Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and comfort Almost everything about our stay was superb. The biggest complaint we had was the lack of a mini-fridge or microwave in the room, even though their dresser unit was totally designed to house a fridge. It made the prospect of leftovers from the riverwalk not that great April 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Staff was not very pleasant. Great location. Clean rooms. Wifi weak. Staff not too interested wether we stayed or not. We would stay there again. April 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautifully renovated We booked 2 separate rooms with king size beds and the sofa bed on Easter weekend. Checking in was very busy however was done very quickly. Our rooms were conveniently located right across from each other. One of our rooms had a beautiful view of the riverwalk the other had a nice view of the swimming pool. The inside of the hotel was very updated and beautiful as well as the rooms. They had a very modern look and the rooms got rid of the ugly carpet you would typically find in rooms. The only problem we ran into was one of our rooms didn't have extra pillows and blankets for the sofa bed that were suppose to be in the closet but as soon as we notified the staff it was brought up quickly. Also has easy access to the riverwalk you literally walk out the back door and theres even a elevator you can access from outside by the riverwalk that can take you directly to your floor which was great after a long day of walking all over. A draw back that my step father encountered when trying to relax in the room after a long day was they blocked out the Spurs game, apparently they do this so that you go spend more money to watch the game instead of staying in your room to watch it "free". Aside from that my family loved it and the kids loved it we will definitely be staying here again and recommending it to friends and other family members. Just be prepared for the expensive parking fee its about $20 to park your own car in the hotel garage or $26 for valet parking April 5, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice facilities, poor service Overall it was an average experience. Hotel is recently renewed so facilities are confortamble and nice. Service at the restaurant is not a highlight. Staff at the restaurant was not very friendly and in ocassions seem to forget we were even there. Food quality was good though. April 3, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth the money Bathroom not cleaned and floor dirty. Called front desk and was put on hold for a very long time for cleaning the room. went down to desk and reported room not cleaned. When we check in no information was giving about the layout or directions for the hotel. April 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ready for guests again. Stayed here in the midst of construction in February and this hotel was a disaster. Now the construction is mainly complete and so I would say it is ready for guests again. There was still significant construction noise generated after daylight, but not sure where they were working and it was quiet at night. They should never have tried to stay open during construction. The people were in a much better mood this time and service was much improved also. April 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by riverwalk My wife and I brought our grandkids to San Antonio for sightseeing. Our stay at the Holiday Inn was fine. The staff which we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The dining staff at breakfast were very cordial and served us well. We did have difficulty with the housekeeping. We did not have enough towels in the room for four occupents and were not able to resolve that without daily intervention. Also the toilet essential were not stocked suffciently. March 30, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, but things need fixing there We stay for three days (a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday). Positive experiences with this location: 1) Great location and very convenient to a number of things you'll want to see 2) Very clean and has been updated recently. 3) Staff is very nice and tries to accommodate you in every way. Negative experiences with this location: 1) Had to park a block away because the garage was full, but that end up being half of what it would've cost to park in the hotel garage. Glad it was not raining. 2) TV did not work. Had to have maintenance come fix it. 3) AC unit fan would not stay on after the first night so it was deathly silent in our room so it was not easy to sleep. This was reported to the manager, but it wasn't fixed. 4) Make sure you don't have a room next to the elevators because with no AC unit running, you hear them going up and down at all hours of the night which kept us awake. 5) No working vents in the bathrooms. 6) Had trouble with housekeeping getting them to leave us more than two towels when we had four people in our room. 7) When you stay there, make sure they're not doing construction. One morning (around 6am) we were awoken by a nice loud jack-hammering sound resonating through the walls. The staff is really nice and works hard, but the room was not up to par so it gets a solid "one star" overall rating for this stay. The staff deserves a four or five star rating though, but the room experience brought the overall rating down being that we spent most of our time dealing with the room issues...not the staff. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Will not stay there again We are priority club members so we stay at Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express very often and usually have a great experience, but unfortunately not at this hotel. We were in town for a cheerleading competition this time. When I got to the hotel, before I even checked in, I was told the parking garage was full and I'd have to park down the block. I had to leave my keys with the staff to make sure I'd come back and move my car. When I was inside checking in, I saw one of the staff getting out of my car and lock it. I was not told they'd be getting in my car so this made me feel very uneasy. By the time I brought my children to the room, where I had to leave them unattended to move my car so I wasn't walking them around downtown San Antonio in the dark, I was told that the garage down the block was now full and I was going to have to move my car 2 blocks away. When I got to the garage, I had to pay $8 for the night, and when I left the next day, I had to pay another $9. So I paid $17 for parking when it was supposed to be included with my stay to park in the hotel garage. Also, the parking lot was full even though the hotel was not...I had to wait a while to check in because the one staff at the front desk was booking a reservation for that same night and informing him the parking lot was full. Also, we booked a room with 2 Queen beds, but when we got to our room, it was a King bed and a small uncomfortable pull out sofa bed. One of my children slept okay, but the other was very uncomfortable. My husband and I barely slept at all. The King bed was terribly uncomfortable although it is a new serta mattress, it is a low end quality, very hard with very little padding, very uncomfortable. The Pillows are very small and lumpy and not much to them, that was even worse than the mattress I think. I could hear the elevators moving up and down in the elevator shaft all night and early in the morning. I could hear guests in the hallway very late and starting at 6am. Overall it was just not a good experience for the Holiday Inns we are used to. March 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great service but a few minor issues Very nice modern hotel right off the Riverwalk. When I first arrived I was directed to check in, then I would have to drive my car down the street to another parking garage. Right after that one of the valets took a vehicle to the hotel garage and it kind of frustrated me. I know I'm only a gold rewards member but I like to believe my business is very sought after? The floor in my room was very aesthetically pleasing but left my socks pretty discolored. Liked the view and the room overall plus had a very short and pleasant stay. March 29, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by In construction, we were not notified prior to booking So we arrive to find that there is major re-construction happening, we struggled to find parking as the first three levels of the parking garage were taken up by construction equipment. When we came in the building we find the lobby had been moved to another level. -A makeshift lobby. We checked in and felt rushed, did not feel welcome. Our room was clean however we had four guests and not enough towels. The restroom does not have a vent. The floors were cold no, rugs. The elevators have covering on the walls with ply wood, they were in construction too but still functioning. The restaurant was not tempting enough to visit. We visited the bar for a drink but there were not enough sweet wine choices. The swimming pool although is heated, it is very small.. we couldnt even get in there were so many kids in there, same thing in the hot tub. When we left the hotel and came back the same day, there was a long line waiting for valet. There was only one valet, and he had the cars parked in the valet drop off area which made the rest of us with self park go around and go in through the exit area. Then they held us up at the gate, because a construction worker was waiting in fron of us and they didnt want to let him in anymore so they made us back up into the street so that the worker could back up into the street as well. Dissapointed, we paid full price for half the value. March 28, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by POLICE INTERVENTION FOR VALET NIGHTMARE What was supposed to be an enjoyable date night for my husband and me, turned into a nightmare. I attempted to check in while my husband parked the car (for a ridiculous fee- you shouldn't be charged to park yourself#...signs said office located on 7th floor, unfortunately if you don't take the right elevator you might end up in the parking garage or the kitchen #signs should mark the elevators). After finally locating the office I got our key, met up with my husband and we checked out our room. Room smelled like paint, but was expected as the hotel is under construction. Our room itself was nice, new, looked like it had never been used. We had a view of the river that I wish we could have enjoyed. We left the hotel to drive around downtown to check out the city. When we returned, we drove up to the valet area and noticed the parking garage bar up like someone had lifted it. We did not see a valet attendant so we honked, whistled and no one came out--as we did not want to be blamed for the damage to the property my husband got out of the car and tried looking for the valet attendant who still hadn't appeared #this is after waiting about 10-15 minutes in the car). Finally, the attendant came out from inside the hotel lobby area and charged my husband like a raging bull and accused him of breaking the parking garage bar. My husband and the attendant began a heated argument. After arguing for what seemed like forever the attendant called for security, security asked for my story and apparently didn't believe me either. The police were then called because the attendant felt "threatened" by my husband even though he was the one who had to be held back by security. To end the story security contacted hotel admin who said we had to leave, couldn't stay at the room we had paid good money for. Worst stay ever- and we've traveled ALOT. I would expect this kind of service from a low end hotel not from a nicer place. March 24, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by San Antonio Riverwalk Staff was very helpful in handling luggage and bringing vehicle around, The food in the restaurant was very good. We had dinner and breakfast there. The position of the AC ducts was not good. It was either blowing down from above or up from the registers on the floor. Poor design. When my wife opened up one of the wash cloths a couple of long black hairs fell out. Hair on the bedspreads, hair on the floor under the bathroom sinks. The internet was poor at best. Actually went across the street to Starbucks to access their WiFi to take care of some business. In summary, your 13 million renovation still has a way to go! March 24, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Valet and security I have stayed Three times at this location. And out of those three I have been treated wrong by both night shift security and the personnel at the night shift valet not saying all of the the ones working there. On fri night of our stay the valet guy gave us a hard time of where we were parked. We pulled up behind another vechicle no one was around that we could see and some young guy starts with us about where we are parked more so we had already checked in but he made an excuse with me about other people giveing him a hard time through the night which it has nothing to do with me. I was not drunk I don't drink and my thing is that some people need some people skills. There is a right way of talking to people who come in to the hotel and no need for being in a bad mood with the customers cause some one else did you wrong. I like coming here when I can get away from Fort Hood its a place to relax and enjoy myself. but not like that. security the same there should be signs to let you know if you need to pull up for them to see you because there were othere cars and SUV's there in the way. So if you have that person visible at all times so when someone pulls up they can then ask or tell them what that need or needs to be done. And thats with both. The rooms were awesome as well as the food and the service was great the people on the morning and early after noon shift were great this is why I keep coming back and keep telling others to stay at one of the holiday Inns in San Antonio if they can not get one then try another one. I tell all of my soldiers who are under my team to stay at a holiday Inn even the units that come in to train and have some time off I tell them about the holiday inns in San Antonio. not asking for special treatment just to be treated right and not disrespected because someone gave them a hard time I deal with that everyday when working with soldiers and more so when I was in Iraq no easy but I still have to be a professional. I want to say other then that everything else was great the rooms were like a very very nice and they were done with great taste Thank you all for your great service will be back again and will keep telling others to come and stay there. But please have a talk or send those people to some people skill classes if they don;t want to be there then they need to leave. Thanks again Holiday Inn staff you guys did a great job with the new work in the building the people that came to visit Texas for the first time were very impressed with the hotel they loved the room and the beds. they came from Michigan.. Thank You March 23, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Renovation taking place. Should have gone elsewhere. It is a great location but we were not aware the place was being renovated. i am sure it will be a stunning place when it is done. First thing that ticked me off was the construction, #2 the fact that I requested a river view room online and didnt get that, #3 there was no fridge in my room. March 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great room, and service even though the hotel was under remodeling, the stay was great. Everyone was helpful, and the room, was excellent. Would stay there again, and would recommend to anyonel March 22, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Do not recommend. The website stated the construction would be complete, however it was not. The parking attendant advised us the garage elevator was out and suggested we park on the 5th or 6th floor so we wouldn't have to carry our luggage too many flights when using the stairs. After carrying our suit cases up the stairs, the hotel clerk informed us the parking attendant should have offered to hold the luggage and bring it up later. We had a difficult time getting in and out of the garage due to the construction vehicles blocking 1 lane of the 2 lanes; in addition we had a difficult time finding a parking space due to the construction materials / vehicles using the parking spaces. If you are going to charge $23 to park wouldn't you think it would have been easier / less stressful. We did not have a refrigerator in our room, just the cabinet where it should have been. The paint fumes were very strong in the hall when waiting for an elevator. When housekeeping cleaned our room, they left us with less than half a roll of toilet paper, so we had to call for more. Given the amount we paid per night, I expected better accommodations / service. March 22, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by No Towels Upon Arrival I was glad I asked for towels when I arrived. There were none in our room, and for a 2 night stay, our room was never cleaned. Also, there were incredibly loud people next to us at 2am in the morning, and it took Security a good 30+ minutes to get there and quiet them down. Also, the pool is way small. March 22, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad experience I thought I was going to relax after driving three long hours right after work, and wanting to go to the hotel and relax and get ready for my next work day, I get to the hotel and there was no available self parking or valet parking. I had to park two blocks away and haul my luggage. After checking in (10:30 p.m.) and getting my room key, the room that was given to me was a used room. I immediately called the front desk to let them know of the situation and I was told that house keeping would be up to clean the room. Forty five minutes later, I had to call the manager and let them know that house keeping had not gotten there and requested another room. They told me that there were no other rooms available and was told to wait for house keeping. Five minutes later, I get a call back to the room and was told to go down stairs and get a key to another room. Hence, I had to go down to the lobby and get the key. They didn't have the audacity to come up to the room and take a look OR take the key to me. I took pictures of the room and went downstairs and showed them the pictures before getting the new key. The next day, I found out there was no self parking or valet parking available again. I am deeply and sadly disappointed and I will not be staying at this hotel again. I am a Priority Member and am very disappointed with the staff and service at this hotel. I cannot add the pictures as an attachment because I have them on my phone but I would like to attach on a separate email if I am contacted. March 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn riverwalk parking The hotel was fantastic and I have stayed there before. The lobby was under going a renovation. The lobby was finished the day we left and it looks fantastic. We did not know it before check in. The self parking is hard as the entrance is at an angle and the lane is narrow. Because of the construction many of the parking spots were taken with materials. We should not have been charged to park due to this inconvience. The staff was great. We had stayed last month at the Holiday Inn in London and that lobby and food area was also being remodeled...Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr The staff there was wonderful. Both hotels were very nice. March 21, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lied to about remodeling Website stated 15 million dollar remodel would be finished in February. We checked in Mid- March while still under construction. 5 phone calls to hotel about my room nobody stated front desk was moved to the 7th floor among with the riverside lounge and river view restaurant. We were in a ADA room on the 9th floor. Wi-Fi very poor. Yes the general manager claimed enough points would be credited to my rewards account for a free day UPON RETURN. The staff was using the remodeling as an excuse not to do their job. The contract valet staff were very helpful except while checking in. Kevin & Ashley went out of their way to be helpful. Still waiting on the general manager to return my last call Remodeling contractors blocked the valet entrance March 19, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Incomplete room Remodeled room missing several items like refrigerator , trash cans ect....... Harsh paint smell not recommend for the price and not a great place to park it cost you 20.00 dollars a night! March 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by March 2013 Revitalization This location was in the process of revitalization, what use to be called getting the new “H” or Green H upgrade. I was excited to see some of the changes I experience in the room. As a Platinum Member I was upgraded to an Executive Suite and found it to be a great experience. The changes I noticed included: - A very very adequate number of electrical outlets. The lights had outlets on their bases, where there used to be only one outlet in there was now two. Even the bed’s head board had an outlet. - New digital room temperature controls (thermostats) with motion detectors. I love the digital aspect of the thermostats, but have had some negative and positive experiences with the motion detectors, especially during the summer months. You go to sleep at night, they shut the cooling/heating unit off and you wake up sweating. - The new black décor in the bathroom was very pleasing. The sliding glass doors on the shower were heavy and provided a positive feel that they would not fall off. The lighted mirrors made me want to go and find one to purchase for my home. - Was glad to see the ground fault circuit interrupters in place at the sink in the bathroom and the kitchen area of the room. They are the type that will allow you to check them and they provide a visual confirmation of operation. - No carpets, that’s ok. It makes cleaning easier on the daily maid service. I still wish they would consider a couple of throw rugs. - For all you iPhone users that Sony clock in the bedroom has a docking station. When docked the clock’s speaker is available for listening to music. - The room also had a program safe for keeping valuables. - The only reason the rating for food and beverage was lower was the resturant and kitchen was greatly impacted by the renovations. The breakfast buffett was excellent. I definitely, never write this much about a hotel stay. So, I must have been very pleased with this stay. March 19, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Recent Stay I recently had 2 rooms on March 11th, 2013. I have stayed at this hotel many times in the past and currently have resevations for June 2013. We have always had a wonderful stay at this hotel that why we are repeat customers. However, on this particular stay, it was noisy through out the late eveing and night with workers and etc. I had attempted to call the Valet service when I was ready to check out of our rooms and after 15 min of trying, I realized our phone wasnt plugged in, nor did it have a single cord attched to it. to plug in to even use. The sheets on the bed had stains on them when I turned the bed down to get ready to go to bed. I feel in this case, there was a rush to utilize these rooms for revenue ( I spent over 600.00 for one night for the two rooms with valet service which is alot of money, but based on previous stays I knew it would be well spent and I wanted to give my children the River Walk experience) The Executive Suite was nice, but had the same phone situation. Nonetheless, my Children enjoyed the River Walk and all that goed with it, I was just disappointed in the room I had as I feel there were things that should have been completed before allowing anyone to reserve it. The renovations are over all very nice and I look forward to seeing the lobby completed when I come back in June.....thank you for your time in letting me vent...have a great day.. March 19, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NOT A GOOD STAY THIS MOTEL WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. WAS TOLD TO ASK WHEN I CHECKED IN FOR A LARGER ROOM SINCE WE HAD TWO HANDICAP PERSONS WITH US. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT ACCOMIDATE US. I REQUESTED A ROLLAWAY BED AND THEY SAID A DOUBLE ROOM COULD NOT RENT A ROLLAWAY BED. THE BEST THEY COULD DO IS BRING EXTRA BEDDING. WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSE TO DO WITH EXTRA BEDDING....SLEEP ON THE FLOOR!!!!! THERE ARE NO AMENITIES....NO MICROWAVE, NO REFRIG YOU GET THOSE IN YOUR CHEAPER MOTELS....THE ONLY GOOD THING WOULD BE THE POOL AND HOT TUB WAS NICE. THE STAFF WAS NOT HELPFUL. THE FOOD IN THE RESTUARANT WAS COOK IN ONE PLACE AND BROUGHT TO THE AREA YOU ARE EATING...AND THE PRICES ARE REDICULOUS. OUR NOT SATISFIED AT ALL. WILL NOT RECOMMEND. YOU HAD A CHOICE TO SELF PARK OR VALET PARK. YET THE PARKING GARAGE IS FULL OF ALL THE REMODELING MATERIALS. THEN YOU HAVE TO CARRY YOUR OWN LUGGAGE. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY PARKING IF YOU ARE RENTING A ROOM. March 17, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel under construction Hotel was being remodeled and we were not told, nor were we allowed to switch hotels. Pillows were way too small and parking was a nightmare, had to carry bags up 2-3 flights of stairs. March 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic location at a reasonable price Stayed 4 nights. Overall, a very positive experience, let down by patchy level of service from staff. Disappointed that the refurbishment was still ongoing. I knew the hotel was being refurbished but was due to be completed within a couple of days of my arrival so had not expected the lobby and restaurant to be unavailable. The temporary guest registration on the 7th floor was OK but the substitute restaurant, in what looked to be a meeting room, was disappointing. There was no view and no atmosphere. I had really been looking foward to having breakfast in the restaurant, which overlooks the riverwalk. I think both the lobby and the restaurant will now be open and this will make all the difference. I think, because of the refurbishments, it was a bit chaotic for the staff. It took three attempts before we were given a room that wasn't already occupied. The room we eventually got though was was very good - a good size and with a modern but warm decor and overlooked the riverwalk. The bathroom was lovely. A nice touch is that there was a proper hairdryer rather than the usual on-the-wall type which are usually pretty hopeless. Both bedroom and bathroom were very fresh and clean. Seemed odd that there was no fridge - there was an empty space where it should have been. On reading the literature in the room, it turns out you have to request a fridge - at a charge! Maybe that is usual in an ICHG properties. I've never come across it in other hotels. Received a complimentary newspaper on the first morning - I assumed because I was a Priority Club Rewards member - but never received one after that! Unfortunately housekeeping did not replenish the complimentary toiletries in the bathroom nor did they fold our towels up for our re-use. We left them hanging on the hooks provided and that is where they stayed. Also, on one occasion the bed was not made - though I do straighten up the bedding so it might have been a genuine oversight. The buffet breakfast was average and strangely did not include danish pastries which really are standard fare. I did query this with the staff on duty who said they sometimes had danishes but not at the moment - whether this was due to the temporary nature of the restaurant I'm not sure. Service in the restaurant was patchy. The first morning we could have walked out without paying the check as no-one was paying us any attention whatsoever. Having been seated and offered juice/coffee we were then totally ignored and dishes were not cleared when we had finished with them. The service was better other days and on our final morning the service was excellent - though this might have been because there were about five staff and only us and another couple in the restaurant! Nice that Priority Club Rewards members receive a 10% discount on food. The pool area is very good - a good size with plenty of seating and loungers. Unfortunately, the area is surrounded by the walls of the hotel and other buildings so only gets sun for a short period in the middle of the day. So, if like us, you like to sit out and relax in the sunshine when you return from a busy day out, this is not the hotel for that. The fitness centre was excellent. A good size with lots of equipment and it was nice that it had a window looking out over the patio and pool area. The location is fabulous and when the riverwalk access is available it will be great to be able to exit at that level. As with all the downtown hotels, you do have to pay to park though at least there is an option to self-park which is cheaper than valet parking. Overall, an excellent hotel in an excellent location at a good price - let down by patchy service. If I were to visit San Antonio again I would definitely consider staying here again. March 15, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Closed for renovation We knew about the lobby remodeling, so that was probably why we were able to book on 1 days notice. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. I hope there will be something on the Riverwalk once it reopens. They offered 25% off if we booked in the next 6 months. In spite of the remodel & inconvenience it was OK. We just slept there and enjoyed the marvelous Riverwalk. We used our Priority Reward points. March 11, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 Hotel was horrible Let me start by saying if you have something on your website that is wrong than you need to remove it! Hotel is going thru a remodel, website states the fitness room would be open Monday Feb 25 and it was not (did not open for the entire week) the hotel even had signs telling customers where the workout room was. If it’s not open than take the signs down. I base my hotels on workout rooms and restaurants. Your restaurant was horrible, you make a conference room the restaurant and bar that was horrible. Breakfast was the worst food I have ever had, it was cold and just horrible and yet you continue to charge your customers full price for this service. Dinner was just as bad as breakfast, one evening I sat in the make shift restaurant for an hour and I was the only one in there waiting for my salad with chicken and it never came. When I asked the staff they informed me the kitchen was extremely backed up with room service. At this point i got up and told them they could bring it to my room. I will not be staying in this hotel ever again and I have alot of work that I will be doing in the area of this hotel. Extremely disappointed March 6, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Treated LIke a King This was my firs time to stay at Holiday Inn using my Priority Club Rewards points. Was I ever SURPRISED!!! The staff treated my wife and I like royality. We were given an upgrade to a VERY NICE two room suite and all of this didn't cost us a dime. The hotel is undergoing renovation but it was only a minor inconvenience. Enjoyed the close proximity to the River Walk and the great view from the balcony. I recommend everyone join the IHG Priority Club Rewards. Can't wait until my next stay at Holiday Inn. March 6, 2013
