Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mixed feelings. We booked 3 rooms as there were 7 of us attending a family wedding, 2 of the rooms were fine but one of the rooms, which was on the second floor, smelled distinctly of cigarette smoke, not strongly enough for us to want to be moved but not really what you'd expect in a non-smoking hotel! The room over-looked a flat roof which was strewn with cigarette ends and empty cigarette packets, and an empty vodka bottle. I would hazard a guess that it is a favourite haunt for sneaky cigarette breaks for staff as there were far too many cigarette ends for it to have been a previous guest in the room. Despite this, I would still recommend this hotel. It was otherwise clean and well maintained and the staff polite and efficient, and even with the hotels proximity to the M6 it was also quiet. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room. The location was lovely with a beautiful riverside walk for our dog. The room was very comfortable, however it would benefit from having a bedroom door to block out the noise from the corridor in the morning. The breakfast was ok but we found it difficult to find a clean plate and cutlery and table and the food was only just warm. June 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic staff and comfortable bed The staff were very friendly and eager to please. Our room was perfect and the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were an added bonus. Breakfast was delicious. Nice surroundings and good park for the children. June 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good overnight stay We stayed at the Holiday Inn Lancaster for 1 night in May as we were visiting friends in Morecambe. We had asked for a quiet room but they gave us one facing the road which is "not" quiet. We asked reception for a room facing the river which they relocated us to and it was very good. thankyou. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good. The room rate was very good on the advance purchase, no refund deal. We would recommend the hotel to other travellers. June 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, comfy, great pool but slow Service staff Clean, comfy, great pool but Poor Service staff in the restaurant, waited ages for food and even after calling the waiter over, he still said wait a minute and came over 10mins later, having said that, the hotel, the pool sauna, room comfort cleanliness etc were excellent. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by No bath robes ? :) We were booked into an Executive room and as per the norm for Holiday Inn hotels we expected to get the usual - water, choccy, and bath robes. "No sir, we don't have any bath robes in the hotel" was the answer when I asked. My wife couldnt turn the shower off - it was old and very stiff and needed ALOT of strength to turn the valve. She had to call reception for someone to come and turn it off for her - I was in the bar! :) Unfortunately the food wasn't up to the usual HI standard either - poor choice, poor quality. All in all, not a good experience and we wouldnt stay there again. Rate was very good but we'd rather pay more and have a better experience. PriorityClub Gold members. June 1, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing stay This is the second time we have stayed at this Holiday Inn but felt that there was a general air of deterioration since our last visit. Our room was fine but the beds were extremely hard and the pillows resembled slabs of concrete which ensured that we were only able to cat nap during the night and got up feeling very stiff and sore as well as very tired. Not a holiday experience. The menu in the restaurant was very limited and to our surprise on our second night we were told that our choice of Starter was not available even though we were one of the first in the restaurant. The same evening our main course arrived partly cooked and inedible which resulted in us expressing our displeasure to the Manager and left to find another venue. We were in fact unsuccessful. I feel that the main problem in the restaurant on our second evening was a large Conference Party from the firm TK Max. Unfortunately not enough thought had been given to the paying guests as the members of this party took over the restaurant and were very noisy and inconsiderate to the other users. Whilst your firm cannot be held responsible for the ill manners of their customers maybe consideration should be given to a second separate dining area for the non corporate guests. There is little doubt that we came second to the Conference crowd given the low standard of food and the time we had to wait for this. We were given a discount the following day as our complaints were recognised as genuine. May 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Could do better Rooms and location excellent, staff friendly and helpful but hotel let down by the following. 1. Restaurant - food overpriced and sevice poor. Cost of meals in the budget restaurant just over the road much cheaper and just as good, with much better service. I'm surprised that management is content to watch potential custom drift away like this. 2. WiFi charge. Why? This is 2013 and the hotel has the facility anyway so whay the need to charge. Even the local bus service has free WiFi as does the budget restaurant already mentioned. 3.In-room entertainment. Fancy TV, difficult to understand and lacking in basics such as Channels 4 and 5. (on the menu but don't work). Forget the gimmics and just give the full range of Freeview channels. May 23, 2013
