Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by IHG Platinum Members look out! I would like to echo the experience of the guest below (Tris1971). I have been a Platinum member for many years and spend a considerable amount of time in IHG hotels. The membership benefits have slowly diminished over the years coupled with the fact it has become much harder to maintain Platinum status. The ONLY real benefit for Platinum members is a free room upgrade at check in (if available). Alas, I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and was allocated a standard room. I called the Duty Manager from my room to ask for a room upgrade. I was swiftly told that there was no Executive rooms available as they were ALL being refurbished - and that was that. I was a little surprised to hear this as I could see the hotel was still selling Executive and Deluxe rooms via the website. My bedroom was comfortable enough. However, the bathroom was 'tired' with chipped floor tiles and very old grout around the bath. On a positive note, the breakfast was excellent and the parking is plentiful. Given that I am the second Platinum guest to report the same issue in recent days, I sincerely hope that the General Manager will take the time to reflect. January 16, 2014

Were given a menu In restaurant for gluten free diet but after we ordered were told that menu was nkt available. We had written to the hotel advising them of our dietary requirements but they did not seem to be prepared. Very poor value for money in the restaurant. January 12, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not a great experience... I stay at IHG properties in the city of Norwich quite often, and this hotel appeared to offer a very good price for the night in question. I made my room reservation on IHG.com and within a couple of days of the reservation I noted that the room type had been upgraded to an Executive Room, reflecting my membership status and loyalty to IHG. I arrived around 23:00hrs after a family party, and was greeted by a gentleman at reception. I offered up my reservation information, and my booking was located. I was handed my key, and then the gentleman went into what appeared to be a very poor rehearsed script about my membership status offering complimentary wifi, and that if it did not work, just to charge it to my room and the charge would be cancelled in the morning. Each sentence started with "As a platinum member...." almost to the point that even he was quite embarrassed about the number of times he appeared to have to say it. As a platinum member I was offered 500 IHG rewards points, or a complimentary drink at the bar.... oops, that is now closed, so the points it is then! We went to our room, only to discover that the room provided was a Standard Room. There was no complimentary water, no biscuits on the tea tray, no robes and no enhanced toiletries. The mini-bar was an empty iced-up fridge. All of which I had expected, as my expectation had been raised prior to arrival by the room pre-allocation that had happened in advance of our arrival! The room (132 I recall) was a considerable walk from reception, at the rear of the building on the lower ground floor, so I did not want to hike back to reception to go through "As a platinum member" again. Clearly "As a platinum member didn't nudge the guy checking me in to upgrade the room". It was late, We went to bed. The mattress was like sleeping on a trampoline. It was so springy that when my partner turned over, I bounced into the air and visa-versa! Not a good nights sleep. We left quite early on the Sunday morning, and when checking out, I was not asked how my stay was. Just a "Thank you" when I said I'm checking out and handed my key across the desk. I have stayed in the other 3 IHG properties in Norwich and can recommend all of them. This one however, just doesn't cut the mustard. I would imagine, only for it having a pool/leisure club, is the reason it is not a Holiday Inn Express. I was very disappointed, the only saving grace was that the cost of the room had been reasonable for the level of service and type of room that I received. January 10, 2014

We are regular visitors, however when checking in, was not advised that would have to have key re-energised for the 2nd night. Was a little embarrassing to find locked out of our room on 2nd afternoon and have to explain the situation to a member of staff who happened upon us along the corridor. He stated we would have to go to reception, which we did and were advised that we should have been told the situation on arrival day 1. Problem caused by using club points for 2nd night. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New Years Eve Hi my names Glyn over the last 4 or 5 years me my wife Kerry & our good friends Dave & Sheila have spent time together over the new year , usually we go by coach to a hotel but you are limited to what & when you do whatever you want to do with your day.This year we thought we'ed do it differently we chose Norwich then we found The Holiday Inn with a new years party so we booked it through a very charming lady Charlotte Leeming,,we arrived & were given a very warm welcome,that evening we had a great time, food was great the disco went down well , next morning after breakfast we spent time in the pool & hot tub , then spent time walking around Norwich, we stayed that night & came home the following morning all in all we had a great time, we will be visiting another Holiday inn this year in a different area & if its as good as Norwich we will be more than happy,, no more coaches ,,, Glyn Attridge & happy bunch January 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent hotel, loved it. Due to a short notice family emergency found ourself needing accommodation in the Norwich area the day before New Years' eve. Luckily we found the Holiday Inn, Ipswich Road Norwich. Three course meal for three (myself, wife & 5yr old son) and one nights stay (including use of the pool & jacuzzi the following morning) for less than ninety pounds? Absolute bargain. Only one problem, the hotel "held" the £XX from my account until payment, I settled the bill in the morning with extras from the bar but now it seems that the £XX is still in limbo, the final fee has been taken but the bank reckon that there is a mystery £XX that has neither been claimed nor released. I will not hold this against the excellent time that we had and I'm sure that this will be sorted in due course. January 3, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unfriendly Manager We stayed in an executive room for three nights, every morning we woke up 5 o'clock as the utility room was above our room, was used by the restaurant staff, but just about 7am the house kipping office and the utility room which both was above us, is been used again by the house keeping staff pushing their trolleys above and talking , we had no rest at all. Once we made a complain to the reception they offered a room which was not executive and facing the road which was noisy as we could not see these rooms better we stayed in the same room, and we complained to the Hotel manager as she emailed back saying the rooms above us was only used from 9am-6pm which was not true and all we got instate an apology she was saying that if we are thinking about a refund we will not get it, which we did not ask for a refund. If I had to stay in Norwich I will not stay in Holiday Inn instate I will use Premier Inn will be much better. January 2, 2014

Hotel is excellent value for money and the rooms are large and clean. This hotel is made by the friendly staff. The welcome at reception was excellent; a smiling face is a happy and friendly face which gets everything off to a fine start, so well done and a Big Thank You to Chloe, the Duty Manager. The building is well maintained, clean and spacious. The gym is exceptionally large with plenty of equipment so no waiting around while exercising. Bedrooms are well equipped with comfortable beds and noise free, evening though the hotel appeared busy with clients. The restaurant both for evening meal and breakfast is well serviced with friendly staff again in a spacious and clutter free environment. A very positive experience and most definitely the preferred choice when visiting the area again. December 23, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Too hot! On a mild early-November evening the heating was on full blast and the room was stifling when we entered it after checking in. We had to turn the heating down to zero AND open the window. Next morning the corridors and the dining area were all excessively hot. The hotel has some nerve, asking guests to think of the environment and save energy by not putting towels in for daily laundry, while wasting heaven knows how much energy by over-heating the premises. Also, the room had not been properly cleaned after the last occupant left. Only two teabags were provided for an overnight stay by two people and not a single biscuit. November 16, 2013

One small criticism, a bigger towel rail would have been appreciated! We had a twin bed room as requested and the beds were very comfortable. We were in a very quiet corridor, on the lower floor so minimal noise. Looking forward to returning for Christmas. November 15, 2013

Lovely breakfast, although would be nice to have vegetarian sausages. Pool and gym was lovely as well. It was great to be able to join in fully with the celebrations knowing the bedroom was only a short walk away at the end of the night. The room was very comfortable and also quiet as the bedrooms are separate from the bar and function room area. Bed and bathroom were all one would expect. November 8, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed, very quiet room and good service Just two minor issues with room 302; the hinge at the top of the bathroom door was loose, requiring the door to be lifted at the handle to close it properly. Unfortunately, if the door was closed too quickly, the cap over the extraction system flew across the bathroom. There was no nut to retain it. However, we liked the room so much that we would like to stay in the same room again. October 25, 2013
