Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by KCVisitor This old house is terrific
This hotel property has experienced multiple lives since it first opened back in the 1960's (or was it the 50's). Holiday Inn has lifted this hotel to a worthy property once again at a reasonable value. Our stay was impressive; beautiful lobby decorated in the holiday (Christmas) tradition, great breakfasts (only meals we ate at the hotel), clean and large room with comfortable bedding, fresh and clean bathroom. The biggest plus: friendly and courteous staff at check-in, in the restaurant, in the hallways! That makes a huge difference. I would return here.

Sums up my stay. Don't try to sleep late because the cleaning staff is in the hallway talking and banging by 8:30 a.m.. You won't drink much in the bar either at $5 per beer and zero atmosphere.
The beds were comfortable and a free breakfast was offered so like I said, there's better places and worse places to stay.
I could tell the front desk only recognized me as gold member because she had too. No enthusiasm towards guests, just doing her job.

I always enjoy staying at this hotel. The rooms are clean and the service is great!
The location is also a plus! It is within walking distance to the Plaza.

Very nice hotel with nice views of the Plaza. Easy to walk to. The lighting ceremonies on Thanksgiving day were a lot of fun. I was surprised to see so many people there all having fun and no one was shopping! Just out having a good time. This hotel is so close that we could have walked to the plaza. I drove my car and parked in a 3 level garage and could not get out for 45 minutes! Next time I will walk from the hotel!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ajchristo Not the worst, but definitely not the best
I stay at a lot of IHG hotels and do so because I genuinely like the rooms and service. I chose to stay here despite some of the other reviews I had read and partially because of some of them (some were very complimentary).
Pros: Room was clean, nice area, close to the country club shopping area (just be aware, if you are planning to walk to the area it is a steep climb back up the hill to get back), priority club members were given several options-free breakfast, drinks, or points. The manager I spoke with was very polite and helpful. People in the hall were loud, but the room stayed pretty quiet even with the noise.
Cons: I wouldn't expect this to normally happen, but it ticked my wife off so I would get in major trouble if I ever book here again. One of the staff at the front desk gave us directions to get to our room by telling us to go to our left from the desk, take another left to the stairs and then follow the hall straight ahead to get to our room. So we took our kids and luggage and followed the directions only to discover that if we had gone a different way we wouldn't have walked completely around the hotel and could have used the elevator to get to our low digit second floor room. The wifi also had a sudden outage, when I called the front desk the same gal that misdirected me told me that it worked down there just fine, despite my explaining that we had 3 computers and each had hooked up to it perfectly fine before we went to dinner and now it wasn't showing. I spoke to the manager as I was walking downstairs (he was very polite and engaged me by asking how my stay was going) and he said he would check into it, by the time we woke up the next morning it was going again.
Breakfast, staff was polite, food could have been avoided.
Again, not the worst Holiday Inn I've ever stayed at, staff was overall friendly, if your expectations are low, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beth33 Front desk staff was great
We enjoyed everything about this property. In checking in, a gentleman named Washington was delightful. While visiting the bar, our bartender Brian, was very well informed, extremely friendly and quite good at his job. the morning breakfast buffet was enjoyed by all. They had a shuttle to transport us to and from the Plaza which was the icing on the cake.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by caill Front desk and shuttle amazing
From the moment we called to be picked up by the shuttle, we knew we had picked the right hotel. The front desk staff (who were sometimes the shuttle drivers) were so friendly, helpful and efficient...no waiting. Hotel is easy walk to Plaza, which means easy walk to outstanding restaurants. All in all, just a great experience.

The entire staff was so helpful and went above and beyond. My father-in-law is an early riser (4:30 am!) so he sat in the comfy chairs in the hallway only to be treated to a fresh cup of coffee while he waited for us. Now that's service!

I stayed at this hotel during a Women of Faith event. The room was wonderful! The shuttle to the event was an added bonus. I appreciate the hotel going beyond its usual circumference for this event. The underground parking was nice. The only concern, was service for dinner was a little slow.

My son was attending the wedding of a college friend in KS, MO. I was helping with the hotel part and my son was greatly relieved that part was handled so professionally by Country Club Plaza that it made the entire weekend trip so enjoyable. It will be a time that he and his friend will always remember. Thanks to everyone who helped! A greatful mom

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JoeNoGo Less than desirable for a plaza hotel!
I travel a lot for business and I’ve stayed at many Holiday Inn locations. There were only two good things about this hotel; the close proximity to the plaza, and the waitress at breakfast, who was outstanding. The staff at the front desk were rude, never smiled one time during a 4 day stay, and seemed to appear inconvenienced by my audacity to stop by to ask simple questions. The hostess are breakfast never smiled once, just seated us. The underground parking spaces are way too small for any decent sized vehicle. The room was old, outdated, and in need of complete renovation. The bathroom was so small that my wife and I could not stand side by side to get ready. It was clean and the heat worked. The signage throughout the hotel is very lacking. If you go in one elevator the levels of the hotel and parking ramps are labeled something different than you will find in another elevator. There are few markings on the walls to give any indication of the direction to the main lobby, the workout room, or the pool (which, by the way, is only an outdoor pool). I'm a Priority Club Member, but nothing about my stay made me feel like I was a priority. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience for a “plaza hotel” and I we will not be staying here in the future. I would advise finding a different location if you want more than a place to sleep.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kelli67 Proximity to Plaza/Service
Great proximity to Plaza. At check-in clerk was not attentative to us; was busy helping more than one person at a time. Also, choose the free drink tickets for being a priority member but did not feel like a priority member when using the tickets. Bartender in lounge did not attempt to wait on us -- had to get her attention. Not friendly. At breakfast had to ask several times for coffee.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by KCinOctober Great location & service but poor parking options
I'm giving an overall rating of "average" because this hotel met our needs (we were in town for a wedding in KC) but it did not exceed our expectations. The location was great (walking distance to the Plaza) and the front desk staff was very courteous/polite.
We were disappointed to hear that a continental breakfast was not included in the price of the room. Additionally, we were very frustrated when we returned from the wedding Saturday night to find the hotel's parking garage was at capacity. We were told to find our own parking on the street.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by PPC83 Look Elsewhere... Like the HI Express a few blocks away!
I will start by saying I do quite a bit of travelling for work and have stayed in many Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express locations and have always had wonderful experiences. That was until I got to my room in this hotel. I walked into the lobby and found what I expected, Beautiful lobby and a nice knowledgeable staff. Everything was great until I parked my car in their underground garage. First, the parking spots are way to small for an average size car. This makes parking difficult and the rental had a few more dings in the doors when it was returned. I then made my way to the room to find grungy old and smelly room. It was clean but extremely run down. You could tell room had been a smoking room in the not to distant future from the pungent odor when you stepped in the door. Only way I was able to stay in room was to have the window open the entire duration of trip. Another major issue was toilet would not stop running. all day and night you could hear the water flowing making sleep an impossibility. I expect more from a holiday inn. Only up side was the hotels close proximity to the plaza making walking to the shops and restaurants a quick and easy stroll. I will definitely look at other lodging options next time I make my way through Kansas City.

We really enjoyed our stay, it was short but sweet. Mary - our waitress for breakfast was WONDERFUL. We had 3 of our grandchildren with us and she not only was a great waitress, but treated them like they were royalty. The way to a Grandmother's heart is through her grandchildren.

My stay at this property was fair. The hotel personnel were accomodating but not overly so. The room was cozy but the decor was not. Parking is ok as long as you dont come in after midnight - then you have to go to the hotel desk clerk to let you in. I arrived one night at 1230 and cars were parked everywhere because there was not enough parking slots downstairs.
I think its time for a Carpet change.
This was my 2d time at this hotel in a span of 3-4 years. There has been a slight improvement, but lots need to be done.
The breakfast- the wait staff were SUPER!! The breafast itself was fair. bacon halfcooked, potatoes overly cooked and terrible coffee.
Might want to make a deal with Starbucks!!

Ashley at the front desk was so very helpful, with great suggestions on dining, etc... The young lady who helped me making the reservations, and suggested the Priority Club membership was also great. We had the benefit of free breakfasts, plus a bonus of free wine in the evenings.
The gentleman who drove us to Fogo de Chao's for dinner was very courteous and professional.
Made our honeymoon visit a wonderful experience. Thank you very much!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KCAIMom Missed meal
We had gotten a coupon for a free breakfast for two. The time on the card said that breakfast on Saturday was until 11:00am. My daughter and I went to have breakfast at 10:30 and was told by a dinning room staff member that "Breakfast was over". When I checked out,the front desk person said "Oh yes, that is wrong on here." So we had to change our plans for that morning because we had to go and find a place to have breakfast . It 's not good to have a teenager up before noon on a saturday, and then make them wait for food.Maybe this could be changed so other people won't have the same problem.
Our overall experience was excellent and we will be staying at this location again, very soon I hope. The location of the hotel is great, close to many of the fun things that K.C has to offer.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by rmwe not very welcoming
The check in was very impersonal and did not recognize that I was a Priority member. There was no mention on what services were available or any offer to be of assistance if needed. The room was just an average remodeled Holiday Inn room.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by chris57 Poor gym
Attention to detail lacking. If my room was non smoking, why was a cigarette hole in the cushion of the chair. You call that a gym? Very few exercise machines. No towels available and no antibacterial wipes. I had to ask the desk clerk for them. Then he said they were ordered. What, no one could go to CVS and pick up some? However, when I brought the towel issue to the clerk, he took care of it. TV set was unplugged. Had to plug it in myself.
