Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Payment & Front Desk When checking in we requested that we pay for the room partially with a MasterCard gift card. The desk folks were very helpful and verified that we had $45 remaining on the card, which matched our information. The desk clerk asked if she should cut our card for us, and we agreed. When we received our bill the next morning, only $39 was charged to the gift card. We inquired at the front derek and after checking were told that $39 was all the system would accept and there was nothing that could be done. We aren't so much concerned about the $6 we lost as the fact that we don't know why, since our knowledge of the card balance and the the evening clerk's online verification matched. So our question is "What happened to the missing $6?" Does IHG charge a fee for processing a gift card? If so we should have been told. If the proper amount didn't process there should have at least been a note on our bill that they encountered a problem with an apology. We expect there is a simple, valid explanation, but not knowing does raise a bit of a concern. November 8, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Over charged and poor breakfast selection The hotel did not honor the quote I received by making my reservation online. They said they were an independently owned facility and did not go by online quotes. The room was nice but the a/c unit was very noisey. during the night when it cycled it woke us up with the noise it made, The breakfast was mediocre. No orange juice; the machine was broke. No bananas or apples; only fresh fruit was valencia oranges. Eggs and sausage and sausage gravy were not hot; more like room temp. Definately not the best Holiday Inn Express I have stayed at. When in Topeka, KS I would look around for another place to stay. September 27, 2013

It is super clean with updated and modern decor and very comfy beds and pillows! The staff was unbelievably accommodating and friendly during our 2-night stay. Nothing was horrible -- well except maybe the exterior security door that wouldn't close and latch without a nudge. Or, maybe the room-to-room sound transmission issues that involved us in our neighbors' middle of the night conversation. One wonders if this was one of the rare HIE conversions from a building built for another, lesser brand. One also wonders how the HIE Brand Manager sees a unit like this fitting into its image and product consistency when compared with some of the excellent facilities we've stayed in over the past five years. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Personal Attention by manager We stayed the night of 19 Aug because of medical appointment early on 20 Aug. We did not know how long I would be in the hospital. The manager on duty the afternoon of 19 Aug suggested we extend our reservation un till 21 Aug, but offered a late check out on 20 Aug if this suited us. His consideration for my wife's comfort and removing the anxiety of re-checking if required was above and beyond what we expected. He made my pending procedure easier knowing my wife would have a place to stay a second night if required. When we return to Topeka for a hospital appointment, we will stay at the Holliday Inn on Wannamaker. Please seek him out and thank him for us. We did not do so at 6 p.m. on 20 Aug. August 23, 2013

Staff was excellant and room was clean,shower good(picky about water pressure) and bed comfortable. 2 firm and 2 soft pillows per bed, nice touch.Good breakfast with decent but not elaborate selection(hot pancakes,eggs,bacon,biscuits,cinnamon rolls) plus cold food. I take that back, that is pretty good for free breakfast. Coffee 24/7. Exercise equipment good(1 stationary bike,2 treadmills and exercise machine), exercise machine missing a part. Small pool as usual,did not use. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend August 10, 2013

The road noise was bad in my room all night. we went to get on the elevator and the cleaning people jump in front of us and filled the elevator with cleaning carts when we were waiting for a while in all my experiences you let the guest go first, we were there before they was waiting. Breakfast was not very much to choose from. Overall bad place to stay. There was hair all in bathroom too. August 8, 2013

The "CHOOSE A ROOM" advised us there would be a $25..00 cancellation charge. So we decided to let Holiday Inn Express make our plans and decided to stay rather than pay this ridiculous fee. The room charge was greater than what the hotel itself quoted us after we learned of this scenario. Would be nice if you reinstated the evening cookies. That was always a treat. Not sure we will ever use Holiday Inn Express after this episode. July 11, 2013

The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast area is less crowded than any other we visited. In addition, the breakfast staff did a great job keeping tables clean. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Needs some maintenance The treadmills and elliptical need to be replaced. One treadmill slips while running and the other one doesn't measure the right speed. Also, the hot tub does not work. The button has been broken for about 2 years. It appears that a $10 replacement switch would take care of the issue, but it remains an issue. You spent so much money on upgrading rooms, why not spend a little bit of money taking care of the other pieces you offer? July 2, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Nonsmoking - NOT I called the front desk after spending a couple hours in the room and told the person that the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. She gave me an ozone machine and said it would take care of it if I ran it for a bit. She called the room an hour later and asked if it worked. When I told her it didn't do anything to remove the smell, she asked me to bring it back to the front desk. She did not offer to move me to another room. I spent a sleepless night and left the next day with a raging headache. I felt like I had spent the night in a stale ashtray! When I mentioned it at the desk the next morning, I was told that they had changed all the furnishings when converting to nonsmoking a few weeks ago so somebody must have smoked in the room since then. She reduced my bill but that didn't get the night's sleep back for me or get rid of my headache. Someone would have had to spend prolonged days in there chain-smoking to make it smell so strongly of cigarette smoke. Even the pillows, mattress smelled. Ugh! June 15, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WONDERFUL experience here! Wasn't sure what to expect at this hotel, as I hadn't stayed in this part of town before. But this place knocked my socks off! Incredibly clean property. Close to I-70 and many good dining places. The staff was friendly and helpful. But most importantly, the entire building is either brand new, or completely renovated. I can't tell which; it looks brand new!! The design of the rooms is wonderful too. New, stylish, trendy fixtures in all areas of the room and the bathroom. Not the 'old Holiday Inn' style. This place looks extremely modern. I will stay there again next time I'm in Topeka. Really, really impressed with this place. Oh, and unlike other hotels, this one had the thermostat set at a comfortable temp in the low 70's when we walked in. Not the warm, stale, stuffy air that you sometimes get hit in the face with when you enter a hotel room. Nice touch. June 7, 2013
