I am amazed how good the staff were considering the fabric of the Hotel, the general appearance is shabby and the heating was not working. The sofa in the bedroom had threadbare arms. I have never had a bed as bad as the one in room 32 it should be destroyed immediately.

As with other Holiday Inns, this hotel has an air of grandeur that is lacking in rival chains, yet the cost of a room, with IHG Club membership discount, is no greater. Rooms are generously sized, and every effort had been made to provide those little extras: a good quality sprung mattress with a padded mattress topper as well as a quilted cover beneath the bottom sheet; the clever shower curtain fixed near the top with poppers to ensure efficient laundering, hanging on a curved rail that prevented it from clinging when wet; individually regulated radiators which put the power of heating control into the hands of the customers. My only reservation, given that we arrived rather late and the radiator thermostat was slow to respond, was that the room was rather cold on the first night, and might have benefited from pre-heating.

We stayed at the hotel with three children. The staff were excellent and the kids eat free menu was great value. The 'Deben suite' is very spacious for a family. We enjoyed using the David Lloyd Health club which is a short walk along the road. The swimming pool (inside and outside) was fabulous, with many other entertainments such as squash courts, table tennis and even a mini cinema!

The hotel is nice. You get to go to David Lloyd's gym for free which is good. The wi-fi is a true disappointment.

the hotel is conveniently placed to allow visits to Dedham, Flatford Mill, Pin Mill, and other places of interest in the Suffolk and Essex borders, rivers Stour and Deben and Orwell.

Stayed while visitng family, with two grandsons joining us for sleep-over in the hotel. Thy liked it a lot, especially the little in-house gym. All staff were very pleasant and helpful, and breakfast was tasty with wide choice.
Areas for improvement:
Plaque says hotel opened 1991. Looks like the window-frames haven't been painted since!
Scrambled eggs in buffet look reconstiuted.
Free access to David Lloyd centre is a bonus, but getting in was a bit of a hassle - ideally room key would suffice.
