I am an IHG rewards member, I have never had a bad experience before my stay at the Charleston Holiday Inn.
First of all, I my stay at this location was not planned. Due to Delta airline over booking I ended up there.
The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. However the room appeared to have been occupied.
Initially walking into the room I notices an empty bowl and spoon along with an empty small cereal box.
I placed the bowl and spoon along with the empty box outside the door, thinking maybe housekeeping forgot to police it up.
I was very exhausted so I quickly went to sleep. When I woke up at 3am to prepare to catch my flight I notice an empty coffee cup on the desk and what appeared be a well read newspaper.
I did not have time to speak with the desk agent in fear of missing my flight

We enjoyed or stay at the hotel. We were visiting family in the area and went to the in-water boat show.

Will never go back to this hotel. When I checked in @ 9:00 PM there wasn't a remote control in the room. I called the front desk and the girl said she would have to call me back. She called 30 minutes later and told me I would have to come down to the desk for it since there wasn't anyone there to send up to my room. The very next morning I noticed there wasn't any regular coffee in the room. I also noticed the tissue box was empty and the alarm clock was unplugged. The coffee was never replenished and the tissue box was never replaced for the duration of my stay (10 nights). I would have checked out the second day but my employer had a meeting room reserved at this hotel for the next 10 days and was there as part of that group.

very good hotel overall. easy to reserve, service is friendly, room is clean, the only thing is air condition is a little noisy.

The room was very nice and everything was very clean. The location was great for the business seminar that I attended.

Staff was friendly. Rooms were clean and comfortable. However being a platinum I was not given the option of a welcome snack or extra points when I checked in. I asked about this when I was checking out and the staff membered smiled and gave me the extra points. It made me feel like they were trying to avoid offering this benefit.

I'm a retired salesman that traveled most of the U.S. for 40 years. When it comes to hotels, high-end or low-end, I know what's clean, reasonably clean, and just down-right dirty, especially at Holiday Inn properties where I stayed more than any other hotel in my lifetime.
The room I rented in this hotel was just down-right dirty. I'm talking about dirty from months/years of staff just barely hitting the surfaces, changing the linens and maybe vacuuming the carpet before the next guest.
This kind of dirt and neglect is not isolated in a single room or just a few rooms in any hotel. So I'm sure all the rooms in this hotel have this condition in varying degrees.
It's a shame because the other customer aspects of this property at least appeared to be good.
