Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Child-friendly experience We always stay at the Hemel Hempstead Holiday Inn to break up the journey from Derbyshire to London to see family and to make it a mini-holiday for the children. We love the evening meal and especially the buffet breakfast -my sons cannot wait for another chance to make their own pancakes! The swimming pool is great, especially the fact that towels are provided and you are not left with your own soggy ones for the rest of your break. We enjoyed the chance to relax with a film in our spacious family room. The only negatives this time were that the room was very very warm, so we turned the thermostat down at bedtime and opened the windows, but then had the noise of returning revellers outside. My son and I finally fell asleep at 2.00 a.m and didn't find the bed very comfy. My other son was comfier on his sofa bed but I really think there should be a mattress protector between the mattress and sheet, particularly on a bed which on most occasions will be used by children. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent customer service from Hemel Hempstead staff team There are always those little things that you look for in a hotel - and when you are away from home comfort is paramount because you are in a "strange environment". Crystal working on reception was a gem with a smashing welcome and helped us book a good time to eat between coach parties, brilliant. The room was a little hot and the air conditioning wasn't very responsive so Crystal said - "Call anytime day or night and we'll get you some fans or whatever is needed" to deal with improving the experience. The Rewards Club discount for eating in the restaurant was a recent addition so using that on the set menu needed to be explained - and staff responded again really well. I must say it was not a "large" executive double room but it had all the facilities including a well stocked mini bar. We shall certainly consider returning to use the lovely swimming pool and hot tub when our schedule permits. Well done. May 25, 2015

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Business stay I've been here several times over the years. The bright spots are the restaurant and staff. The room had issues and when brought to their attention, they resolved them quickly but many of them should never have been a problem in the first place. Broken/non-functioning locks and burned out light bulbs? Really? The downside is that there aren't many amenities within walking distance. May 19, 2015
