Stayed at The Holiday Inn Portsmouth for 3 nights July 28th.
Arrived at 3. 00pm to be told the room was not ready. The man on reception made every effort to have it made ready a.s.a.p.
Our 1st time in Portsmouth and the reception staff were very good at directing us to certain places.
Our room was good on the 4th floor with lovely views across the Solent to watch the ships coming and going.
The staff at breakfast and dinner were exceptionally friendly and very obliging.
The position of th hotel in relation to attractions is very good with most places about 10 minutes walk away.
On the whole a very pleasant and friendly stay.

Stayed here for 1 night on way home from France. Loved Portsmouth and really enjoyed staying in the Holiday Inn. Staff were very helpful and the room was superb and breakfast excellent. The Hotel was in a lovely area of the city with great evening views of the Spinnaker Tower etc. Would definitely stay again.

This is in a prime spot. Park the car and then explore. Southsea 5 mins away, gun wharf 10 mins.
The room was a little small for an executive room, and the cleaner did not come until after 2 pm, so we told her not to bother as we were getting ready to go to a wedding. This really was not good enough. The breakfast was good but did get busy the later you left it. The drinks in the bar were on the pricy side.
The pool was nice and not very busy at all.
The taxi service from the hotel was very efficient.
Great place to stay for a short break, the location is superb.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by littleorangeIQ Clean and comfortable base for a sightseeing trip
Executive Room was immaculately clean and well presented for the price. Bed was comfortable (unusually did not need to request extra pillows). Breakfast was excellent. Parking is a bit restricted but Reception gave us a permit for parking on the street right outside the hotel. My husband was impressed with the swimming pool/fitness suite. The only disappointment was the quality/price of the evening meal, which seemed rather expensive for the quality of the meal. Altogether a hotel we would happily return to and recommend.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mjhudston Good Hotel, Staff are friendly, but still has room for improvement
On the whole this is a good hotel.
During my stay this week, the hotel had a bit of a refurb. Unfortunately the room I was allocated for this week, was not up to its usual Clean standard.
The tiles had been re-grouted, but not wiped down properly. WHich meant I got white dust all over my arm during a shower. What annoyed me was I had to mention it Twice, before it was finally sorted.
I do know that things do not always go perfectly, but when they are raised, they should be dealt with with out having to raise it again!
My other moan, is that the restaurant could do with offering weekly specials, and get a grip on the stock list. To often they run out of things!
Having said all that, the staff are always friendly, great me by name, and are always willing to chat, which is great fro the lone traveller like myself. (It does help I am a regular here)
There is still room for improvement, but this is the best Chain hotel in Portsmouth. For that reason I will continue to use this hotel for my on going stays in Portsmouth

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by dilko great place to stay
stopped at this hotel because they gave us a good deal booked 4 room fri to sunday 7 people all family member .
the hotel is only 5 mins walk from the sea front and about 15 mins walk to the main shopping area in the port .
the rec staff were great rooms not ready when we arrived but we did turn up at about 12.30 . but no problem we left the cases in the car and took a walk down the seafront had something to eat came back about 4 o'clock all rooms now ready .
some people said the rooms need updating on the reviews we looked at but take it with a pinch of salt .
all the rooms we had were great well kept with flat screen tv ,tea & coffee in the room a/c with sea view.
also you can use the gym & pool steam room for free which we did
drinks and food in the hotel are well pricey but just down on the seafront is a pub restaurant and if you walk along the seafront you will find 3 more we sat outside and watched the sun go down
all and all we had a great time all the staff at the hotel looked after us all and nothing was to much for them very helpful and we had a joke with them would i go back well yes i would
and i would recommend this hotel to my friends. only one thing lets the hotel down is the parking the car park is too small for the amount of people staying there .
what we done was to park the cars in the back car park and left them there all weekend and walked everywhere has everything is only 5 to 20 mins away.

We stayed here in early July on the occasion of my son's wedding. The room was adequate and the hotel clean. We decided to use the dining room on the Friday night and was told there would be a 10 minute wait. 20 minutes later having not been called, we asked again and were told we could sit anywhere. It took an hour in total to serve us steak and chips. We were then asked if we wanted anything else and asked for mustard and salad dressing. This took a further ten minutes to arrive.
On the Saturday morning we arrived for breakfast and ordered one tea and one coffee. Unfortunately I had to ask for a cup for the tea and a teaspoon since neither were provided. I was brought a mug which was twice the size of the teapot.
Later we sat in the lounge and ordered coffee. This took half an hour to arrive, one cup at a time and was served the wrong way round.
Needless to say we didn't bother to order breakfast on the Sunday.
There was a total lack of organisation from presumably inexperienced and inadequate staff, especially considering that the hotel was fully booked

We spent 2 nights at this Hoilday Inn and would defnitely like to return. It is very convenient for an enjoyable walk (about 15 minutes) to Gun Wharf Quays and the Historic Dockyard area and the reception staff were very helpful providing us with a map for directions and explaining the route to us when we arrived.
It is in a very nice location with lots of green areas nearby and our first evening we enjoyed a walk to the sea, about 5 minutes away, with a local amusement park and crazy golf course.
The breakfast was lovely, self service buffet, cooked almost to order, i.e just the right amount was cooked as needed so it wasn't standing around too long being kept warm, but there was always a constant supply of what you wanted.
My only critiscism is of the speed of service of the hotel bar. My partner and I must have waited at least 10 to 15 minutes for a drink after our beach walk on the first evening and there weren't even that many customers in front of us. There was a shortage of staff serving and they had to keep running out the back to get clean glasses and then didn't have any chilled rose wine, but after seeing the price of a glass of wine, by the time they'd brought an unchilled bottle from out the back I'd decided I no longer wanted a glassof wine anyway! The next evening we decided to purchase a bottle on the way back to the hotel to drink in our room and it cost much less than a glass in the hotel and we didn't have to stand in a queue before we could sit down and enjoy it!

Comfortable and clean, efficient check-in. Steve called the day before arrival to check how we wanted the rooms configured with cots - good attention to detail - much appreciated. Great location a short walk away from Gunwharf Key.

We had a few days break in Portsmouth and on the whole the hotel and staff service was good. We felt that the bathroom facilities were a bit cramped and possibly ready for an overhaul. It wasn't possible to completely stop the water from disappearing from the sink whilst using it, even though the maintenance crew tried to free up the plug as soon as they came on duty. One evening we decided to have a drink in the bar and found it understaffed and a bit disorganised, having said that a couple of nights later more staff were on duty and things seemed to be running more smoothly.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Aesculus Room very good value but.....
The hotel was very clean, the staff very helpful and the food of good quality. The breakfast menu was very good indeed -lots of choice, fresh and appetising. The evening dinner was somewhat of a let down in some respects. The service was painfully slow- 55 mins to get a meal on the first evening and 35 mins on the second. A number of options were not available on both nights. The waiting staff were apologetic and I suspect the problem was in the kitchen. There were issues with the white wine temperature it was barely cool and had to be returned twiice. This was disappointing considering the price of the bottle. The food when it did arrive was very good, well presented and tasty. If the dinner service could be improved the hotel would be hard to beat for good value.

This was our 8th stay at this Hotel and we were surprised on arrival to be asked if we were at the right Hotel This was due to the fact that the Receptionist did not ask how to spell our name and could have been handled much more professionally
We were disappointed with the Breakfast Buffet which was below the usual high standard at this Hotel. However Dinner in the Restaurant was to be recommended.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by PhilipSta Lovely hotel except for one thing
My wife left her mobile on charge in the room while we went out. When we returned to our room around 3.30 pm the cleaner was in the room. When he saw us he quickly unplugged his own phone from my wife's charger and plugged hers back in. He had removed the charger from her phone to charge his own. We told the reception staff on leaving the hotel who on the face of it were very nice and promised to email us after they had spoken to the member of staff. They said that this was unacceptable practice. We have not heard anything and over a month has passed now. We didn't want anything just confirmation that our thoughts had been registered and acknowledged. Were left wondering what else of our personal belongings had he been using!

Arrived for 2 night stay to attend the 3 days of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. We found from the moment we arrived that all the staff were exceptional in their friendliness and service. We have stayed in much more expensive, hotels with better facilities but would be hard to find better staff anywhere. The breakfasts were excellent and there was a wide choice. We would definitely consider booking again next year. Thank you.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by gilly1969 Great staff but poor room
The reception area and lounge looks lovely but can't say the same for the room. Very small and needs a good overhaul, tired decoration and the grotty bathroom has no soap dispenser or enough shelf room for toiliteries and the bath towel was tiny, not much bigger than a hand towel. Air con was good. Area is noisy as it's near a college so at 1am drunk students singing in the street, not the hotels fault but if you want peace and quiet you shouldn't stay here. I went to the dining room for an evening meal to be told it was fully booked as 2 coach parties were coming in so it appears that you either have to book a table before you turn up or the hotel needs to make the dining room bigger. I ended up with eating a bar snack in the lounge area, order was served with food missing but it was rectified. Staff are friendly but I would never stay here again. The price of the room was ridiculously high for what I got.

The location of the hotel could not be better as it is just a short walk from all attractions. The hotel staff were very courteous. The room whilst comfortable was in need of refurbishment eg. decorating.Overall I would certainly stop at the hotel again if I am in that area and would recommend it to friends or family.

We had a really great stay at the Holiday Inn. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We asked for a nail file and extra milks for the in room coffee on our way out for a walk and on our return they were in our room waiting for us. The position of this hotel is great everywhere was in walking distance Old Portsmouth, Gun Wharf, Isle of Wight hovercraft and ferry and Southsea. There is a bus stop just outside for trips to Chicester.

We were a wedding party and overall had a very good experience, with the exception of the bar.
Service at the bar was slow and one of our group seemed to be shortchanged whilst settling a bill. Some attention is required there. Try a mystery shopper there, you should spot the problem.

First visit to Portsmouth and had a lovely time. Hotel was nice and clean and the staff were really lovely and accommodating. Got a quite cold in the evening and the air conditioning wasn't working properly in our room. The hotel manager kindly gave us a portable heater to use during our stay. Would definitely come again.

I wish I had paid more attention to the detail of the hotel when I booked it - as I would have used the gym and pool.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, the room was lovely and the bed was so comfortable.
We had room service - food was great. Breakfast was busy - but we were seated quickly and again the food was lovely.

The room was very spacious, clean and quiet. Decor slightly dated. Had to pay for internet access on top of room charge which is a little antiquated, but was of good speed and reliable connection. The parking lot was too small; had to wait for others to leave (a rubbish skip was placed to take over 2-3 precious car spaces!). Close to park and quick drive to lovely restaurant area (near the port).

My Wife and I spent a week at The Holiday Inn, Pembroke Road, Portsmouth.
We had an Executive Room on the 5th Floor, which had wonderful views across the Solent.
The room was excellent, very clean with a comfortable bed and a choice of firm or soft pillows.
The breakfast was fantastic with a choice of cereals, fruit juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, cold meats, cheese, bread, a large selection of hot cooked items including cumberland sausage, back bacon, mushrooms, black pudding, hash browns, tomato, fried or scrambled eggs and a pancake maker !
The staff were smartly presented and very friendly.
The hotel is ideally situated within walking distance of the promenade and all the local attractions and only a few minutes to the Hovercraft terminal for quick access to The Isle of Wight.
As we do not drive a car it was very handy to have a bus stop just across the road.
It was a pleasure at the end of an enjoyable day to return to our hotel room.
Without a doubt we will stay here again on our next visit to Portsmouth and Southsea.

This was our first stay in a Holiday Inn and wasn't sure what to expect, but upon arrival we were greeted by very cheerful staff, we explained that we had to park on the street so we were given a parking voucher for the whole of the next day. The rooms were very clean and tidy, the view was great. The next morning we had the breakfast I found this to be good value for money. We also booked in for a meal in the evening and this was also fantastic and good value for money. The staff in the restaurant both in the morning and evening were very cheerful and helpful. We enjoyed our stay so much we will be returning again in the future. Thank you for making our weekend away a wonderful one.

On arrival we had a real problem to park in hotel car park as it is small compared to size of hotel. Ended up parking in area that was not designated.
Room was small but clean and bed was comfortable, so adequate for one night.
Evening meal was we felt expensive as was the wine, but have to say best chunky chips I've tasted!
Breakfast very good. Lots to choose from.
