Just spent the night here (have been here before) and the renovation they are doing is wonderful. Rooms are larger, bright, modern, well decorated and comfortable. Location of this hotel is right on the RiverWalk and it is easy to get to all the sights. Front desk staff were kind and gracious. Breakfast Buffet was really good - they will have an a la carte menu when the renovation is over - but the buffet was delicious and we all enjoyed the food. So happy with this hotel!

In general I've always felt Holiday Inns are terrible compared to Holiday Inn Express (where I normally stay for business travel). EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Holiday Inns I've stayed at in my entire life are run down dumps. I have no idea how they keep these in business. Against my better judgement I stayed here since I wanted to a) keep acumulating points and b) be ON the river walk.
I did not know construction was going on when I booked this hotel. Unfortunately, the staff is having to deal with it the best they can, but it's no fun for those of us staying there.
2) Staff did the best they could to help
1) Run down hotel
2) Some parts of the room were dirty (sink, etc.)
3) Access to the River Walk is not obvious, only ONE elevator takes you to the access and access to this elevator is simply random chance on which one come when you push the button. You have to walk through some type of dungeon tunnel to get to the River Walk .... which is the only reason on earth why you would stay at this place.
My Advice to this hotel: get constuction done ASAP, make access to the River Walk intuitive, uncomplicated and visibly attractive, and at the very least concentrate on making the rooms clean.

We were very surprised when we arrived at your hotel. We were not informed that there was a renovation in progress. I wasn't concerned until we got up to our room and found that the balcony was not available for use. When talking with your employees at the check in desk, we were told that all guests were notified of the construction, we were NOT! We were very disappointed that we requested a balcony on the River Walk and was not able to use the balcony. The toilet lid in our room was broken. We called the desk to let me know. I was quite surprised that if someone cleaned the room should have contacted maintenance. We were also told that there was a continental breakfast and that was not the case.
Your staff is very courteous and friendly. The pool area was very nice, we thorougly enjoyed it each day. We loved the location of your hotel.

If i hadn't been forced to stay at this hotel as part of the group travel, I certainly would never have stayed at this hotel. It's not even to the same quality as a HI Express property.

I have been a priority club membor for over 20 years and this is the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. I made the reservation 2 months in advance for a room with balcony but when I arrived was told that the rooms were under renovation. I got to my room and could hear hammering, sawing and drilling in my room along with repeated alarms telling us to evacuate the hotel followed by messages to disregard. Relaxing was impossible. That night we went to the resturant and it was close. Signage to avoid the construction was awful. Of the 4 people I saw during check out none had anything good to say.

We pay full price for a Hotel that was under construction, and we didn't know it was a mess until after we paid for the room. We were not able to go to the balcony as it was sealed due to the construction, which is a big deal since its right next to the riverwalk and thats why we chose this location. The fire alarm kept going off several times during the day, only to be false alarms. The hall ways were super hot, and my biggest problem was that we were awaken at 8:00 am with a loud noise of hammering and construction work with no way to go back to sleep. There was no direct entrance to the Riverwalk, we had to go all the way around just to go to dinner, and to top it off the receptionist was a girl with no multitasking skills, alot of attitude and no costumer service. This was the first time Holiday Inn dissappointed us, and we are not sure if we are going to give it another chance, we felt like we wasted our money.

I know it's tough to renovate a property and still remain open to guests...but it would have been nice to be notified of this at booking time. One of the things I enjoyed about this hotel at previous stays was the balcony access and being able to relax out there after working (I'm in SA for business occasionally), but during renovation ALL of the balconies are locked.
Trying to get work done in-room on Sunday was constantly disturbed by construction noise, and the restaurant was closed for lunch so no room service. The in-room menu said nothing about this. I returned one night at 11:00 and room service did not answer the phone, the in-room menu indicated it was open until 11:30.
These are nit-picks, but made my stay less than optimal.

Service was excellent. The only problem we encountered was the fact that we were not advised upon booking that there would be construction going on. Workman were on the job at 8:30 in the morning right above out room which did not provide a very restful stay.

Showed up one hour early and checked on the room, and it was not ready. So I walked the beautiful riverwalk for two hours and called to check on the room. Check In was at 4:00pm, now 5:00pm and the room was not ready. All that was ready was a queen room on the riverwalk. We showed up at 6:00pm to check in and only the queen was ready. The room was an access room with a queen bed. The balcony was closed, so no looking out at the river that night from the room. I was not told why my king room was not ready, and could not be ready after two hours after the 4:00pm check in time. And with the balcony closed the room was not an upgrade.

I have stayed in several Holiday Inn's and have always been satisfied with the rooms and the service, except this time.
First we were unaware of the construction going on in the hotel. This was not a big problem except we were unable to use the balcony of the room. Since we stayed on the river walk to be able to have that amenity it's was a little dissappointing. Second and most important the room was not clean. I don't mind outdated rooms but there is no excuse for dirty showers, carpet, drapes, etc. Third, when we received our bill we were charged twice for parking. I understand mistakes are made but a quick review of the charges would have caught this error and allowed me to check out without the hassle of having to have it corrected.
I'm sure a lot of these issues will be corrected after the construction is completed but I won't be staying there in the future to find out.

Was not expecting much as I knew the hotel was going under rennovations. Once checked in was very pleased that the stay was wonderful. The staff was very accomodating and always had a smile.Thaks for the excellent service :)

This was probably the last time that my wife and I will stay here. The rooms are getting worn down and really need to be refurbished.The bathroom/tub area was terrible and needed some repair. The sink had a strong smell of sewer gas every time the water was turned on. The carpeting in the main area of the room hadn't been vacuumed and needed cleaning. The view out of the window showed only a rooftop of the building across the Riverwalk, littered with beer bottles and trash.
During our stay, there was an activation of the Fire Alarm system. My wife and I went down the stairwell from the 7th floor, but could not hear the "All Clear" announcement because there are no speakers in the stairwells. If we didn't decide, on our own, to go back up the stairs, we'd still be there waiting.
All in all, this wasn't the value in a room that we expected.

Fabulous location, right onto the Riverwalk with wonderful access to the bars and restaurants.
The balcony was closed in the room because of renovation work but that would have been a nice touch.
Great fitness room, pool and lovely whirlpool - nice touch.
It would be greatly improved if there was a fridge in each room (you could hire one for 10 dollars a day but who is going to do that!!). And a microwave would be a nice touch too.
Would definitely stay again if in the area.

I stayed 5 nights in November, 2012, and will not return to this hotel. My stay was marred by inconvenience, frustration and hassle. First, I booked early, online, attempting to secure an advertized "special" rate, but I failed to notice in the confirmation that a higher (by $30/night) rate was applied; I discovered this at check-out, but was told nothing could be done. Next, and worst, I was informed at check-in that construction was underway on the roof, but that, aside from not being able to use the balcony due to possible falling debris, I would not be affected. Not true! The first morning, noisy internal renovation in the room directly above me began at 7:00 a.m.! When I complained, an apologetic manager told me no work was to be performed before 9:00 a.m., and it wouldn't happen again. However, it occurred again on 2 more days! Although a small amount was subtracted from my bill, it didn't offset the hassle of being awakened 3 mornings by construction immediately overhead! Lastly, on the morning I left, the construction crew had blocked off the ONLY elevator to the garage and were (exclusively) using it to transport their materials. This forced us guests who were leaving to either carry our luggage up the stairs to the garage, or wait until the now overwhemed valets could hike to the garage to retrieve our cars. It was a zoo!

We went on the weekend Nov. 17-19, 2012 for the weekend. The hotel is at an excellent location with access to the Riverwalk and near a Rio Taxi stop. Staff was very cordial and helpful. On the downside, the hotel is under renovation and we could not access the balcony, renovation noise began around 9:15 each day. On the last day, I walked up in the morning and found a roach walking on the carpet of the room. On check-out day, garage elevator was out of service and I had to go up 5 floors by stairs to get the car.

Room was not the cleanest and smelled like throw up. Room had holes in the ceiling. Elevators were out, no parking and staff at the front desk looked more tired than i was after driving 8 hrs. I don't think we would stay here again.

We had caesar salad for dinner for usd10 we add chiken for usd 4 but it was frozen, didn't like it, it was very expensive.
Right now is under remodelation, we went for the 1/2 marathon and couldn't rest because there was a lot of noise. You can hear all the noise from the river restaurants all night.
I'll never stay here again.

Personnel were friendly and helpful. However, our room was not ready when we arrived at 11:00pm. I had called to let them know we would be late. We were compensated for the inconvenience. Also, we were not told that our balcony was locked due to construction. We would stay again because of the people. Location is great.

Realizing this hotel is under renovation, the room I stayed in did not look like it had had maid service in several weeks. Lots of dust, clock did not work and was disconnected from the outlet, lampshade frames were rusted and dirty. Very outdated with poorly patched popcorn ceilings and a balcony door screwed shut.
Location was lovely but room left a lot to be desired.

I was on the 19th floor and at 7:00 construction began banging right above my ceiling for hours.
Also, I had a do not disturb sign on my door and the maid knocked on the door at 8:30 asking if I was checking out today.

My cousin and I had a wonderful stay at the Riverwalk Holiday Inn. The room was very clean and comfortable - nice bathroom with amenities. Ate breakfast in the restaurant - nice buffet at a moderate price. All staff were helpful and responsive. I slipped on some wet tiles coming in to the Inn, and the staff was very helpful and concerned, getting ice, helping with reports, etc. Would definitely stay there again.
