Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Internet connection speed unacceptable I work on the internet in the evenings. The connection speed at the hotel is tooooo sloooooowww. Which makes completing my work difficult and tedious. I will need to check other hotels if this isn't corrected immediately. Other hotels have good connections and fast data streaming which is more beneficial for my evening work. June 14, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by poor service my family and I usually stay at this hotel when we travel to Lubbock. however this might be the last time. They were short handed and we paid the price. We could never get anybody to answer at the front desk. The room above us had kids that were out of control and we could not get anybody to settle them down. We didnt even have access to a microwave. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Location and polite desk staff is all this hotel has going for it. Graduation weekend. Reservations made June 2012. Elevators broken in our part of the hotel. We had reservations at other hotels but were not told of this inconvenience until we arrived and I had called earlier in the day to ask for early check in. I had my Mother, in a wheelchair and needed a suite. Given a smoking room. AWEFUL! Was told they had worked on it to make it ready for non smokers...they had not. Had no maid service the 3 days we were there. Took forever to get anything. After we arrived home, I get a call from my credit card and had been charged FOUR TIMES the amount that was suppose to be charged for our room. The only positive to this stay was the manager, did give us a small discount on our stay and some priority points. We have stayed at this hotel on and off for 7 years and had problems more times than not. Like I said before, the only thing they have going for them is they are close to Texas Tech campus which is why we put up with them. NO MORE. May 28, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing after many years of satisfied visits Upon check-in, was told that all suites were in tower w/o working elevator. Offered to change to reg room, but we had senior adult and college grad-not compatible schedules! After we hauled our luggage and selves up 4 flights of stairs (they did offer to help, but only one poor maintenance man for all), we left for graduation. When we returned, asked if any suites on lower floors had opened and were given one on 2nd floor. Moved luggage down only to realize that a/c didn't work in this room! Had to haul luggage and selves back to 4th floor. Tried to stay in-house for dinner and was told it would be 30-45 min. to get food as waitress was covering restaurant and bar (2 separate rooms)! We have stayed here for years and had no problems. New management? Bad coincidence? Definitely not enough staff. Rate was adjusted and that was appreciated but will probably change to another facility in the future. Also, needed a shuttle down the street to campus. Was told the shuttle only went to airport. Would have made up a little for other inconveniences if they would have found a way to accommodate a five min. ride. Staff were apologetic and polite. May 28, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Could have been better I had high hopes for this hotel, even though it was the only one with the number of rooms available for the Texas Tech graduation this past May that our family needed when we booked 9 months out, so they had us hostage in a sense. Not only did we book a block of rooms (9), we even had set up a catered event for one evening of our stay as a reception for our TTU graduate. We were spending quite a bit of money at this place so you'd think we would have been treated as such, right? No such luck. We had nothing but issues with the hotel. To start, check in was a disaster (our room block had nine rooms, each with a separate payee/family member staying in it, which we had sent ahead of time), but you would have thought we were asking the world to have each family member check in to his/her own room. I understand that they were busy, and came to find out later that the young man helping us, Donovan, was a new recruit who had barely any training on the hotel's system. Yet we got nothing but attitude from him, he managed to change our entire room block to my aunt's name, and each bill we received had her name and rewards points account on it as well. He gave everyone in my family the same attitude of doing us a favor, unless his manager was within earshot, when his demeanor would improve only slightly. Not the best first impression, especially after many of us had traveled thousands of miles by air to make it to Lubbock in the first place. We tried to use the business center next to the main desk. When I asked our favorite person behind the desk again, Donovan, why the printer/computer was not booted up and could I use it, I was told to "obviously just power it up" and everything should work fine. Great! Usually these things are set up to work, if they're down it is usually because there is an issue. I didn't realize it was only due to employee laziness at setting it up. Thanks! Next, the rooms. The basic maid service at this place was atrocious. At only 6 floors, you'd think the maid service would be routine and coordinated. Not so, my mom waited 2 hours for her room to be cleaned on a Friday. When asked why it would take so long, she was told by her maid that she was being called back to fix other rooms she had done previously to re-do her work and kept being interrupted. But even when serviced, the rooms were sub par. A thick layer of dust covered most surfaces, with just linens barely being touched. Two of our rooms in our block had water issues, with either pipes under the sink leaking into the main room or the toilet leaking into the entry area from the bathroom. It looked like they had water leakage issues in the main lobby as well, as fans were running on the carpets the entire weekend. Make no mistake, this hotel is very old and dated and it shows. Lastly, our event we had coordinated ahead of time as a graduation reception. The food was subpar. The staff was friendly enough, but we could have put together a better spread on our own by picking up snacks from the WalMart across the street. Chicken skewers were dry, fruit platter had fruit that wasn't even ripe yet on it and the sheet cake we ordered was stale. Not exactly the feel we were going for for our graduate's party, especially with a massive wet spot in the corner of the room we all had to avoid. We did meet one competent man, who worked the front desk on the night shift, as we were leaving. But he was the only one in the entire place. We have another in our family graduating from TTU next Spring and have already booked our room block elsewhere to avoid this pit. Beware! May 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, large room We had a great stay over graduation weekend. The room was facing the atrium and had easy access for my elderly parents. The room we had was a king and the room was very large. The bath is a little small but adequate for an overnight stay. We were concerned because of all of the bad reviews from others. We had none of the problems listed. The rooms were clean, smelled fresh and we really enjoyed the size. The staff was curteous and helpful. In terms of value, they were overpriced but that is due to graduation.. The normal price is fair for a room such as this. Make sure you ask for an inside room. I did see that some rooms face to the outside like a motel. Our room was not like that. I would stay here again. May 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hospitality at it's finest! Even though the elevator was broken, the front desk staff went above and beyond to take care of us. Also, everyone from the sales team to the restaurant service people were so friendly and hospitable to my family and I. We will definitely recommend this place to friends and family. Josh, John, Patrick, Sandy were just some of the people that made our experience memorable. Thanks for everything and we look forward to seeing you guys in the near future! May 24, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Rooms in Bad shape. I have been considering changing Hotel chains for a while now. I usually stay at this location, but have been increasingly concerned about the shape of the rooms. Low water pressure, hair left in the tub, flees or gnats flying arount the room, elevator out of operation, etc. May 22, 2013
