Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by alimom Staff needs some support
I stay in plenty of hotels across the country and support the major brands when possible.
I'll begin by stating I'm not perfect and I don't expect anyone else to be but if not for the location of the Downtown Memphis Holiday Inn (Beale St.# this property would be in trouble relying on service and cleanliness alone.
I ate dinner & breakfast in the restaurant. Both experiences were, VERY slow #waitress & kitchen#. Silver ware, having to ask for it #both times# was dirty. The bar surface #dinner# was dirty enough for me not to want to put my phone on it. I moved to a high-top table which was also dirty. Both servers were somewhat friendly but obviously poorly trained and not put in a position to succeed.
The bedding was clean but the shower head was not. The rest of the room was ok.
The décor on the eight floor is hideous #carpet, paint, wallpaper# but that’s just my opinion.
I can compliment two people whom I witnessed doing a really good job, wish I had recorded their names:
1. The woman who checked me in. She seemed to be in training. #Someone was behind her watching the process#
2. A waitress #who didn't wait on me at breakfast) was VERY observant of all tables.
I think the employees in this property need some leadership and training.

We liked the location, the lobby staff were very friendly and very helpful, the room was just fine with no problems. All the staff we met in the halls or elevators appeared happy and were friendly, which definitely extends a positive feeling to guests - so tell all the staff "thank you" for making our Memphis hotel visit fun.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DC60 Great location, older property needs a little upgrading
Very friendly and courteous staff. This is an older property in a great location, some items need upgrading (some area underway now)
Bathrooms are quite small by modern standards, but it is was clean. My room could be on the list for the upgrade, if not, it should be.

Way too expensive for what you got value for.
The staff at the front desk of the three days we were there was not helpful, did not even say hi, and looked generally bored.
Next time we will stay at Holliday Inn Midtown.

This property is in need of renovation: both the facility and the service need an overhaul.
- We had a broken mobile table in our room. We immediately asked to have it removed. Two days later it was still there, broken, and in our way.
- We had one robe for two people. Request for a second robe was not met.
- There were hairs from the last guest in the shower - yuck.
- Breakfast in the cafe was slow and poorly organized: some food came after others had finished eating, we had to steal cutlery from other tables when requests for same went unfulfilled.
- No full length mirror
- Physical property is tired: lampshades have turned yellow, draperies worn.
The only good thing about this property is the location.

Nice location. Was disappointed to see hair in bathtub before I used it. Had to do some personal cleaning. The tray that held the ice bucket and cuts was covered in dust.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by HenryS Lift noise
This is a very pleasant hotel in a great location and the checking in and out was relatively painless. Our room was good and opened out onto the pool. The Wi-Fi was very good and worked well in the room.
We had a room that backed onto the lift shaft and the noise of the lift going up and down was very intrusive, especially so when the hotel was quiet i.e. early morning/late night. We stayed 2 nights and obviously noticed it on the 1st night but as we had a very full 2nd day with an early start we didn't give the hotel a chance to put it right as we couldn't be bothered even thinking of moving when we got back in the evening.
The pool was drained and being repainted but there were no notices anywhere to let you know this. Again this wasn't a problem as the weather wasn't conducive to using it anyway.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Pensioners Disappointing basic hotel
On arrival we were not greeted or offered assistance with luggage. When asked for a trolley the receptionist was very offhand and ignored us. We had to prove that breakfast was included in our accommodation costs before they would give us vouchers. With a notice about safety in the room we attempted to get a safety deposit box at the reception (as per notice in the room) and was told abruptly, "full up". No explanation as to when we could be accommodated with a safe. When we attempted to get some milk again it was all we could do to get an answer from the bell captain who was busy playing a book puzzle. We never got our milk. The young lady in the restaurant was rushed off her feet. she appeared to be the bar manager, maitre D and waitress all in one. she was very pleasant.Thank Goodness Graceland came up to our expectations, however Elvis had left the building. We also had a marvelous meal in the Peabody Hotel, opposite. Would not recommend this hotel.

Hotel is in need of upgrading. A little overpriced because of this but ended up as the guest of the day & received the executive suite with free breakfast which took the edge off a little. Location is great about 2 blocks to Beale St. Front desk staff very friendly & helpful. Although obviously dated, very comfortable & clean. Had a great stay!

Visited Memphis over St. Patrick's Day and had a blast! The hotel is directly across from the world famous Peabody at a fraction of the price . The rooms were very nice and the staff was somewhat helpful, a particular maid was very helpful on directions etc...the front desk, not so knowledgeable on directions etc. The bar was great along with the bartenders and the breakfast was a pretty good deal.
Would definitely stay there again!!!

Have had billing mistakes on last 3 out of 5 visits. I mentioned it on my last made reservations and still wrong. Either my cohort or myself gets double billed! Elevators has had problems on every visit! It took us 20 minutes to get on elevator...and then stopped at every floor! Just barely made our appointment. Man!!!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ALS76 Good Location, Ok Hotel
The front desk staff is on the verge of rude, unhelpful and Incompetent. The rooms are ok, but the bathrooms are dated and tiny (Max 1 person). I can understand the price with the hotel being in downtown however I have stayed at this location twice and neither time was I impressed by the staff nor the hotel its self.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LadyComic Dated Hotel But Worth the Price
Compared to other hotels in the area, the Holiday Inn is a good buy. The room was OK but the elevators were being services. As a result, it took a long time to get to the seventh floor and the parking garage. Still, I would stay there again.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Leslie65 Poor service
The checking in process at this hotel is stressful. One person working even on weekends. There is a 15.00 fee for parking. Driver not available to transport guests. Our room was somewhat run down. Our mattress was busted and if you sat down on the end of the bed it made the top of the bed pop up. Management didnt seemed concerned about the problems. The one redeeming feature is that its within walking distance to Beale Street.

We came to Memphis for the Blues Challenge and this hotel was just what we needed/wanted. the beds and pillows are very comfortable and the staff is friendly and efficient. It is a close walk to Beale St and many restaurants. The coffee in the lobby is delicious and on a cold day they had hot cider in a carafe also.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Eugenetrekker Perfect choice
This was the most comfortable bed of any hotel I have ever stayed in. I loved the cotton feel of the duvet and, after spending the previous night in a motel with pillows so hard I woke with a a stiff neck, I really appreciated the choice of pillows offered here.
Staff was friendly, efficient, helpful. Couldn't ask for more.
As tourists for one night in Memphis the location was just what we were looking for and at a better price than other lodging in the area.
It isn't a new hotel and that shows up here and there, but really wasn't an issue.

We had a late check-out time of 2:00 pm...housekeeping started knocking on our door at 9:00 am for a total of 4 times. Normal check-out is 11:00 am, so didn't make sense for them to be knocking so early. The only negative of our stay, unfortunately, a big one,.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ISUfan Overpriced, but nice
I was in Memphis for the Liberty Bowl. I selected this location because I wanted to be close to Beale St.. It meet that requirement. But...
- the garage was semi-attached, but the elevator was not working.
- the decor was outdated in need of updating.
- th paint was worn/scratched i places.
- the hallways were extremely hot.
This was a "nice" hotel, but not what I would expect from the brand. Very overpriced, but not a lot of selection in the area.

We were there for the Liberty Bowl and the Beale St "experience". Easy walking dist to Beale. Felt very safe with the security hired for New Year's Eve. It would have been nice if we could have gotten our room # and key before we went to the festivities so that on return we could go directly to the3 room and not have to "check in".

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Treesa30 Bad service and dirty room
I just stayed here with my family for our time in Memphis during the Liberty Bowl. First, we arrived at 2:15pm, the front staff informed me that the room was not ready and that check in was not until 4pm. We had parked on the 3rd floor of their parking garage and the elevators did not work to the lobby so we(me and 3 kids under7 and my husband) had to walk down 3 floors only to be told we could not check in. The service staff said they could lock our baggage up in their closet until we checked in. So we came back at 4pm Nd checked in, yet the individual who had the key to the closet was not there and was not to come back for 20mins. We waited and waited. We finally got in and I was hungry about 8pm so we head downstairs to the restaurant. And it was full, I decided to use the room service, but I called room service 3x, no answer, so I called main operated who told me they only had one person working and one cook and they were not doing room service that night. I've always known Holiday Inn to be remarkable but this was one of the worst experiences . I have photos of my room showing someone's hair in the tub still and a bed with no bed skirt that I can share. I don't recommend this hotel.
