Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cannot fault this Hotel THIS IS OUR FOURTH VISIT TO THE HOLIDAY INN IN PLYMOUTH. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED EXEMPLARY SERVICE ON ALL OUR VISITS IN ALL DEPARTMENTS. ALL THE STAFF ARE A CREDIT AND REMAIN IN SERVICE, WHICH IS A CREDIT TO THE MANAGEMENT, SAME FACES GREET US AS ON PREVIOUS VISITS, THAT SAYS SOMETHING THESE DAYS, THEY ARE ALL HAPPY PEOPLE AND SEEM TO BE VERY HAPPY IN THEIR WORK. YOU WILL BE SEEING US AGAIN VERY SOON.. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.. December 30, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Accessibility & spacious rooms Hotel is located very near the city centre and great location to see some local tour sights. Rooms are very spacious which is comparable to American hotel rooms. But, the rooms need major refurbishment. Furniture are a bit outdated. Shower curtains smell a bit. Hallway carpets are old, as well. However, staff were kind and helpful. December 27, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A great weekend stay We had a lovely two nights here despite some poor Plymouth weather. The staff were warm and friendly, the room clean and pleasant (with a good shower) and the food we had was very good. The view from the top floor restaurant is quite exceptional and it we enjoyed looking out whilst eating breakfast. If visiting Plymouth then this is probably the best choice for a hotel in the City. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great views from the restaurant This Holiday Inn is just about ready for a refurbishment. The Views from the top floor restaurant over the Hoe and Plymouth Sound are amazing. It would be nice though if Christina the restaurant Manager spent less time telling everyone else what to do and more time doing her own job. Two nights in a row I had to wait a minimum of 5 minutes to be greeted and I was not the only one who was left waiting at the far end of an empty restaurant. The rest of the restaurant staff were great, friendly and efficient and they were coping very well without the constant managerial interruptions which were within earshot of the clients. As a Gold elite customer I expected a welcome drink or points and free wifi. Neither were offered to me by Angela, I had to request them myself. December 23, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by shower The shower curtain smelled of urine. And the shower gel wasnt really enough for 2 showers. December 20, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed You would think that The Holiday Inn would be guaranteed quality but think again. Our bedroom was at the back and we soon realised that there was a continuous sound coming from outside our window from a generator. This went on for 24 hours and all through the night. We rang reception 3 times from our bedroom but no one answered. We finally managed to get through the 4th time. The swimming pool was closed in the health suite. We were informed that it had been closed for some time. The staff were very friendly but there was a party on the Saturday night and not enough reception staff. There was a long queue at reception on Sunday morning. We only needed a token to exit the car park as we had pre-paid but even this seemed to be a problem. I hope that HI will invest in the hotel as it is very popular due to its location and in a University town. I would rather pay an extra £20 a night to have a good quality hotel December 19, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent value for money Very large room with 2 double beds, excellent value for money, staff very polite and helpful, very clean, beds comfortable. The only disappointment is that drinks at the bar are far too expensive even for hotel prices and it's a shame as this lets it down. December 18, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Learn How to Cook HI Plymouth The HI Plymouth is in a great location and the views from the hotel is excellent. The rooms are tired and could do with a revamp but hey, not every hotel can be revamped every 5 minutes. I have stayed in the HI Plymouth many times on business and have had plenty of time to consider this hotel, I have been made welcome, the service is good, reception, bar staff, parking, rooms all good BUT.... Consisently the cooking at the hotel has been appauling. Basically it seems the kitchen staff do not seem to know what they are trying to achieve with the food. For example, order a chicken bbq pizza and you will get a pizza so covered in bbq sauce its impossible to eat. Order a leek, pea and butternut squash risotto and it will be covered in lines of balsamic vinegar - another dish runied. And, as someone else has commented rubbery eggs at breakfast. In all ideal location but dont eat here. Signed - a world traveller on business who has dined in hundreds of restauraunts worldwide and knows when someone hasnt got a clue. This hotel hasnt on the catering front I'm afraid. December 16, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Great Location My first stay at the Plymouth property, great location with a lovely view from the restaurant on the high floor. I was staying for just the one night to visit friends locally and had travelled down from Kent. We were checked in quickly, and I'm not sure if a training or IT issue but I had to 'pull rank' to have my platinum status recognised for internet access. As by the time I realised the need to do this we had already been booked in, I can only assume this to be the reason for lack of upgraded room for elite members, when the IHG site still showed availability. Had I realised this sooner, I would have said something. We were in a rush due to visiting a theatre, and as this was just the 1 night stay, I didn't feel the need or have time to mention this. Parking reasonable at £2.50, although the car park is *very* tight. Overall a good stay and I would have no hesitation in staying again. December 16, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lack of information on check in re restaurant Checking in was quick and easy and I managed to check in about 45 minutes early. Informed that the restaurant and a bar were on the Penthouse and we're open and the ground floor bar opened at 17:30hrs. What I was not informed of was that Saturday night was a Christmas party night and the bar and restaurant were closed, nice quiet meal with my wife with views over Plymouth Hoe Cancelled, if we had known the restaurant was closed for the evening we could have made other arrangements. Also there was no mention when booking that the swimming pool was closed for maintenance. Moving on to Sunday morning and breakfast, it was not made clear when booking that breakfast was not included, I have stayed in Holiday Inn Express hotels numerous times and a buffet breakfast WAS included and the first time I stay in a Holiday Inn I had to pay December 11, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room and good staff. Lovely clean room with two double beds and slight view of the Hoe. Very comfortable bed, slept very well. We had breakfast which was excellent, a buffet with lots of choice and we also had dinner which was also excellent with good portions. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we would go again. We didn't have time to visit the roof top bar which looked very nice as we were late back from the Theatre so went into the Sports Bar, drinks were expensive and felt it rough. December 5, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Platinum member but no amenities In the past, Platinum membership got me bottled water and cookies. This time, nothing special. December 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Shopping weekend The hotel was in a great location with great views across the hoe also close to shops and restaurants, had no problem parking in the hotel carpark plenty of spaces to choose from, room was spacious and well equipped we ate in the hotel on our first night and found the food to be very good as was breakfast on both days, overall we had a great stay at this hotel and will return as soon as possible. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by revamp very good. it was good to see new carpeting from car park stairs up to reception area. Also refurbishment after the fire . Much better than before. Good room with views. Comfortable bed. Maybe an extra pillow in the wardrobe would have been uesful. Breakfast is always top grade. An enjoyable stay. Used the pool/sauna facilities. Brilliant. Thank you. December 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay.... Great hotel the staff are very helpful and friendly particularity the two guys in the bar on the ground floor. Great rooms and plentiful car parking and a fantastic view from the restaurant on the 10th floor looking out over Plymouth and very close to all local amenities also. You wont be disappointed with a stay at this hotel. November 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fantastic time once again a fantastic time at the holida inn plymouth. Lovely rooms, great staff who cant do enough for you and fab breakfast. November 27, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Good location Did not like room it was rather tired looking, curtains ripped badly, furniture with cup marks all over it size of room good but not what I would class executive. I had rung twice to check we had sea view which we had looking through large machinery being dismantled the whole weekend. The breakfast was not brilliant eggs like rubber but the worst was when the people that Sat next to us were in pyjamas and fluffy slippers and had just got out of bed they were not kids but in their twenties where was a manager with a dress code Dreadful then on checkout charging for things I had not had it happens all the time I was told November 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fab room with a great view Excellent stay, great location, fantastic staff, would recommend. Only negative is that we we recommend ear plugs to block out air conditioner/extractor fan noise. November 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable stay Enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Comfortable and everything I needed was there. Staff very helpful. I chose this hotel as it is in close proximity to the shops and I can not wait for the next time I can stay there! November 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Our Stay at The Holiday Inn We have stayed here on a number of occasions - friendly staff, clean rooms, food is okay No problems. Its a nice hotel - Externally a bit dated but the inside is refurbished and clean and noise level is a minimum - have tried other hotels in the area but always go back here. Will be back again in the New Year..... What is good is that we have visited this hotel over a number of years and with regards to staff there are a few familiar faces which is lovely to see (Main reception and the restaurant), they are always friendly and professional. thank You November 14, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and Convenient Just a short walk to the city centre and superb views over The Hoe and Drake's Island, this hotel is ideally situated with convenient (but tricky to negotiate) parking in the basement. The room was well laid out and the bed comfortable and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The hotel is quite old and as we were on the tenth floor facing south we noticed we did experience a draught around the windows in the strong winds. Generally a very pleasant hotel with friendly staff. November 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic room with view. Staff very pleasant and helpful Stayed for one night, fantastic room, twin beds were both doubles. one of the best breakfasts we have ever had Would always recomend it to friends and family. Will definitely stay again how about doing pre theatre suppers?. November 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by an unforgetable stay The food is great and the views from the restaurant overlooking the sea and the town breaktaking . The staff at the restaurant is quite nice and helpful . However the receptionists should give the clients more information about the hotel and its amenities. Once upgraded , the superior room was quite comfortable . A place I would definitely recommend even if using the hotel car park can be quite a challenging experience with a big car November 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by enjoyed hotel stay. Great service We really enjoyed our stay. Our only negative was that there wasn't a jacuzzi as we have stayed in other hotels where they had a jacuzzi and that was something that was lacking here. Other than that great hotel. October 31, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Food Stayed for two night on business. Hotel could do with a renovation as very dated and worn and the food could have been a lot better. October 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and nice location Always use the Holiday Inn for my work visits to Plymouth. The staff are really friendly and always try to help. The location is excellent, and the rooms always clean and tidy. The room service food is some of the best you will find and very quick. The hotel is slightly older than some in Plymouth, but at least you get an indoor pool and sauna for those winter evenings. October 25, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room 14 Our stay was very good. Only negative was the weather and double plug sockets under mirror didn't work nor did tgr free standing lamp..... The breakfast however was AMAZING!!! Can't wait to return. . October 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brilliant room for a family of of 5 Surprise to received a big room with four beds for a family of five. Brilliant pool and service all round. Breakfast lots to choice from and evening meal very enjoyable. October 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic views from the restaurant Great large room with two double beds and a view onto green space with trees. View from the restaurant was stunning, even in the rain, and food served at breakfast was fab and dinner likewise. All staff were courteous and helpful. Pool was larger than your usual hotel pool with steam room and sauna. Parking convenient but watch the pillars! Well be returning very soon. October 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Staff and service The reception staff were initially rather cold and we felt they thought they were doing us a favour. However, the restaurant staff at dinner and breakfast were very good. The food was good and the accommodation was clean and comfortable, although the décor was somewhat dated. October 24, 2013
