Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by stress free Our arrival was greeted by a happy smiling receptionist who made us very welcome and explained all there was at the hotel for us to avail ourselves of. Our room easy to find and as always, with Holiday Inns, clean and comfortable. We had supper in the bar and the meal was very good accompanied by some very nice wine. I hope we will have a reason to visit this hotel again. March 23, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great facility - average experience I have stayed in this hotel a number of times and it is a great facility, good location and well maintained facility with a great health club. I find though the restaurant poor and bar food no more than average - although the bar staff are excellent. This is the only Holiday Inn I stay in that doesn't recognise the priority awards status on your room, I never get an upgrade and there is never a bottle of water in the room - despite me being a platinum member, the only acknowledgment I get is a 20p newspaper in the morning! Because of location and lack of surrounding competion I will uise the hotel again but service details should be addressed. March 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Still waiting Although we have top rated everything our stay has been marred by the General Manager not responding to our over charge complaint. We upgraded our stay to the romantic package to include dinner. Before ordering we asked the manageress if there was anything on the menu extra to our package. In her words you pick and choose off any menu its all included in your package. At checkout we noticed a surcharge for food on our bill but was assured that if we paid in full the General Manager would look into it and contact us by email. Sadly although we called reception to remind him, he has not bothered to contact us. A nice stay spoilt by the General Manager March 9, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Internet slow and staff unhelpfull I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights over a 2 week period, and both times the internet was unusable. I reported this the first time, and was told it was due to the hotel being full, yet offered no refund. the same thing happened the following week, and the same excuse was given. They still refused to give a refund, and offered me a 24 hour access code, but wanted me to pay for the second days usage, even though they admitted it was very slow (we are talking about 0.15mbs download speeds!) I wrote a letter of complaint, and never received anything back. Not good for a hotel that advertises 'high speed internet connection' and sits right next to the major IT companies of the world, so they know the majority of users will be needing internet. On the plus side, it has a very nice pool, and the rooms and nice and new. I will not be staying here again. Also be warned, the website says the internet has a initial fee of £3.50, and when you ask the live chat about this, they tell you it's a connection fee per device for the first 24 hours, its not, it's for 1 hour!! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stay here again, yes I definitely will Had a one night stay here for course attending nearby. Room very clean and modern. Food very good, had exceptional evening meal in restaurant. Can throughly recommend having treatments in the Spa. The lady that did mine was very good and would definitely go to her again, such a pity live so far away as would be regular to hotel just for her alone, very professional and certainly knew her stuff. Pool was inviting with warm water. On the whole enjoyable relaxing experience. Have to attend further courses in future and due to location to venue and hotel experience I had will most certainly book there again, maybe this time stay an extra night! March 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Room and Comfort Room was cold, had to sleep with the heating on to get warm on the first night, however this got better as the week went on. February 19, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Food Always a great to get away from the normal hotel menus with excellent Indian and Thai food alternatives. Comfortable rooms and lovely swimming pool. February 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by overall very simple and easy to get to, a couple of minutes of the M4 junction, made very welcome, staff extremely helpful, rooms excellent standard February 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Decent Hotel I have visited this hotel on a number of occasions as it is well placed for business and very close to the M4. The hotel is new and the quality of rooms is very high, good furnishings, very comfortable and very clean. Food (I've only had the buffet breakfast) is good although standard HI fare. Staff although fairly efficient don't seem to have any personality and never recognise platinum status or offer upgrades. Checkout is often painfully slow if there is any sort of queue. Usual gripe over HI hotels continuing to charge for internet access although you can now buy four hours instead of having to pay for 24. HI really need to stop charging for internet particularly for platinum members. Overall, well worth a visit, always a very comfortable stay. February 11, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel With Good Leisure Facilities This appears to be a fairly new hotel and we stayed for 2 nights. I could not fault the accomodation (rooms spacious) or Leisure Facilities. (Great swimming ) Had breakfast on both days, good array of buffet / hot food in a spacious restaurant. Only disappointment was the 2nd days breakfast. We decided to order non buffet food from their menu (Poached eggs and Kippers). My eggs were like rubber and they forgot to order the Kippers. Took 30 mins to get the Kippers and when they came they were so over cooked they were not edible. Staff were apologistic but took the shine off an otherwise good visit. Would like to think the chef was having a bad day but breakfast not up to the usual standard. Would have refused to pay had it not been included in the deal. Overall its a good holiday inn hotel which had some breakfast issues February 11, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Modern Hotel This is a new hotel and the rooms are very well appointed. The hotel is convenient for office although there is not a lot of choice around for evening meals. The only disappointment was the ventilation. If you want a cool room it is difficult to achieve even when it is snowing outside!!! January 29, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Good overall, but room temperature is uncontrollable, and check out very slow. Everything about this hotel is good/very good (gym, staff, food etc) EXCEPT: a) It is impossible to get the room to a confortable temperature. Don't ask for a fan, they don't have any - they had to give me one from an office, the second time I stayed somebody had it so my room remained at 23 degrees and very stuffy. I was told by reception that there was nothing they could do until the fan became available!! b) Check out on a Thursday is disgraceful - soooooo slow. January 25, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 Dubious Breakfast Room was good. Dinner was good. Breakfast not so. Last time at this hotel breakfast was disappointing. This time it was downright bad. Mid breakfast I discovered something strange in the scrambled egg. Then one of the sausages (having eaten one) had a very pronounced mouldy taste. Complained to waiter. No action. Complained to supervisor. No action. So now, dispite the fact that the hotel is extremely conveniet for my visits I am seriously of a mind to not stay here again. January 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service and Very Comfortable Room Had a very pleasant stay at yoru hotel. Very helpful at reception and at breakfast, didn't have dinner but sure it would be the same. I was there on business with our office at Jacobs along the road so will definitely recommend it to my colleagues. Many Thanks Stuart January 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hard to fault This is a good Holiday Inn. OK, it's a formula, but everything works. Staff are friendly and helpful, food is good. Rooms of good size, standard and quiet. Nothing to do outside the hotel but when staying on business, this is fine. Stayed several times now., January 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A great place to stay I use this hotel regularily due to our offices being local, I often think twice about meetings if the hotel has no availability. January 16, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by GOOD ACCOMODATION BUT BAD RESTAURAUNT SERVICE We visited for a 2 night christmas package, accomodation fine but christmas dinner service a shambles. 4 guests , 3 meals arrived then after several promps and a 10 minute wait final meal, rest by then cold. Portions pathetic for a christmas lunch and worst christmas dinner experience ever. Even charged for extras inckluded in package as billing was a shambles Other service issued occured and restauraunt staff appeared inexperienced. Avoid for meals if you can January 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent room Room a good size, comfortable and clean. Would have saved a lot of stress if explanations on using lifts had been given on booking in. It took a long time to work out that room card was needed to use lift. Slot was low and not well advertised. We were rather upset that there was only one ordinary tea bag and one camomile in the room. Most people require a cup of tea on arrival and also one on waking x however many guests in room. Breakfast was rather expensive as the food items were past there best and very dry at 9am, one would expect fresh food at £15 per head. Would stay again but not have breakfast. January 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Corporate stay at the Holiday Inn Im a frequent satyer at the Holiday Inn in Winnersh and find the friendly service from the bar staff warming and welcoming, especially Mika and Amit The food is excellent and the rooms are modern and clean December 17, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A short business trip I stayed at this property for a short business conference and was pleased to find a modern and stylish Holiday Inn after the many branches which are quite dated. The staff is friendly and ensured everyone was looked after even though they were working to near full capacity. Overall no complaints. December 11, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, Hotel located perfectly for business in Reading area, Good services and hosting. Beds are less comfortable but the overall - good experiance December 8, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Holiday Inn I have stayed at in the UK We booked two rooms for two nights with a Spa package for one of the rooms. The hotel was extremely helpful and understanding when I asked if we could share the treatments between my daughter and her mother despit having different rooms. Also the restaurant was very helpful about the included 3 course dinner and we were able to sort out our 4 dinners without any problems. The restaurant was excellent, by far the best value and best food I have had in a Holiday Inn. I have stayed at many across the UK on business and leisure and have so often found the food poorly cooked and presented and way over priced. The staff in the restaurant, particularly Adrienne, were extremely helpful and catered for the needs of my 11 month old grandson admirably. We did eat very early but even so the staff were busy preparing for quite a large number of Christmas parties but still made sure we were well attended to. I am reliably informed the spa treatments were enjoyable and my daughter had a manicure on the last day and found the manicurist very professional but also very friendly and helpful. The pool and its surrounds are lovely, one small criticism would be the steam room smelt very musty, perhaps a clean of the steam generator would help? The rooms are large and inviting however the windows, at least in our room, quite small, however that may be an advantage of keeping any external noise down. The rooms seem to be well insulated for noise but perhaps a bit too warm for many people but fine as far as we were concerned. The bathroom toiletries are basic but adequeate for our needs. My daughter asked for a shower cap and razor for my son-in-law as he had forgotten his, although they had a shower cap no razor could be found. The very close proximity of the railway station and 25 minute journey into London makes it a cheap alternative to staying in London. I realise this is a fairly new, purpose built hotel but it is definately a standard that all Holiday Inns should aspire to. I doubt that many would be able to beat it. December 8, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Accommodation and facilities - Good Dinner booked for 8pm - sat down at 9pm - Bad 3 Course meal Cold with lukewarm re-heated Veg - Ugly It was a big family get-togther - 20+ PEOPLE CAN'T ALL BE WRONG !! Could do a lot better because everything else is good. December 7, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Marvellous local cheeseboard and a great wine list too It is always comfortable here and convenient too - just hop on the train (leaves on the half hour) and it's 6 / 7 minutes into Reading station with its regular connections to London Paddington etc. Five minutes from Reading Station and the wife is in heaven - John Lewis and M & S!! A brilliant position for a hotel saving all the nonsense (and cost# of getting parked in Reading etc. We had an evening meal on Saturday. Particularly impressive is the wine list, comprehensive with plenty of medal winners at sensible prices and the cheeseboard with well kept local cheeses from Ann Wigmore out at Spencers Wood #Wigmore, Waterloo, Spenwood# and others too. In between the food was pretty good by most hotel standards and very good by the general standards in and around Reading / Wokingham. Breakfast was the usual buffet fare but good choices. Staff, as always, well trained in customer service and ever polite and helpful. We have stayed before #several times) and would strongly recommend this to people wishing to stay in the area. Book early and it can be a good weekend bargain. There are good facilities and a secure underground car park. Will we stay again? Definitely - it ticks the right boxes. November 19, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good Experience We have stayed at the Holiday Inn at Reading a number of occasions. Each time we have found the hotel excellent. We have only eaten in the Hotel once, but found it reasonably priced and good quality. We have always enjoyed staying there and found the rooms clean and have all the facilities required for a short stay. We used the pool and spa this visit and although the ladies changing rooms needed a quick mop over the floor due to fluff, hair etc the remainder of the facilities were very good. I would recommend this Holiday Inn, having stayed at the other Holiday Inn on the West side of Reading, this one is far better and newer. The staff are very helpful and room service very efficient. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smart, good value hotel We had a suite which was very good value and was spacious, smart and clean. The bed and pillows were quite firm. I enjoyed my (continental) breakfast however my husband said that the cooked food wasn't too special. Nice to have a pool, steam room and sauna . The staff were very helpful. The location was ideal for our requirements as we were visiting relatives in Woodley. We would recommend the hotel and will definitely stay there again. November 16, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Staff it's a shame about the cooking A comfortable, modern hotel where staff are welcoming and attentive to everything you may need from a quality hotel chain. My only disappointment was the over priced and over cooked food in the restaurant. A rare fillet of beef came well done with an insiped sauce to cover the poor catering skills that demolished this premium rated and priced item. Shame, everything else was 1st class November 15, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel Easy to find, as it was well signposted, and good parking when we arrived. Hotel was very clean, staff were very friendly, and food was excellent. November 10, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not as relaxing as it could have been Overall the stay was fine. The room was modern and comfortable although the complimentary toiletries, despite having fancy names, were some of the worst I have come across in many hotel stays. However the service and staff training at this hotel need attention in a number of areas. They may seem trivial but we hoped for a relaxing break, and the little hassles made it hard to relax fully. We were able to check in early which was much appreciated. We were asked if we would like a newspaper in the morning, we asked for The Times. The wifi, which is now free in most places is incredibly expensive here. In the morning, there was no newspaper. We went to breakfast which we had included in our room rate for an extra £10 each. If you don't prebook it is £15 per person which again, is very expensive. The breakfast was nice but we asked for tea and coffee which never arrived, we had to ask again and it came towards the end of breakfast and they were very slow to clear all the tables of dirty plates and turn them around for new guests. The top up of food was not as fast as it should have been either. There were no fried eggs ready at the hot counter. As we passed reception I checked on my newspaper, and was told no newspapers had come. That was disappointing as I had hoped to read it whilst relaxing at the pool. There is a whsmith opposite the hotel but it is closed at weekends. The pool was nice, but there's no supervision and families with children were allowed to do as they pleased. One chap thought it would be a good idea to take his 2 small children into the steam room, when they objected he sat with the door wide open and let all the steam out. After using the pool, sauna and steam, which were clean and pleasant, I was able to book a massage. I went to my room to change after my swim but the lift would not operate with my room key, as although I had late checkout as a Priority Club Member, obviously nobody had extended the room key. Another trip to reception to sort it out. Back to the spa. The lady was very friendly and pleasant and the massage was very enjoyable. Check out was fine. If a couple of service issues could be rectified and the wifi and restaurant pricing sorted out, this hotel would offer a much better stay. November 8, 2012
