Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kim99 another good stay
Have stayed in this holiday Inn several times as we stay here when visiting out daughter. The rooms are always clean and well maintained. We took our son this time and had a family room it was huge, we could have slept 6 of us in there and still had room to run around. The only problem I have with this hotel is the tiny parking spaces in the hotel car park I have an estate car and find it difficult to get in we have found that if you arrive late afternoon and park on one of the metres near the front of the hotel, you can park until 10am and even longer if you pay more as your hours paid for roll over to the morning (its free overnight). Would recommend to anyone staying in Plymouth as good value and close to city centre. We often go to the theatre which is within easy walking distance.

We usually chose to stay at the Plymouth Holiday Inn when in the area visiting family as it is in a very convenient position, both for walks around the Hoe and Barbican, and also for the great shopping centre. The hotel itself is very family friendly, especially in the restaurant, and the bedrooms are large which is useful when using a pushchair. The views from the hotel are also a bonus. The only problem we found was with the underground car park which was built when cars were a little smaller. Next time, we will probably use the overflow car park outside (if not raining!).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Jeremy1 Fantastic location
The location of the Holiday Inn is brilliant. The dining room has a wonderful view and the room itself was a good size. However, the bathroom was rather tatty and in need of attention (towel rail wobbly) and very small. There were 3 of us staying in the room and we had to ask for more towels as they had only left enough for 2 people.
Despite the pillows being labelled 'soft' and 'firm' there was no discernable difference between them and they were all very hard which led to a very uncomfortable night. Our room was situated near the lifts on the same floor as the Fitness Suite which looked v impressive and great pool. We were woken v early by a crowd of people talking extremely loudly just outside our door by the sofas.
Word of warning - my daughter's car was damaged in the car park. #No sign of CCTV# The staff were not particularly helpful and would not give us a copy of the hotel's Insurance Policy - and, of course, the police weren't interested as it was not an emergency.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by mayo Noisy Room!
The hotel is dated and needs a re-furb, We had a full refund as the room we were allocated was next to the lift shaft. The lifts are really noisy when using them, they are in a despatate need of an overhaul. Imagine being in a room next to them all night, they even made the clothes hangers vibrate as they went up and down. After complaining to the duty manager we were given a full refund. The duty manager is aware of this problem as she stated that some customers sleep through the noise! and some complain. Thats alot of use when you have spent a night awake.
Would not stay their again.

We have stayed at this hotel twice before and enjoyed it very much.
Requested a quiet room away from the lifts, usual preference. What room were we allocated, one next to the lfts which turned out to be very noisy.
Did we complain, no we are british!
Bathroom so small the cat couldn't fit in it.
Conclusion - this was an exective high quality room, so what do you think. Not to be recommended on this experience.

Three nights stay in November. This was our 2nd stay at this one of our favourite Holiday Inns. We can't fault anything - except maybe the thickness of the carpet areas which are quite hard to push on if you are in a wheelchair!
Staff are very friendly & always willing to help.
Views are spectacular from the Penthouse Restaurant on the top floor.
Location is excellent - turn left for a bracing sea breeze on Plymouth Hoe or turn right for plenty of retail therapy!
Can't wait for next opportunity to stay here.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Cornishman Holiday Inn, Plymouth
We have stayed at this hotel several times as it is very convenient for theatre visits and also has secure parking. We were a little concerned on this visit because it seemed that things were not quite as they had been. We had a warm welcome from Reception and were offered help to to our room, and this warmth was reflected in the attitude of the staff throughout our stay. They could not have been more helpful, but our room, although perfectly clean, was lacking in several respects: there was no bedside lamp, for example. The lamp on the desk was lacking a bulb. Both these defects were speedily remedied, but then we found one of our bath towels was worn so thin that we could see through it and the bedding also was worn and tired - this in an "executive room".
Because of a wedding taking place we were not able to get an evening meal in the restaurant at the time we wanted and we found one bar full of wedding guests and the other far from inviting.
Breakfast was lack-lustre: the plates at the hot buffet were cold as was the bacon and the coffee was not very good. All in all, we were disappointed and do hope things will improve before our next visit.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Saes Good service; enjoyable stay.
While we got what one would expect from the Holiday Inn, the fitness complex and swimming pool had a great view from the second floor vantage point. The restaurant is on the top (11th) floor and offers fantastic panoramic views acros Plymouth, although it can only be accessed by elevator, so if you have a fear of them, it is a distinct disadvantage.
Enjoyed our stay.

i was on business in plymouth for the first time in many years and so was slightly nervous about what i might find. But i was very pleasantly surprised because the room was good, with a superb view towards the Ho, the gym, although smallish, totally adequate. Every single member of staff i met, from cleaners, reception, bars.restaurant were fantastic in their friendliness, efficiency and all round helpful behaviour. I can say without hesitation that i would recommend the place and i will certainly stay there when in town next.

My wife and I spent 3 days at the Holiday Inn in Plymouth and had a really nice holiday. The hotel was excellent, the walks into the town were very pleasant and the shops, Barbican, sea front views, aquarium, and restaurants were top rate. We had dinner in the hotel on the last night there and it was superb.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Skiip50 Great location - shame about the service.
The location of The Holiday Inn, Plymouth, could not have been better for me - close to shops, The Hoe and family. However, check-in was poor with no recognition of my Priority Club status or use of name. Room was dull and lighting even duller. Curtains were part off the track and the air-con was so noisy that it was almost preferable to turn it off at night, at the risk of freezing. An update must be on the cards.
The room had no safe so I was very unhappy about leaving some items in the room when out - but did not want to carry a large bag either. Surely a safe is standard in most hotels of this class?
The fire alarm was set off as a test, but with no warning. This meant a walk down eight flights, for no reason. It appears that the alarm could not be tested on the regular day and nobody had thought to inform the guests that there would be an test on Friday morning! The manager, Richard Newbery, did apologise, but this still did not change poor practice.
Service overall was very average - I suggest that staff are taken to the Bristol Holiday Inn to see how service can be when the staff are both well trained and motivated. The only exception was in the restaurant where staff were welcoming, helpful and chatty. Thank you.
I had breakfast among the first guests each day and found the breakfast to be very average, with fried eggs solid and bacon that was cold and congealing. The bread was poor quality and there were only a limited number of pastries and fruit available. This made the breakfast that I wanted to eat expensive.
A pity that the trip was spoilt by lack of attention to detail at The Holiday Inn, Plymouth.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DRC2 clean & comfortable
we stayed for the weekend 26/10/2012 in a room with 2 double beds which was more than adequate for the three of us! The room was clean and comfortable and gave a choice of pillows which I have never seen in a hotel before!! We ordered sandwiches from room service when we arrived (which was quite late) and although they were expensive they were enjoyable. We didnt have breakfast in the hotel but at a pub next door which was alot cheaper. We also used the leisure facilities which were very quiet whilst we were there but can imagine would get very busy at peak times. The only downside was very limited parking which was charged at £3 per night. The underground carpark is very tight and fills up quickly. We parked there on friday night but had to park on the roadside on saturday night.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sheepy1214 Brilliant room for a family with older kids
Amazed at the size of the room, having two older kids this room was brilliant, some hotels are on the small size, but this had loads of room for everyone to relax, pool and gym were and added bonus, only down was the food prices in the bar. Fab location to explore Plymouth.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Willow40 Great Location
We chose the Holiday Inn at Plymouth having stayed there previously. Located between the City Centre and the Hoe the Holiday Inn is in a great location. We stayed for two nights whilst visiting relatives and knew that the central location of the hotel would be ideal for us. The Hoe in particular is a great place to take your kids out for a run after dinner.
We had a family room on the ground floor which was far more spacious than most other hotels we have stayed in. So there was plenty of room to relax.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the top floor. However, we had no problems with lifts. Breakfast itself was the usual buffet with plenty of choice. The staff were very accommodating and the children enjoyed the view from the window across Plymouth.
The only negative part of our stay was the food in the evening. With two young children we chose to have room service which we found expensive, cold and not to be of a quality that we would have anticipated.
Nevertheless we would highly recommend the Holiday Inn at Plymouth to anyone visiting the area.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fran57 Great Location, good hotel
We stayed two nights in October 2012. The hotel was perfect as we were attending wedding celebrations close by. Shopping and historical Barbican all within 10 mins. walk. Not a luxury hotel but clean, efficient, more than adequate. Good value. Stay spoiled by fire alarm at midnight - apparently not unusual - nearly always caused by shower steam despite clear warnings, or people smoking in their rooms. The later this time, I was particularly annoyed as being a smoker I had gone up and down 11 stories to smoke outside. However incident handled quickly and efficiently by staff and fire brigade.

Have stayed in Plymouth on at least 3 separate occasions as a family and also on business. The views and food choice in the restaurant are terrific. The rooms comfortable and spacious, although the large windows to the front can make it a bit noisy on a Friday night with cars and motorbikes roaring around the area. The refurb of the pool area is absolutely superb, great swimming pool and gym facilities and the sauna and steam room were great too. We look forward to staying again soon on our way down to to see family near Hayle.

Central location. The hotel was clean and quiet. The pool/sauna etc was a great added bonus and well maintained.
Generally helpful staff, although we were disappointed when we visited the penthouse bar. Staff here were having personal conversations in loud voices - to the extent that we heard details of their social lives. This spoilt the atmosphere.
Easy parking.

Welcoming & helpful staff . The pool was a great way of relaxing after travelling all day. Breakfast was very good and I did not feel rushed despite being there long after breakfast had finished. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. This was my second stay and would certainly stay again. We had a set dinner in the Ballroom which was very good considering the number of meals that were served that night.

We have been using the Holiday Inn every other year for several years, as we attend a biennial reunion of staff who worked at the Royal Naval Hospital in the city. We have always been treated very well on our visits. Rooms are comfortable and clean, as would be expected, but the staff always put themselves out to look after us well and the Reunion weekends are always a pleasure.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tutts558 Very adequate room
Stayed recently at this hotel, and was greeted by a very cheerful female member of staff, who gave me a full introduction to the hotel and its services. This hotel has three very quick lifts for guest use. One that goes to the basement car park, which although tight for manoeuvring is also a bonus.
Our room contained two king size beds, which were very comfortable indeed. The only thing that let the bathroom down was the tired sealant around the bath, which was coming away from the tiles.
Our room had a locked connecting door to the next room, which was occupied by a family with two children. They thought it was a great idea to keep opening their side, bang and attempt to get into our room. (Not good planning by staff who don't have very inquisitive children).
We stayed for two night and booked breakfast on two days. On both occasion the staff were good, helpful and polite. This area was let down by some of the food appeared to have been reheated from the previous day, namely the sausages.
We will stay here again after having a worse experience at a nearby hotel last year.
