Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Return to Holiday Inn after staying elsewhere in Newport We were favourably surprised during our stay at the Holiday Inn in Newport, Gwent. Greeted by a friendly receptionist, rooms were excellent, spacious, well maintained and good facilities including a fridge. Ice machine down the corridor was a bonus. Compared to other hotels just around the corner the swimming pool was small, but often we had it to ourselves. Good range of drinks available including local beer, but restaurant service on the second evening of our stay was poor compared to the first night - different staff, different attitude! Good deal with kids eating free. The Hotel is obviously well managed (manager seen around a lot of the time). The majority of staff were excellent (especially those in the restaurant at breakfast) and we will certainly be staying with you again at some time in the future. November 3, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not as good as 5 days earlier. The radiator was not working or the phone. Stayed in the same room 5 nights earlier and the rad. was fine. Reception desk kindly brought an electric fire. The rad. should have been checked prior to my arrival. Food very good. Beef excellent. Avoid the large bottled water, it is tap water and IMHO should not be sold. Could hear next doors television into the early hours. October 31, 2014

My only gripe is the price of the breakfast £11.00 to £13.00 per person I think is a bit steep when you can go down the road to the harvester and pay £3.99 .Overall nice, clean and nice staff October 29, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ready for a refresh Pleasant grounds, a comfortable quiet room, but overall feeling rather tired and dated. Some members of staff tried hard, and were friendly and helpful, others were less so. Dinner is Harpers Restaurant was better than expected, although the decor was akin to an upmarket motorway service station, but the food at breakfast was poor. Our room was quiet, and the bed comfortable, and everything worked, although the room looked like it was ready for refurbishment. Overall, it was good value, and easily accessible. October 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable Room. Room and bed were very comfortable. Very impressed that smoking rooms were available and that the room also had a fridge. Room was clean, however I did find quite a few hairs in the bath that I had to clean out before having a bath. The TV could do with a better picture and a lot more available channels. Other than that, I very much enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again. October 28, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bridge that Gap We stayed at the hotel on the 9th and 10th of October and again on the night of the 13th of October. Dinner in the restaurant on the evening of the 9th proved a disappointment. The vegetables were not served hot and although the service was friendly it was not efficient. The room was a bit jaded and the beds were not comfortable. On the 13th of October we did not use the restaurant for dinner but the bedroom was better and the beds were much more comfortable. This time, there was much more professionalism about the service though the attitudes thankfully, were still friendly. The reception staff were helpful and professional on each occasion October 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Real Customer Service We arrived from Mid Wales and had a personal issue which for us could have reuined our stay. The staff very quickly helped us to resolve this. Wonderful staff well done, as a result we were all totally relaxed. I was more than happy with the stay. We used the pool, nice temperature and a good treat from for the children. The bedrooms were comfortable and clean, we had interconnecting rooms; what a joy!. Breakfast was lovely and a good choice. I would recommend this hotel. We will stay her again. October 21, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Stay for cycling training at velodrome This motel was entirely satisfactory for my 5-day stay while I was participating in bicycle training sessions at the Newport velodrome. The room was large, pleasant and easily accessible. Desk staff and staff in the restaurant were consistently friendly and helpful. The breakfast and dinner buffet style service offered good choices. There was a serious problem with the wifi service and the staff provided an effective work-around for that. October 4, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by good location just off M4 on edge of Newport. Rather tired in appearence, on the outside, and indeed this impression was confirmed indoors as well. In need of some TLC to rectify carpets with holes and ill hung curtains in bedroom. No traffic noise in bedroom at back of hotel: would thoes at the front be as quiet? Attentive, helpful waiting staff at meal times, but even they could not make up for bland dishes at dinner with overcooked vegetables. Breakfast was the best meal we had. The self service system was not the easiest for guests with mobility problems to cope with at mealtimes October 3, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Stay Ever I have stayed at intercontinental hotel in London, stayed at crown plaza and was so disappointed to a point where I wanted to cancel my cards with them and move to another hotel. But the stay at the holiday inn in Newport restored my faith in that there are good people and good hotels out there. We couldnt thank the staff enough for the great service provided for going beyond there call of duties to ensure we were comfortable. We were made to feel spectacular and will most definitely be returning to this hotel the staff were very friendly and always there to listen and advise. It was our sons first birthday, they also baked him a cake making it the most amazing experience ever Thank you for everything Holiday Inn Newport September 26, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Good Location Being positive the hotel is well located adjacent to Motorway junction and is a campus style which is surprisingly quiet. The staff were pleasant and helpful However, you have to access the hotel through a smokers area which is an unpleasant start to your stay. The hotel is very 70's/80's and the unrefurbished bedrooms are very dated. Room had a very dated bathroom and furniture showing evidence of damp. There was also very limited electrical sockets which in current day is poor. Some significant investment is required or strategic thought adopted on how this hotel is positioned in the future. The only thing is this hotel is becoming 'tired' particularly in the public areas of the restaurant,bar and reception and looks ready for refurbishment. As always with hotels its a continuous process to redecorate! but generally a good place to stay when travelling. September 21, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent staff This was a great hotel for one night with two problems you could easily avoid: 1. The food in the restaurant isn't great. To be fair, it's not trying to be a fancy restaurant. If you want simple food of an ok quality you'll be fine. Otherwise go find somewhere else. 2. Our air-conditioner in the room was broken meaning our room was ridiculously hot. To be fair to the hotel, we probably could have called reception and they'd have come and fixed it, but it was late by the time we discovered the problem. But - those problems aside, everything esle about the hotel is just great. The staff in particular were excellent. September 17, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Welsh Break Booked the hotel through the IHG website with a great offer on for the evening. Stopping one night it allowed us to catch up with family over two days. The car park had plenty of space, the check in and bed room were excellent but let down by poor décor in the lounge/bar area. It looks out of date and in need of redecoration and a spruce up. If you are looking for a stop over on the way into or out of Wales, this spot is ideal. September 3, 2014
