Upon arrival, we were informed that the room that we had not only reserved, and paid for in advance, was not available. The lady at the reception desk wanted to upgrade us at an extra charge. We had already paid for an upgraded suite. Then she wanted to put us in a smoking room. With allergies to cigarette smoke, that did not work. Finally we were put in a lesser room at the same price. Of course this room was on the first floor. Traffic is very noisy in this part of the city, so that was an issue. Then at 10:30 at night, jackhammers would start on the sidewalk outside of our room. They would not quit until 7 AM. We stayed for 4 nights with no sleep. The staff thought that this should not be an issue. Also the air conditioner did not work very well. It would not cool off in the room until about 4 AM.
I would mention that the bellmen were quite helpful in arranging tours and making suggestions for nice restaurants. The hotel restaurant did not care about service either. Right on the front door of the hotel, is a sign that says it is 100% no smoking. The waiters would seat us right in the middle of several tables that were smoking. The hotel has designated smoking rooms. I don't understand!!!

iDork Right in the heart of Guadalajara
The building is right in the heart of Guadalajara, el centro. Steps away from Catedral and all the interesting and colonial spots. During our stay they were working out on the street all night and we thought it was going to be noisy but to our surprise, we did not have any issues. They do recognize Priority Club status and we got an upgrade to a suite.
Well kept art deco building inside and out. All personnel is truly gentle and friendly. We want to remark that because they were all attentive and always eager to help. There is one new restaurant "Dolce Mexico" which offers a breakfast buffet that needs a lot of improvement and downstairs a coffee shot "Tabacchi".
Overall we did have a great experience, a tip if you go to the airport... Arrange transportation with the bellboys, you get a better rate than taking a regular cab.

We enjoyed our stay, the staff is very friendly and helpful, our room was comfortable and quiet, we will be back for sure and highly recommend it.

We stayed 10 days late February 2013 in a 2 Queen junior suite. It was a nice and bright and roomy with good beds. The staff are very accommodating and friendly and all speak English . We stayed there for 10 days February 2012 and found that the same accommodation in February 2013 had some maintenance issues.
Apart from that it was a good stay and we will probably return next year.
Do not recommend the restaurant, The food was terrible and not up to the quality we expect from a Holiday Inn. On the other hand the coffee shop is great.

If you want to be in the old center of the city where the catedral is located, and don't mind to listed to the traffic this is the place for you.
The breakfast is good value, but for lunch and dinner there are better options in the next 4 to 5 blocks.
At night there are some places not so sure will recommend but as in any big city you shall get local advice to where and at what time to visit any place.
Taxis are on hand at the street next to the corner.

location, location, location. Best location for enjoying the wonderful sounds and sights of Guadalajara. Food was great as was the service. This is the place to stay.
