Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Little Competition. As a Platinum member for years (& for a number of years), when in the area I always look to this hotel for accommodation. However most of the time the rates are too high, don't know why because the Hotel is in need of a renovation. The Hoe sells this Hotel, not the decor, which is a throwback to the old Queens Moat House days. When I do book the Hotel, I always have to ask for an upgrade room (usually declined! even when they are still selling upgrade rooms.) Booked in for business purposes last week, again no upgrade & I had to ask several times to get the "upgrade" bottles of water sent to the room, definitely do not recognise Platinum IHG members. Upon arrival found out why the majority of Hotels in Plymouth were fully booked, on the Hoe was a MTV music festival & the noise in the Hotel was horrendous, no apologies from the Hotel who were charging even higher rates than they normally do, the noise went on for 3 nights! Obviously not the Hotels fault, but to charge even higher rates? July 23, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed customer I stay at this hotel at least once a month and am a platinum member of the companies rewards scheme, I was booked in to the hotel for three nights from 14th July, I was disappointed to find my room did not have water or a biscuit which I have always had in the past, when I asked at reception if there was a reason for this the young girl just said you are not entitled to them. The shower area was also a little grubby with quite a lot of mildue on the tiles, I do realise that the hotel is due a refurbishment but it's still disappointing. I was also disappointed to find out on my arrival that there was a concert on in the hoe for two nights and that there would be loud music on till 11.00 at night. Overall this was a disappointing business trip. July 20, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room and good breakfast with great view The room was clean and comfortable with two large double beds. The furniture however in the room was quite worn and was not of a standard I would expect. however that did not deter from the whole experience and we slept extremely well. Staff were very friendly and efficient and there was always somebody to ask if you needed anything. Breakfast was served on the top floor with a fabulous view every morning. it was self service but the choice was good and items were topped up regularly so everything was fresh; staff in the restaurant were efficient and friendly, clearing away regularly. Overall for what we paid we were very happy with our stay and would definitely return. July 17, 2014

Only problem was with the tiny parking spaces in the carpark. Location of hotel was excellent - very central to everything - we were able to walk just about everywhere. July 16, 2014

The hotel staff are all very helpful and also knowledgeable. The food in the restaurant was good and varied but the most impressive thing was the view from the 10 floor restaurant over the hoe, it is spectacular and cameras are definately recommended! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic hotel in a brilliant location! Situated on Plymouth Hoe, there are stunning views of the fabulous harbour and coastline from the Penthouse floor. A very nice breakfast is served in the restaurant on this floor and the staff are very friendly and efficient. There was a long queue on checking in but the staff at reception dealt with this quickly and with little fuss. I stayed in an Executive seaview room and was very pleased. It was clean and comfortable, and there was plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits and bottled water provided. If you need your stock replenished or you've forgotten your toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel etc... then the staff are more than willing to provide you with whatever you need! For those who wish to shop, it's only a 3-4 minute to walk to the high street shops and a further 5 minutes to Drake Circus shopping centre. If you are looking for something to eat or drink then you are only a 10 minute walk from the popular Barbican area where you will find plenty of pubs and restaurants. Overall I had an excellent stay here and would definitely use the hotel again and recommend to others. July 9, 2014

The staff were very friendly throughout the hotel. The Ballroom was magnificent for the wedding reception and Plymouth is a beautiful city to stay in. Would definitely come back again. July 9, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Never again How can the Holiday Inn think it is acceptable to put paying guests in a grubby room with badly stained carpets, a bathroom that smells of stale urine and a 6 foot high black wall 2 foot away from the window completely obscuring any view? There are obvious staffing issues with bickering and arguing in front of guests both in the bar/restaurant and overheard when calling room service. The room service was dire, 55 minuets from calling them and being snapped at when calling back to enquire where the food was, to a wrap with some grey sludge inside and half a lettuce leaf on the side, not quite the chicken breast with crunchy salad advertised! There are cheaper, cleaner and better hotels in Plymouth. July 9, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and helpful, friendly staff Stayed for 2 nights last weekend - had a fabulous time and couldn't fault it. My partner, daughter & I had a family room which was spacious & clean. The bathroom was small and a bit dated but adequate for our needs. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful as were the staff in the penthouse bar & restaurant. We were given some vouchers so breakfast for the three of us cost a total of £15!! The variety and standard on offer was excellent and the views from the penthouse across the Hoe were stunning. Plymouth in general was superb with lots to do & see from Smeatons Tower to the Aquarium, the Barbican to Royal William Yard. Well worth a visit and looking forwards to returning!! July 3, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Weekend away checked in good service from the front desk staff room not ready so given token for a drink and snacks at the bar to pass the time. my thanks to mike in the bar in the evening service excellent could not do enough for you, bar meal and drinks very good. Two nights good sleep air con a bit noisy but did not affect us will return to this hotel next visit July 2, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by STAY IN PLYMOUTH HOE Overall I found it a good experience although the service at breakfast was not great and at twice (out of four occasions) the bacon ran out and was replaced by bacon that was barely cooked. I certainly could not eat it, and neither could the rest of my party. Most of the staff at breakfast time were good, we were shown to our table and asked if we required tea or coffee, which was bought straight away. However, on a couple of occasions, we were shown to our table and NOT asked, and after five or ten minutes we had to ask staff for our drink. The bar was very nice and staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms overall were fine, but we felt the whole hotel could do with a bit of a re-furbishment. We booked a parking space on arrival at £3 per night and when we checked the bill we had been charged an additional £5 per night for a reserved parking space which we did not request and did not receive. This amount was deducted but could easily have been missed by someone who hadn't already checked what was owed. Swimming pool was barely deep enough for a swim and the one time I tried to go in the steam room I had to come straight out again as it was burning hot . July 1, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by I'm sure that it was lovely in the '80s. A tired and unmodernised throw-back to the 1980's. The windows were poorly fitting, Aluminium framed, did not lock closed, and offered no noise attenuation. The constant braying from the seagulls was quint for the first hours, but not the rest of the night. The bathroom had broken tiles and sealant, although the shower had been updated since instillation. Breakfast. Being in the penthouse suite I was excited: this was quickly dashed. It was a cramped 'bun fight' with too many people for the size of room, the choice was 'modest' and the quality fair. Staff were generally pleasant enough, but not all of them were particularly welcoming. The only redeeming feature: Location. A disappointment. July 1, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Favourite Hotel The Holiday Inn Plymouth has been a favourite hotel for 7-8 years partly for it's central location and Elliots penthouse restraurant with It's stunning panoramic view over Plymouth Sound and not to forget the great food. Parking is easy and the staff are always attentive and friendly. Rooms are generally spacious and comfortable with good quality furniture although would benefit from a makeover. I highly recommend this hotel and will stay again when visiting the area. June 28, 2014

Breakfast and Restaurant service overlooking the Hoe was spectacular and the staff were attentive to our needs. The pool is adequate except if you wanted to swim fast as the depth is restricted at one end. However, this is a minor irritation. Bed linen and towels were clean but I would have liked a few biscuits with the Tea and Coffee tray in the room. June 26, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Needs Refurbishment The public areas of this hotel are generally modern and good condition. Sadly in my experience the corridors and rooms could do with more than a "lick of paint". The paintwork on the skirting boards and door-frames were badly chipped; the carpet looked a bit tired and while the room was very spacious it looked "tired" and in need of upgrading and the lighting was dim. The bathroom was clean but looked old and there were visible signs of repairs to tile grouting and sealants which made it look shabby. The staff at the hotel were excellent, efficient, friendly and helpful. We'd arrived late and were tired but couldn't lie-in as long as we'd have liked because breakfast stopped at 9.30 am June 24, 2014
