The staff at this hotel are its greatest asset. I stay here frequently and find problems of different sorts during most stays. However the staff always respond with alacrity to resolve the problems.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Riki93 Wheelchair customer
Despite having booked a disabled room and clearly having a wheelchair guest ,we were sent initially to a room where the wheelchair could not even get through the bathroom door! On returning to reception we were told there were no available disabled rooms, however within a few minutes one was found and the staff could not have been more helpful throughout the rest of our stay. Breakfast and Dinner were very good and staff helpful. Great location for Wisley Gardens and a trip round Guildford Cathedral.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by RW78 Lovely Duty Manager however terrible meal
My daughter and I stayed overnight during April in a twin room. The room was lovely, beds comfortable and the bathroom was more than adequate however slightly dated. We stayed on a Dinner, bed and breakfast rate. The meal was one of the worst I have eaten. My steak was chewy and the deserts were really poor. The service in the restaurant was very slow and we waited around 45 minutes between each course. The duty manager came into the restaurant and she cleared our plates away and reminded staff we were waiting. The staff were very nice, just really slow. The duty manager was excellent and really pleasant, had it not been for her I think I would have complained. Breakfast was nice however no-one offered us tea or coffee and by the time we could get a member of staffs attention we had finished our breakfast. We took our tea back to our room to drink when getting ready.

I can't fault the staff at Holiday Inn Guildford. I stayed on and off for a couple of months and the staff were always brilliant, and happy to help and look after you. Chloe's hot chocolates were brill and Jen's were great too !!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Not really impressed
We were upgraded to an exec room due to problems from a previous stay. For that we had a minibar (unused), 1 dressing gown and 1 pair of slippers. And a bit of a hike from reception! Would definately not pay extra for any of this!
Also, this hotel has a lower and an upper floor-plenty of stairs but NO lifts, so be aware if you have heavy luggage.
DOWNSIDES:
Manager stood and watched a fight between friends in the bar rather than stopping it. Therefore we were subjected to appalling language and some rather aggressive behaviour, literally right in front of us. It was quite alarming and distressing.
BAR AND FOOD costs are ridiculous, even compared with other similar hotels-£9 for a glass of wine!!!!?? Certain this was a 100% mark up on the BOTTLE!! Food, although very expensive, was not the gourmet style it tries to portray, quite average in fact. Had to remind staff to bring the side accompaniments. And I believe that food is prepared by bar staff as kitchen closes midway throughout the evening.
WIFI costs are extortionate. In this day and age, think this is certainly over the top.
In this climate, I think companies should be paying more attention to these kind of details rather than relying on brand reputation. People WILL vote with their feet!

We had two nights in, what we had hoped was a twin room -turned out to be a double bed and a sofa-bed. I asked whether the sofa-beds were comfortable. and. with an affirmative answer, we agreed that the room would be OK.The sofa bed was a complete disaster, very uncomfortable and of a poor standard - HOWEVER, when I went to reception and mentioned this, a wonderful female manager came, sat on it and agreed it was dire! (She said it was an "old style one" which would soon be replaced)
We were offered another room which was WONDERFUL - warm and comfortable EXCELLENT!
We had an evening meal in the restaurant the two male managers were both SUPERB very attentive and even turned up the heating for us - my companion was feeling a little unwell and was finding it very cold.
The food was very tasty, served piping hot AND on HOT PLATES -yippee!!
We were both very impressed by the friendliness of the staff and for that reason alone, would recommend this Holiday Inn to anyone. Well done to them.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by lisajane3 shortage of food again!
there was no granola or meusli available at breakfast for our recent stay, and last time they ran out of yogurt and fruit. Seems the policy is to keep no spares as both times they said delivery was due that day. We don't all want a fried breakfast!

I stayed for a couple of nights with my elderly patents and the staff were extremely helpful. Despite there being a wedding on the first night we had an undisturbed night's sleep. The rooms and food prvided were both to a good standard. Good access from A3 but no traffic noise in rooms.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by kerry28 A VERY RELAXED STAY
My husband and I stayed at the Holiday Inn, Guildford, Easter weekend and enjoyed it immensely. The Spa facilities was just what we needed to de-stress. We enjoyed a wonderful 3 course dinner which was well presented and served by staff who could not have been more accommodating. We have stayed here before, and would stay again and again, and most certainly recommend it to others.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by scouserman Recent Stay
Bit disappointed with our recent stay which was to just relax for a couple of days.
2 adjoining rooms for our family- one of the rooms looked grotty with marks on furniture and chipped furniture. Also, some paintwork and other surfaces looked like they needed a good clean e.g above headboard.
No real recognition for priority club and I assume no free paper due to Easter.
Pool is very good but unfortunately had to wait to get in due to being full.
Restaurant food was as expected but on both nights, the wine we wanted was out of stock. Cookies and milk for the children didn't go out until 6pm on the second night which with the restaurant being unavailable until 7.30pm, my 7 year old became quite tired and grouchy.
Main problem this time was check out ! Bill came to much more than expected due to one of our rooms food being put on the bill despite us paying for 2 double rooms for dinner and breakfast. This then resulted in us having to go through all the food on our bill to check what should have been and not been there. I was a little annoyed to say the least. I wish staff would realise that if we have bought 2 rooms then our 2 children in that room should be entitled to full menu and not free buffet for children .

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Castlearcher Very good standard
We had a room that had a sofa bed in it. It is very worthwhile trying to get these rooms even if you only have 2 people in the room because it is the same price as a double and much bigger. We didn't stay or breakfast because we thought the price was excessive so went to another hotel where it was only £6.95!
The bar service was very good, the staff freindly and welcoming.
Would definitely recommend for a stay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BigAln Very good. Recommended.
We only had an 8 hour overnight stay but during that time I could find absolutely nothing wrong with any part of our stay. We didn't eat so I can't comment on that side of things. Was very handy for the Uni which is where we needed to be for the day. Literally 2 minutes away. Just off the main road but there was no traffic noise to disturb us. Quick check in and out with very polite staff. Clean and tidy in all the areas we went to within the buildings. Absolutely no complaints at all. Highly recommended.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by sargan Good Room
I use HI Guildford frequently .... as it is right location for my business needs.
Not ideal location for non-business though, as remote form city centre & transport.
I had an upgrade to very good room - 368
This could have heal a family of 5 ... huge room, with a large lounge area.
Met all of my business needs - lighting, desk etc.
Bathroom good for HI as it had a separate shower rather than over the bath variant.
Food in evenings is OK ... I went with bar food, and it is good quality & reasonable value for money .... but they put hot food on wooden planks - would much prefer a plate. Difficult to eat off a flat piece of wood ... food moves around too easy.
Breakfast was quiet this week, standard of presentation improved a couple of months back, and it continues.
Simple things like stacking bacon 'on edge' means it drains of oil, and is much better than a simple pile of food sitting in oil.
The quality of sausages is however still disappointingly poor ... you are cooking & presenting it well, but the quality of meat and fact they are deep fried means they are not very appetising (and certainly not healthy)
I guess you have contracts - but improved quality would be welcome.
Some choice on low-fat yogurt would be nice - there is currently no choice.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Porphyro Friendly efficiency
I have been using the Guildford Holiday Inn for business stays for several years. The reception staff are always friendly and welcoming and on several occasions have gone out of their way to pass on incoming messages promptly. It's always a good sign when, upon checking in, there is a friendly and personal word of welcome from staff who remember you from previous stays.
Also worth a special mention are the restaurant staff for their helpfulness and the genuineness of their friendly welcomes - especially when I stay after an absence of a few months.
Particularly enjoyable are the evening receptions for Priority Club members. It's good to meet other guests and senior hotel staff over a glass of wine. The conversation is good - and so is the wine!

Perfectly adequate with good staff but no special factor.

Corridors and lower floor chilly in cold weather.
Restaurant menu Ok only and overpriced.
Ok as a one up from Premier Inn.

Santosh Nice Hotel and great service.
I Stayed at Hotel Holiday Inn Guildford for 49 nights from 10 Dec 2012 to 28 Jan 2013 my room number was 223.
This hotel is very nice . Lobby is lovely and my room was really nice with very nice appointments and TV. There was a really nice large bathroom, comfortable bed and pillows. I have nothing but compliments for this hotel and the price was reasonable.
The breakfast is good and the drinks at the bar are nice.
Since i come from India and i am vegetarian i was finding it hard to adjust with the food style in UK. However the staff at holiday inn the chef and the duty managers helped me by making some special Indian dishes for me. This made my stay very comfortable. Even though one of my colleague left the hotel and went for a hotel in town i preferred to stay at Holiday simply for the service and friendliness of the staff at the Hotel. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I am looking forward to come back.
Thanks

We stayed here for a weekend, I was working and my wife was shopping. The staff are really friendly, reception staff always have a smile and will always sort out any problems. Breakfast time is a delightful experience even to the point of asking my wife if her tea was cold and would she like it replaced - she didn't. The evening buffet meals are good value at £20. A small glass of wine was expensive at £6.75 but my wife said the wine was nice. I stuck to my pint of Becks at £3.90. The swimming pool is really good and again the staff are very welcoming. Overall a very nice weekend. Shame about the internet prices but many people have already commented on it.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Huang disappointed this time
During the past one year, I stayed in several different Holiday Inn hotels. I have to say that my recent stay in Holiday Inn Guildford is so so.
Maybe because I have been used to the heating system used in Canada and US for a long time, the most uncomfortable feeling duding my recent stay was that the temperature in the room was not enough, especially during the first week of my stay when the temperature dropped sharply. The temperature shown was 28oC but honestly I thought the thermocouple must be out of order. Unfortunately, the quilt is really thin. After several cold nights, I had to fold the quilt into double-layer quilt to keep me warm in the night.
Anyway, I guess the temperature I experienced in the first week was not typical British so it would not be fair if I complain too m uch on this issue.
When I checked in, I asked whether I could get upgrade because of my platinium memebership. The answer was no because of the unavailability of better room, but I could get some extra service. However, I did not see any such extra service during my 2-week stay. It was not until today when I happened to look at the detail of my invoice did I find out that I was charged for 1 pound per day for the newspaper. Noboday told me that it is not free, and I have never been charged for newspaper during me extensive stay in Holiday Inn in US.
I have to say, however, the service of the hotel is really good. I have stayed in this hotel twice during the past 2 months or so, and I have been always satisfied with the service.
