Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Great room and breakfast. but the pool.....
we love the Holiday Inn Mtl downtown. We go there when we need to stay in Mtl. The only thing I find disturbing is the pool and hot tub. They are not ( or do not seem) to be as clean as expected.... Both had a disturbing smell... I refused to let my granddaughter in, felt.... unclean and as many people use them.... I just walked away. Was disappointed, when in Mtl I always invite my granddaughter to stay with us, quality time is of the essence. She loved the breakfast and the fish but had I known that the pool area would have this aspect, I would of never told her about it....

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Geophile Great locaion & staff, nice hotel. Would return!
You can get anywhere in Montreal from here. The hotel is across the street & 1/2 block down to Place D'Armes Metro station inside the convention center with all it's daytime food shops. Also, the hotel is across from & directly walkable into Old Montreal and all it's shops, and restaurants/nightlife for the young, wealthy & beautiful. And, the hotel is right on the edge of Chinatown, so great Asian restaurants & shops are on your block and just beyond. From here, we walked further to the late night nightlife of pubs & food in the Ville Marie neighborhood St. Catherine's East & the Latin Quarter, and separately, we took the Metro to the Women's World Cup at the Olympic Stadium, as well as McGill, Berri-UQAM, St. Laurent, & Place-des-Artes stations to check out the huge restaurant & pub scene on St. Denis & St. Laurent Streets above Sherbrooke. This helped us break out of other cool areas which we had previously visited such as Crescent St restaurants.
So, yeah, about the hotel; the staff was great, at least for the most part. They were very helpful on advising on area sights & getting around, even when trying to be sensitive to busy/peak times at the front desk & reception, the women at the front desk were great.
Lobby is peaceful & beautiful with pond & walkway. Breakfast buffet was very good overall, and while pastries were mediocre the fresh fruits, eggs, noodles & all other stuff were fresh & good. Very efficient staff, though sad to see that almost nobody tipped these guys even on their comp Petit Dejeuner breakfasts. C'mon, people#. However, regarding the hotel bar, I would NOT recommend getting a drink here. AVOID the hotel bar unless you want to pay very high prices for shelf-quality cocktails; the only bourbon they had was Jim Beam,a medium-lower shelf bourbon, and they charged $20 CDN for a double. Really. That's insane. I questioned the bartender on this, asking if it was accurate, and he confirmed & defended the pricing. Out-stinkin'-rageous pricing for poor choices & shelf-quality bourbon.
Lobby was beautiful with pond & walkways. Rooms were clean & bedding very comfortable. We'd easily stay here again & look forward to returning to Montreal & this hotel.
