the the swimming pool, sauna etc.we would have still stayed if we had known about the closure but now we feel that you have been very underhand.despite this we have still booked a christmas break on the 24th and 25th of december.this is only because of passed service we recieved.we believe in giving people a second chance. On arriving I was very pleased to see how nice it looked from the outside. Even more pleased with the very friendly greeting when i went to book in. It was very clean and tidy, compared to some i've stayed at, and the room itself was immaculate. Very comfortable bed giving a great nights sleep. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting the area. I'm not usually that fussy about where I stay, but this was one of the best. 5*s from me to all the staff. November 13, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by not for us We stayed here over half term and have used a Holiday Inn in a different area before and can honestly say this stay was not as good as our previous experience. On a positive note the hotel was really clean, the room we had was clean but very dated. The swimming pool was very off putting and was dirty and slimy round the edges and green in colour YUK. we were informed by pool reception staff immediately that we had to keep to a roped off area if we didn't intend to swim, I felt this was very unwelcoming. We later found out that the pool was being closed for 2 weeks after half term for cleaning and not before time. The pool is roped off with 2/3rds for swimmers and a small area for "play time" as a board informed. We were also told by a person in the pool that if we wanted to swim we had to be in the next part as where we were was for playing. Then the pool was cordoned off even more to half of the 1/3rd so swimming lessons were on, at one point it was standing room only with at least 5 families squashed in a very small area and 2 swimmers in the rest of the pool. Breakfast was uninspiring and the staff except 1 were very unfriendly, did not take away the dirty dishes and guests had to keep asking for items that had run out and not been replenished. A waitress dropped a lot of plates and cups behind our table there was no apology despite the shards of china hitting our feet. My son wanted an omelette I asked the chef if this was possible he replied "well you'll have to wait it will take time" I didn't dare ask for a veggie sausage after that and we never asked him again for anything. we chose to eat out due to the staff and food choices they need to consider more variety for vegetarians and they have a couple of lovely places to eat nearby. We will be returning to the area but definitely not staying here November 6, 2013
