The room I stayed for my reservation at Holiday Inn Portsmouth from was very cold. The heater didn't work either.
I suggest that operations staff does a thorough check of basic amenities provided to guests in the room before a check in is initiated.

Really enjoyed our stay. Only a few days but very enjoyable. The only negative comment we have is that £6.10 for two cups of tea is exorbitant! The teas were in small cup, not even a lot!
We had a beer and a spritzer and it didn't cost much more!
Otherwise everything was good despite the wet weather.

the welcome at reception was excellent,
when we got too our room,which was spotless,no toilet roll,when we received said toilet roll,no toilet roll holder,no towel rails.
breakfast was shambolic and over priced,we had servedourselves breakfast and eaten it before our pot of tea arrived.then we had to ask 3 times for cups and milk.
sorry but when we decided to treat ourselves we expected a little better service.

Not particularly impressed as building works going on in overhead room all day and felt that the room allocation could have considered this and put guests on floors where work was not going on immediately overhead. While this was going on from 9am - 6pm it meant that it was impossible to relax if one returned to their room to do so during the day Lack of towel and toilet paper holders in bathrooms with now place other than putting them beside the wash hand basin behind the toilet. When I requested toilet paper replacement in the bathroom twice this was not done. Generally service was adequate and staff generally helpful and pleasant. Location was my main reason for staying at hotel and this would be my reason for return. Cleanliness was good as was food. I was not offered IHG membership.

The lack of free wifi in the hotel is a bit of a disappointment. However in general hotel is comfortable, the staff are friendly and bar and restaurant staff are attentive enough.
Didn't use any of the fitness facilities although they did look good, so I will try these next time.
Overall a pleasant stay and I will no doubt return.

Bathroom tiny but clean.
Service good as usual here and nice relaxed atmosphere.

I'm disappointed to have to write this because I use IHG hotels regularly and they are invariably excellent. Unfortunately with the Holiday Inn Portsmouth this was not the case.
On arrival I waited about 10 minutes at reception while the one person there dealt with people in front of us without acknowledging my presence or asking for another member of staff to assist her in dealing with the queue. Check in was fine, other than a refusal to add my welcome bonus points (as every other Holiday Inn I have stayed in this year has done) but instead issuing me with a slip of paper.
We went to our room, only to be disturbed almost immediately by drilling from the room next door. I went downstairs, again waiting while the only person on the desk dealt with others. I was then told 'we are doing improvements' and that the noise would continue until 6.30pm and start again at 09.00 the following morning. I wasn't offered another room - I had to ask for one and was eventually found one. The member of staff assured me there would be no disturbance in that room - so why put me in the original room? And why not warn that there were building works taking place when we checked in? Had we known in advance we would not have booked a room in a hotel where this was happening. The following morning the work began in the room above us at 08.30. I think the whole experience was unacceptable due to the lack of notification on booking, or on arrival. I booked using points and I would like them refunded.
