Nice location downtown with ample parking. I was given discount coupon for dinner and a free breakfast for the manager's special that night. Everything was standard as you would expect but the free cooked to order breakfast the next morning was excellent. A much welcomed change from the continental breakfast at the Express brand or the buffet style you usually see.
Pool was located on the second floor and was closed the night I was there.

i stayed at holiday inn Muskegon couple of times and everytime they met and exceeded my expectaions.
during my last stay i faced some car issues, manager "Gamal" directed maintenance to assist me and front desk made some phone calls to local service shops to make sure i'm taking care off they even offered to take me to my meeting.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nan54 Uncomfortable bed but great maintenance service
The bed I has was the double box spring type and you could feel the part where the two box springs came together and made for a restless night and sore back when I got up. I think if they at least add the foam mattress toppers to those beds it might help make it more comfortable.
Other than that maintenance man Randy was a great help at fixing the shade and window to make me feel more secure. He was a great help and was always friendly. The desk girls were very polite and helpful.

The heat in my room would not function properly. It would run for about 30 - 45 seconds and then quit. The only way to get this to reset was to turn the unit off completely and then it would do the same thing again. I explained the issue to the front desk two days in a row and they never got it corrected. I finally packed my things and told the desk clerk I either needed another room or another hotel... It was their choice. I received another room on another floor, but then couldn't do any work because of the poor quality of the wireless internet there.
I also was told there were no rooms available at the corporate rate of the company I was consulting with during my stay. The company called and this was corrected. Almost. Instead of giving me the proper rate for all three days, they only applied this to the last day.
The computers/internet in the business center are pathetic. They won't even pull up basic sites such as Delta airlines.
This is a very nice property for an older hotel in a downtown area. I's a shame the staff doesn't give proper care to the clients who stay there.

The staff were knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very good and cheap. The room was nicely furnished all the appliances worked and I had a fast internet connection. To add to this the pool and jacuzzi were very nice and the fitness room was wonderful. Overall it was a great stay!

I brought my son and boyfriend to Holiday Inn for the day to use the pool and have some lunch. I know there have been losts of previous problems with the Pool area, but we found the accomodations to be very clean and nice. The pool was really warm too, and my son loved it. We found out later that the hotel has gotten some new maintenance staff, and you can really tell they are working hard at bringing the property to a better level

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MIvisitor The lobby and restaraunt are nice.
After you walk in past the nice resteraunt/bar and lobby, you get on the elevator to your room and are immediately transported back in time. When entering the room, the heating unit has a dial on it (from the 80's) and they rattle with semi-hot air all night. The beds were o.k., but wallplates were hanging off the walls, which had marks all over them. The bathrooms were dirty, and the hot water was inconsistent at best. By the time my stay was almost over, I had no hot water. When I was told to change rooms, each room was worse then the first. I immediately checked out, and would never go back. The staff was very appologetic, but it wasn't their fault that ownership had no interest in upkeep at this property.

We live near to Muskegon and decided to use points to stay downtown as we were going to a New Years eve party nearby.
Check in, given it was New Year's eve, was a slow process even through the property had two people at the front desk. There appeared to be a New Year's eve party scheduled in the evening so perhaps the longer than normal check line was the result of the pending party.
I typically stay at Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Expresses for the majority of my business travels. I believe I stayed over 60 nights at Holiday Inn during 2012.
When I made my reservation on line, I specifically asked for a room away from the elevator. Upon check in and going to our room, I found that the room was right next to the elevator. Fortunately the staff was able to change our room further away from the elevator.
The rooms are fair at best; This is an older property of which appears to not have been updated to the more current Holiday Inn theme. I don't believe that I would choose to stay at this property given the room type that we had during this stay.

First, I travel every week and stay at Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Expresses almost exclusively. 95% of them are very good and I recommend them to friends and co-workers. This one stood out as the worst Holiday Inn I've stayed at.
I got to the hotel late. Check-in was fast and the girl behind the counter was very professional and pleasant.
This hotel has not been renovated in many, many years. It feels like a cheap motel when you walk into your room. One of the first things I noticed was a broken lamp on one of the bedstands.
I had some work to do, so the first thing I did was get my computer setup. There were no outlets anywhere near the work desk. About 8 feet away was a single outlet that was free. Luckily I carry and extension cord with me.
The second thing I noticed grossed me out for the rest of the night. On the chair at the work desk was tons of stains, including a white, crusty stain at the front of it. Yes, crusty. It was making me sick, so I called the front desk to get a new chair. The one they brought to my room was WORSE. I told them to get both chairs away from my room. Some of the other furniture in the room also had disgusting stains on it.
The A/C unit was OLD. It had a thermostat dial like any other A/C, but there was no way to adjust it between COLD and SUPER HOT. I played with it throughout the night, but finally settled on being cold.
One of my pet peeves is when a hotel does not provide a channel guide for the TV. This hotel does not. And half the channels on the TV don't work.
The internet speed was decent.
The bed's mattress was uncomfortable and obviously a few years (or decades) beyond it's useful life. My back hurt when I woke up and the rest of the day.
In the morning I iron my clothes for the day. The iron was nice enough to deposit tons of white stuff on my dark pants. Again, probably a few years past it's useful life.
I've had enough bad experiences at Holiday In restaurants that I avoid them except for getting coffee. The coffee at this one was horrible. Barely drinkable. And in case you are considering staying here and having breakfast, when I walked by at 7AM the restaurant was still not open.
If it wasn't so late and if there was another IHG hotel nearby I would have left and not stayed at this hotel, but there isn't much to choose from in this area. Good luck if you decide to stay here.

We were there for our wedding night and couldn't have been happier with the room. The bed was so comfortable. Lots of amneties, they even provided wine glasses because we had forgotten ours. We also got a free dine-in breakfast, not the usual bagel and juice! The only drawback was the hotel bar closed early at 10 pm that night.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Bpat123 Great hotel, terrible parking
Room was clean, beds were great, pool was wonderful. We could. Not understand why the hot tub was only half full of water . The pool area was clean and all of the workout equipment in perfect shape. The parking was horrible both nights we stayed, all of the spaces were taken up by people going to the ice rink next door. We had to park three blocks from the hotel and get our car after midnight when the lot cleared out. Breakfast buffet was great. We wanted to eat dinner at the hotel but we were told that because of an event we could not be seated before seven and the menu would be very limited. We were also told at the front desk that we could not qualify for the "kids eat free" benefit because we had used the AAA discount on our room. We would not stay again just because the parking was so impossible.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by 1Mollythedog Thanksgiving stay in Muskegon
Overall, the stay was ok. The room was very nice; however, the heating system in our room was not working properly. It was too cool without adjusting the temperature; but if you adjusted it, it got way too hot (89 degrees). Shower was good and supplies were adequate, but there was a water stain from the floor above in the shower area. Did not like the fact I could get 24 hour coffee/tea/hot chocolate, nor did I enjoy the breakfast buffet. The food choices were good, but the food seemed cold. We would have preferred an option to either a continental breakfast (preferred) or the option of ordering a breakfast meal off the menu. Staff was wonderful and friendly, especially the server in the breakfast area. She was wonderful and friendly!! For the value, ok.
A few big negatives: the hot tub was not full of water, the pool needed upgrading and there was "whistling" coming through the pool area due to the wind. Also, the underground parking area was TOO DARK. Lighting was minimal, at best and even though it was cold and snowy, we elected to park on the top deck.
We would stay again if all items above were addressed. If you needed something just to rest your head, it would be just OK.

I was recently in town for my sister Shannon's wedding. The checkin was great, although I forgot her name, she was efficient and friendly. Mark stands out, as he was very accomodating to my sister to ensure she had everything she needed. The restaurant attendants and the lounge attendants were awesome! Very accomodating and flexible with our total family needs. Each attendant had a positive and upbeat attitude. The room was clean, however there were a number of work orders to be completed. 805, the plug by the desk was out of the wall. 817, the phone was OOO, we called numerous times, the phone would ring, on my end, but never in the room. 730, the drape "awning" was coming off the wall. Having been a past hotelier, I understand its importatant to hear the good with the "what should be improved" comments.
Overall, the stay was very enjoyable and I heard little to no complaints from the rest of the party. A special thank you to the housekeeper that worked the high 7th floor on sat the 6th. Shannon was alone and when the hskpr knocked on the door, she was almost in tears, the hskpr was quick to brighten her day by asking about details and agreed to taking the time to see her dress. Her simple excitement and hug, truly made Shanon's day! Later, when we were getting ready, the hskpr returned to say good luck and to verify that her makeup and hair looked amazing. Shannon truly felt like a princess and a priority guest! Thank you for making her stay memorable.
