I look forward to having a comfortable bed and a quite room to recuperate. The holiday south is central located from the shopping mall, restaurant and my family which I came to visit after 10 years from my last visit. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not up to Par This was our second time to stay at this property and it was alot different than the first time. We arrived around 3pm to check in. They were a little busy but we did not have to wait. After giving my name, the clerk said we did not have a reservation for May 1 only for May 2. Fortunately, I had saved the email showing my reservations. I pulled it up on my phone and showed it to the clerk. She consulted with the manager, who happened to be at the front desk. He told her to go ahead and check us in. She printed out the folio and told me to check it and sign. I found that they were trying to charge me about $30.00 more for the night than what my original quote was. Again, I showed her my email and again she consulted the manager. He told her to give me the rate I was quoted. All of this and there was never any "I'm sorry" or anything. We got our room key and went to our room on the 3rd floor. When we opened our door, the room had a very strong mildew smell. After unpacking, we were on our way out to eat and my husband pulled the manager aside and told him about the smell, he said they would take care of it. When we cam back the smell was gone. The next morning we got up and went down to have breakfast, leaving our do not disturb sign out. After eating, we went back to our room for a few minutes and then left for the day, this was between 9 and 10am. We took our do not disturb off the door on our way out. When we returned at 10:30pm, I noticed the bed was not made, but did not worry too much about it. We had clean towels in the bathroom, so we figured maybe for whatever reason, the just did not make the bed. Then my husband noticed the garbage cans had not been emptied and there was still toothpaste in the sink. So, our room was never cleaned that day. We were too tired to call and have it done that late at night nor did we want to have to go sit in the lobby while they cleaned. The next morning at check out, I told the clerk and another one that was listening went and asked the manager about it. The manager said that we had requested that our room not be cleaned. I don't know where he got that from because we never even spoke to anyone on our way out that morning and it did not have anything to do with our do not disturb sign being out for a short time, because they put the new towels in our room after we left the hotel for the day. The first time we stayed at this property was much better and there were no problems. I will admit that they did correct what they could, but there were never any apologies or anything. We had stayed at another Holiday Inn in San Antonio just a month ago and the clerks were much nicer, they even acknowledged that I was a Gold Elite Member and made us really feel welcome. The property in Lake Charles was just the opposite. They never even commented on the fact that I was a member of any kind and sort of made me feel a little embarrassed that I was having problems. This will be one property that I will not come back to. I love Holiday Inn's and always look for them when I need to stay at a hotel. I will not let this one instance ruin all of the rest. When you drive up to the hotel everything looks good and when you walk through the front doors everything looks like a real nice upscale hotel. The guest room I stayed in was covered with pet hair and smelled like pet urine, also the WiFi never worked. When I told the front desk about the problems I was experiencing I felt like I was getting the cold shoulder. Someone from management was suppose the call me to discuss this but I still have not heard from them. I guess once my credit card was charges, that it. May 6, 2015
