Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not Impressed We had two rooms for a Monday and Tuesday stay with the family. We were not greeted as Priority members (Gold Elite), asked later if I could get a welcome bottle of water. The pool area was trashed after the weekend and was still a mess when we left. Had to beg and fuss to get a late checkout on Wednesday. June 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Excellent! A friend & I went last month , we liked it so well my husband & I went back this month for our 36th anniversary. The beds are very comfortable we came home and bought one! The staff are very friendly, cheerful, and went above and beyond to make our stay pleasurable. The hotel is located where you can go to The Strand in minutes, walk across Seawall Blvd. to the beach,& Millers has great food which is in walking distance. The view is spectacular! Wish we had stayed longer. The fun part Is to be up on the 4th-5th floor looking at everyone at the pool, profiling everyone, and making up their life stories! People watching at it's finest! We would recommend this to all our friends and I know we will be back!! Thank you HI Seaspree!! Please keep up the great work! Sincerely, L& Em June 8, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by not enough staff - pool not heated They didn't have enough staff to handle the breakfast rush on a holiday weekend and we waiting over 15 minutes with out anyone addressing us. I had to get up and go to the kitchen and corner a server to get assistance. The reason we choose this hotel was because we wanted to enjoy the pool and swim up bar but the pool was too cold to swim in and this location did not seem to have any options for heating the pool? This is the first time I have been in a resort style hotel which didn't offer a heated pool or section of the pool which was heated. It was very disappointing that over a two day period we were not able to enjoy the pool or swim up bar - our reason for visiting. June 1, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Some issues of concern One of our two reserved rooms was not ready when we checked in close to 4:00 p.m., which surprised me. Then, on the second day, housekeeping failed to clean one of our rooms until so late in the day that we told them to skip it. I've been a Priortiy Club member for years and this was the first time that anything like this has happened. Being a holiday weekend probably had something to do with why things moved so slowly both days. June 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Vacation before and after Cruise. The Holiday Inn Sun Spree in Galveston Tx. is one of the best we have stayed. The staff at the front desk were very welcoming, made everything seamless on check in and check out. They bent over backwards to see that we had everything we needed. We only had one problem on both stays, our room safe did not work on the first stay and there was no room safe on the second stay. Both times the staff took care of the problem in a timely manor. The bar staff, Sean and Brook, were excellent. Great people, and great drinks. Tommy worked in the restaurant, and also did everything he could to make us feel welcome. Like Family. We enjoyed it so much, I have already made more reservations for later this year. May 31, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing 4 day stay The entire staff was friendly, responsive and professional. All the way down to the guys emptying the trash cans. Everyone smiled and had a warm greeting for us each time we saw them. They took the time to learn my name and when some small issues arose, like no TV remote in the room..They were very quick to respond. I would surely reccommend. The food was reasonably priced and really good. The pool was super clean. We were in walking distance to everything. I don't think I drove my car once while there. I plan on returning in a month! The only thing I would have liked to see would be a complimentary continental breakfast. Everything else was Fab. May 28, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not clean. When we got into our room, my husband went to put his stuff in the nightstand and there was a huge ball of hair in the drawer. We went to the front desk and they changed our room and apologized for it. The view was the only good thing about this hotel. May 20, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Noise, more Noise and Lights I brought the family down to Galveston Island for a weekend while I attended a training course during the day at a local military base. We paid extra for a room on the top floor, affording us a preferred view of the Gulf, which it did provide. However, the angle of the hotel does not allow you to see the sun rise in the morning. Quite a disappointment and the view is NOT work the extra $$$s. We were told when we checked in that a band would be playing at the Tiki Bar until 10:30pm and it might be a “little” loud. This little gem was not at all mentioned on their webpage when I was making the reservation. Still, 10:30pm was not unreasonable were fine with that, especially since we had to paid for our entire stay in advance. What were not told was that the music from the bar would be blasting until 2am. On top of that, there was only a paper-thin shade (made of paper) covering the window which allowed the pool, bar and street lights to shine brightly directly into the room. In addition to that, poor insulation of the door to the adjoining room allowed the shouts, screams and profane tirades of our neighbors to be easily heard, which was the only thing louder than the bar music. The front desk did send someone up to their room after we called and complained and the noise from the room did stop (for a few hours). THIS WAS FAR AND AWAY THE WORST NIGHT I HAVE EVER SPENT IN ANY HOTEL ANYWHERE. The next day, we were moved to a room on the other side of the hotel and we spent a relatively quiet night compared to the previous evening. This “resort” is not at all family friendly nor is it a value for the money. I would recommend this hotel to college students looking for a good Spring Break bender, but that’s about it. May 10, 2013
