We had a really good experience at holiday inn Portsmouth. From the moment of booking right through to check out all the staff we dealt with were very friendly and accommodating. They made our sons stay very special with the little touches like lining his teddies up on the bed, he was thrilled to see them, when we came back to our room. Also the table with the colouring and cookies was a fantastic idea in reception. All the staff made a point of talking to him as we'll as us.
Overall it was pleasure to stay with you and we look forward to returning.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by barbiefive0 great service, great staff
We had a excellent weekend away, breakfast and evening meal were perfect, considering that both of us had special diets, the staff were really attentive and knew what to recommend , did have to wait for breakfast, but, I think everyone had come down at the same time. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything that was needed, only downfall, there was a stag group, and kept swearing when in the lounge... however will stay again.

This Holiday Inn is located very perfectly, within max. 15 Minutes walk you can reach downtown with many pubs and restaurants, also the old harbour with the HMS Victory and also the Spinnaker Tower. Every employee was very friendly, the rooms are a little small, but nice bathroom and perfect bed, sat-flatscreen TV, hairdryer, you get everything you need. The breakfast was very good ! When visiting Portsmouth again I would definitly stay in this Holiday Inn again !

Another really good experience staying at HI Portsmouth. The staff are all so obliging and friendly. At breakfast they were attentive and cleared away used crockery so that the table was never cluttered.
The breakfast itself was brilliant, we especially love the fruits of forest compote.
Can't wait for the next time we are in East Hants and back at the Holiday Inn

The food in the evening was poor, the bread was stale and cold. This was replaced with another sandwich which was'nt much better but the bar manager did'nt charge us and gave us extra chips.
I have to say that the food at breakfast was very good and freshly cooked with plenty of refills

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by seh7 Only one minor comment.
Enjoyable experience while staying at Hotel. Reception staff very good. Only real comment was evening meal, quality of food excellent, but the service was very slow, I think that was due to number of staff available, and not directed to their service, which was reasonable under the circumstances. Would use hotel again especially if discounts were on offer as before.
PS; shame the Jacuzzi was out of use due to a leak.

We decided to book a weekend away and thought Portsmouth would be great as it has the shopping as well as the naval connection....my husband was in the Royal Navy. Booked the Holiday Inn because of the location close to the Gunwharf Quays centre and good value for money as we booked early.
The staff were very helpful and the room comfortable and clean.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by lozza020367 Great stay as usual
As we have relatives living in Portsmouth we have become regular guests at the Holiday Inn Pembroke Road.We always receive a warm, friendly welcome from reception at check in and what a great idea to have a colouring-in table for the little ones equipped with milk and cookies too. There is ample space in the family appointed rooms;we normally pick a family movie from the vast selection to entertain the children whilst unpacking.
Breakfast is always something we look forward to in the mornings;
as usual the staff are always polite and attentive.
We always look forward to our stay.Very convenient location for Gunwharf Quays and the Historic Dockyard.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by insanelad Good experience, will be coming back.
Having read the recent Tripadvisor reports before arrival, I was worried when Reception told me that I was in Room 629. However, I am pleased to say that my worries were unfounded. The room was just fine, the view was great and we had no problems with any smells of drains and also found the toilet flushing to be perfectly satisfactory. Yes, the bathroom is small but we didn't have to literally stand in the bath to close the door but will admit it is a tight squeeze. Personally I take the view that as long as there is enough room to shower, shave and ....... then I am happy. Hot water with decent pressure is also a necessity and there were no problems on this score.
As reported elsewhere here, the location is good. Gunwharf Quays, the historical dockyard, hovercraft, ferries and Southsea all within walking distance. Yes, the car park is small but vouchers are provided FOC from Reception for on street parking and over the Easter period, there was no problem parking immediately outside the hotel. Breakfast at £10.50 a head seems a steep price (and that's the discounted price available only for prior booking) so we didn't try it. It might be very, very good - but at that price I would expect it to be sensational to be honest.
Lorraine on Reception was very helpful, but we found all of the staff to be courteous and eager to serve. All in all, we were very satisfied and will happily use this hotel again next time we are in Pompey.

Our second visit to Holiday Inn Portsmouth, all good as before, our only criticism one member of staff in the restaurant at Breakfast looked as if they had slept in their uniform and the same the next day , bit off putting, and somewhat abrupt as well, all other staff great, same pleasant young lady as meet and greeter at Restaurant entrance, sorry to moan about this but really noticeable

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by mjbayley Not up to usual HI Standard! Hmmmm!
We stayed at the H I Portsmouth the night of a music event at the nearby Pyramids Centre.
As I use Holiday Inn's regularly and know what to expect I was please to find one within a mile of the venue.
As we like the little luxuries in life I booked the most expensive Executive room with breakfast included.
Location was fine, as was parking.
Check in was OK and we were given a room on the top floor.
However, on entering the room, it was apparent that the executive bit was just the addition of bath robes to a pretty much standard room.
Bathroom was tiny, and a standard sized bed.
The letter I was handed on check in also stated that I should have been offered a complimentary drink or extra priority points, I was not.
These I had to ask for on my return downstairs later.
After the event we attended we returned to the hotel at around 10:45pm and decided on a drink at the bar.
Only to be told that the cash bar was closed and only room charge was available. It was not even 11pm? Normal bar closing time!
We got our drink and went to the room, and decided on room service breakfast for 09:00 and placed the usual card outside the door.
Next morning I noticed the bill had been placed under the door, however, by 09:15 no breakfast had turned up so I opened the door, to see the card still hanging on the handle.
As breakfast shut at 09:30 it meant a big rush to get downstairs before it closed!
How can someone put a bill under my door, yet not take my breakfast order????
These problems I mentioned to the staff and on checkout, but was either treated to a shrug and a laugh or an apology due to agency staff on duty at night.
Overall, I have stayed in much better Holiday Inn's with much better rooms and service for half the cost of this tiny room with poor service from disinterested staff! !!!!
Sorry but these little drops in the usual service leave me very doubtful if I will ever use this particular hotel again!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Devon3 Comfortable bed and wonderful food
My husband and I stayed overnight on our way to visit relatives. We have stayed in other Holiday Inn Hotels but this one was very superior. Our executive room was a good size and very clean and comfortable. The dinner was first rate with a good selection of dishes and really fresh vegetables. The dessert was glorious. The breakfast included everything one hopes for in a traditional Englist breakfast PLUS there was a pancake maker, as easy to use as a toaster! Great fun! We loved the fact that the fried eggs were cooked in front of us by the chef...and therefore cooked to perfection. .
The only small thing was that the bathroom was very tiny. Anybody over 15 stone should make sure they have a room with a bigger one as, in our room, they might find it hard to negotiate round the door to the basin.
The staff were friendly and accomodating. The hotel intself was right opposite Clarence Pier with a pleasant park between us and the pier.
It was a lovely stay and we would definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by lozza020367 Fire alarm and hotel evacuation
As I have relatives that live in Portsmouth I choose to stay at the Holiday Inn for the convenience of distance to them plus the walking distance to the attractions - Gunwharf,Historic Dockyard.
My trip to the hotel on 26th January was to be an extra special one as it was a chance to have some mother-daughter bonding time for myself and my eldest daughter,Hanah.Everything was going very well until just after we checked into our room and started to unpack and get ready to go down to the restraunt for dinner.Suddenly the fire alarm sounded(very loudly);we checked outside our room and there were lots of other guests also doing the same thing, not really knowing what was going on.Some guests were clearly interrupted whilst in the bathrooom. At this point my daughter became very scared and very distressed and understandably started shaking and crying uncontrollably.I tried my hardest along with the other guests that had know gathered in the stairwell on the fourth floor to reassure her that everything was fine (no smoke,at least we know the fire alarm works etc etc etc, anything we could to try and calm her down). After what seemed like a very long time we decided to go down the stairs and make our way round to the hotel reception where we saw that guests were now being allowed back in.The rest of the evening was totally spoiled;I managed to entice my daughter down to the restraunt but she could'nt eat anything.Of course I,to,was completely put off.On the way down to the reception we stopped by the reception desk to be told my the reception manager,Maz,that it was a false alarm and that there was nothing to worry about. He was very receptive to the fact that my daughter had been traumatised by what had happened and very thoughtfully arranged for a member of staff to present us with a balloon to try and cheer her up a little. He clearly empathised with my situation and came to chat with us for a while in the restraunt;offering us a free kids film plus a late checkout the following day.I was very appreciative of his efforts but it was after two o'clock in the morning that I finally managed to get my daughter to go to sleep after many tears, phone calls to home via my mobile and wanting to go home;which was'nt really an option in the early hours of the morning.A letter of apology was slipped under my door the following morning from the guest services manager.
Myself and my daughter enjoyed a leisurely swim the following morning before heading home.
I am very appreciative of the efforts of reassurance made by Maz to my daughter and I must say that he is very professional in his approach and an asset to your company.

This is the main reason for choosing the Holiday Inn Southsea over the Express in Gun Wharf. There is an atmosphere here which the express is left wanting. Rooms are a little tired, but alright, great breakfast topped off with that welcome feeling throughout the stay.

should keep it a secret for myself).
