Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by confusing and poor customer service i had a terrible experience during my time at holiday inn worlds fair, beginning with check-in and ending at check-out. prior to my stay i had called to confirm my reservation and to make sure we would have a refrigerator in the room, as we were there for a body building show and my boyfriend would obviously need somewhere to store all his meals. I was told they were available upon check-in on a first come, first serve basis. I asked the front desk person as soon as we arrived and she said she "didnt know if there were any left, but if there were it would be to our room in 15 minutes." so why couldnt she just ask someone and let me know whether i was getting one or not? i wouldnt have minded waiting to find out. as this was a first come first serve deal i didnt want to go upstairs and someone else take it. but we did anyway, and after being in the room for 30 minutes and still no refrigerator I had to call back downstairs where the same girl said it was on its way up. finally, after another 15 minutes we got a fridge, which by the way, ended up being a $7/night charge that i was not previously informed of. The man working at the coffee shop was extremely rude and seemed to have no idea what he was doing. I asked for a small iced coffee with sugar free vanilla and skim milk. he sets a cup on the counter and asks me "how much coffee do you want?" i looked at him blankly, because i have never ordered a coffee at starbucks and had them ask me how much coffee i wanted in the cup. when i told him i was confused as to what he was asking he seemed very condescending and agitated at my stupidity. i guess he was trying to see how much coffee to milk to ice ratio i wanted, but again, he is the "barista" and should already know these things. the next morning we were up at 7 am and were one of the first people in the restaurant when it opened. we enjoyed the buffet. however, as we were paying for our food, it was THEN that our server informed us that we didnt have to get the $10+ buffet, they had a menu we could have ordered from and he was "letting us know just in case no one had told us." well no one had told us and that would have been nice to know when they brought us our drinks. later that afternoon we went back to the cafe for lunch after the pre-judging show. first we were told we would have to wait for a table to be cleared for us to sit down, even though there were only 4 tables of customers in the entire restaurant and obviously there were plenty of open, clean tables. when we finally were seated, it took over 20 minutes to order food from the same server we had that morning. in the 25 minutes we waited on our food, we watched another table who came in 10 minutes after us, receive and eat their meal. when we finally got our food it was good, we scarfed it down as we were starving. then we had to wait another 20 minutes to get our check. our server then comes over seeming very confused, saying something was wrong with our check and half the stuff we ordered wasnt on there but an order of pickle chips was, even though we didnt order pickle chips. basically i think he gave our check to another table and just asked us to pay someone else's order. which was fine because it was way cheaper. finally upon checkout on sunday, i received our total, and there was a $30 charge from the restaurant. we never ordered room service and both times we "enjoyed" our meals in-house, we paid there. when i disputed this charge, i was treated as if i were lying until they begrudgingly removed it. did i mention the hotel also pre-authorized my card for $300, more than $75 of what the total actually was, ON THE DAY I CHECKED IN?! in every case that i have travelled, they waited until checkout to bill me. no big deal, but $75 of my money was tied up the entire trip. all in all, this was not an enjoyable stay and as someone in the service industry, i can say they need to step up their game. The customer service was not only up to par but they were absolutely genuine about wanting to assist me durng my stay. The rooms were great and very comfortable. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room, close to downtown Rooms were comfortable. Hotel is in a nice location adjacent to World's Fair park and within walking distance to Market Square. Staff is friendly. Shuttle is available and driver is friendly. Please note that there is an additional daily charge for parking. I wish they provided refrigerators in every room. You can rent one for an additional fee. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. August 12, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good location and great service We visited Knoxville to experience the rebirth and dining of downtown. We also visited the University of Tennessee campus and long time friends. We needed access to handicapped room which was available to us at no extra charge. The front desk staff was very pleasant when we arrived. The bathroom had the necessary bars and walk-in shower. The locations were very good for the downtown area and the university. The proximity to the interstates was good for visiting friends and heading home in a timely manner. August 9, 2014
