Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Had a great time My son and I enjoyed our stay, and will stay here again next time. Thank you April 20, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, comfortable, and excellent service I stayed for 2 wks while on military duty and loved my stay at this hotel. The hotel and my room were always kept clean. Customer Service and housekeeping personnel were very accommodating. There was a small refrigerator in my room, which was very convenient and parking was never an issue. The cafe was a little on the expensive side, but there are so many restaurants in the vacinity, it wasn't an issue. I will definitely stay here again in the near future! I highly recommend staying at this hotel. April 17, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Just what we expected... Positives: The room was clean and the staff was courteous and helpful. We wanted a fresh seafood meal within walking distance and the concierge told us about a hole in the wall place a couple blocks away on the wharf called Mitch's Seafood on Scott Street. We had their fish stew which was great. I appreciated the lack of the inroom ac/heat units that are so ridiculously loud and blow air on the bed nearest the unit - we had one of those the night before in Pasadena's Holiday Inn Express. Negatives: There was very limited parking and a total lack of counter space in the bathroom - there literally is no place to put a toilet kit. I also would have loved to have been able to grab a quick breakfast of muffin/juice/coffee type of thing but the only option was a sit down meal which would have taken too much time. The bathroom light switch was hooked up to the fan which was loud so it was tricky using the facilities in the middle of the night without waking everyone else. It was crowded and we were on the ground floor next to the parking lot - lots of car noise right outside our window. April 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Room We have stayed at this property before and have been happy with this place. Down side is parking can be very tricky if you come back to hotel late in the evening. We had to park on the other side of Point Loma Cafe, which I did not feel comfortable doing but was told that there were security patrols on the grounds, which included the cafe. April 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Older Hotel / Good for the right price Older hotel, a few miles from downtown on North Harbor Drive. Clean. Staff good. No views. Nothing interesting in walking distance. Three miles from interstate highway, about 6 - 8 miles from Balboa Park (Zoo). About 15 miles from La Jolla cove. Rooms may not be ready at published check in time. Building a new lobby and additional rooms. Really nice Von's & good Trader Joe's a mile away for grocery shopping. Cut way back on Priority Club Platinum benefits. No free breakfast for platinum. No concierge lounge. Do offer a bottle of water, 2 cookies, and 2 mints upon arrival. Recommend if offering a low price through Entertainment Book (or similar) rates as a place to sleep then leave early to see all that San Diego has to offer and return late. Stay elsewhere if you are looking for hotel with water views, etc. April 15, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and reasonably priced The positives - Mainly this was a comfortable place to stay. It has a good location and was a good value. The room was a nice size and the shower had good water pressure. The bed was comfortable. The heating/air was on a thermostat which is much more comfortable than those noisy units cheap hotels have in the rooms. The negatives - the pillows were too thick and hard and when I requested softer pillows they were smaller but just as thick and hard. Also we requested a quiet room but although we made our reservations around a month ahead of time they didn't save us one. We were all the way in the back facing a road that was really noisy in the morning so forget sleeping late, but it was quiet at night. There was a nice patio but you couldn't keep the door open to get fresh air because there was no screen door. The wifi was constantly losing it's connection. It wouldn't stay on long enough to load a page or send an email. I talked to their internet provider who after a long time on the phone was able to get it stable the first night. The second night it was bad again. All in all, I'd stay there again but bring my own pillow and my own wifi. April 12, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by One guest's opinion Clean, comfortable rooms. Great value for the price. Nice that there is a place on the grounds to eat and drink. Great location. April 10, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by The worst hotel I have ever stayed at......... I will not recommend this hotel to anyone and will never stay here again. The price is to high for the quality, I did not get the room I reserved, the food was horrible, the quality of the room awful. When they say complimentary breakfast (not true). What I paid, I should have received and I did not. This is not a family friendly hotel, I hade 4 children with me and they gave me one coupon for breakfast and I had to pay for the rest and the food i so not worth it. I am very disappointed with this hotel and will never stay here or in any Holiday Inn, not to mention that there was no parking available.....Horrible and very disappointed, I will have to take my business to another chain. Disappointed, very disappointed. April 10, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by holiday inn at the bay we bought deltaairlines package deal and with this deal we expected better room. Our room is facing the parking lot with a stair entrance.(felt unsafe) we can hear people noise from around us specially neighbor . April 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel - Need Staff @ Front End We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel; it is located in a very convenient part of the city; close to amazing waterfront restaurants/board walk. Very pleasant setting and comfortable rooms. The one frustration is that the young man at the checkin was lost in his computer every time we approached him. He was pleasantly distracted. he needs to be trained to make eye contact and pay attention to the client; after all his job does depend on it - obviously a lesson he needs to learn. April 8, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Practical location with friendly staff Stayed two weeks in March 2013. Hotel is close to the airport, close to Sunset beach and not too far from down town San Diego. Nice pool area and good maintained facilities. My room and the fridge were small. No microwave, Central AC was quiete noisy. Big central outside AC generator was making a lot of noise in the first room, but on request friendly staff gave me another room immediately! Hotel is very busy already in March and there is a lack of parking space, espacially in the evening it is impossible to get one close to the hotel. Otherwise they got a good pizza place and other restaurants in walking distince. Actually I expected more for the amount of money, but seems the whole area is quite expensive. April 8, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hot Tub The hot tub was in very poor shape. It was dirty and cloudy and not moving the water very well. Non working jets! The room was clean and comfortable. April 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful We stayed here for a few nights while enjoying some of the San Diego attractions and found it to be far enough away to be a quiet retreat, yet close enough that it didn't pose a travel issue. The rooms were clean and comfortable and parking was not an issue. The front desk attendants were on top of their game and I will definitely stay here again when I return! April 3, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn Bayside Great location next to the harbor. Inadequate parking. Very slow internet access. Wash room has malfunctioning appliances. Construction going on at the site. Old hotel with many broken items in the room. Overall, not worth the visit. Stay away. April 1, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Parking was limited and elevators were confusing It was my 1st time staying at the Bayside. I received poor instructions on the parking and had to park on the opposite side of the property because I arrived at 10 PM. I received even poorer instructions about getting to my room on the top floor (5th). I used the front elevator, but it doesn't grant access to the back half of the bldg (i.e guest rooms on that floor#. This should of been pointed out when I checked in. After going up and down in both front elevators, w/all my luggage I figured out to try the middle elevator that was half way back in the building. The signage was poor. When I made it to my room #i.e. last one at the back of the bldg on the top floor) my key didn't work. I called from my cell to the front desk and they said they would send a new one up with the Security Guard. Ten minutes later he showed up. I guess he went around and around on the front elevators too. He let me in and gave me two new keys. The elevators were slow and the middle one lands hard on the bottom floor. Some of the guests jumped when I rode with them over the next two days. On Day 2 someone else's bill was slid under my door from the 4th floor. The Elliptical Exercise Machine, in the Fitness Room needs serious maintence. The back legs rub so much that it loud with metal rubbing on metal. The nickname on this machine should be "Sparky". The WIFi in my room was the Walking Dead @ 11 mps with no where for me to plug in my network cable. As a Platinum member, I've seen a few Holiday Inns and I was disappointed with this one. April 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great place This hotel is a great Holiday inn with beautiful features, the only downside is the price is way too high, and they defiantly should offer a continental breakfast. other than these two downfalls its a beautiful place with great upkeep. March 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Too bad about the Bed! Stayed at this property for a training class, so utilized nearly every feature...I enjoyed my room...everything was great EXCEPT THE BED! From booking the reservation to requesting/receiving an electronic receipt for my travel voucher everything went very well. While there, I witnessed the transformation of the lobby walls in their rear tower, and the workers were professional, clean, and diligent....stripped walls to furniture/plant placement, polished finish in four days - beautiful and inviting area. The restraunt staff and food were all exceptional. I was able to relax by the pool for several hours the last day there. Parking was ample and safe. Meeting rooms were well maintained and secure. The hotel staff were all very friendly, helpful, and I even met one friendly, courteous man in the elevator delivering food that had worked at this property over 20 years. It's close proximity to the airport and several military facilities is not apparent in the solitude in the rooms, wasn't awakened by even one airplane, and meeting rooms were quiet all day. All rooms were spacious and well maintained. There are MANY fine eating establishments within a decent distance, grocery as well. NOW, for the bed, that king sized bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have slept in ANYWHERE, and I've stayed at many properties, including several Holiday Inns/Express. Overall, I would stay here again in a heartbeat! March 29, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfy Pillows and Great Staff Everything was wonderful! The staff were great and the shuttle service was speedy. My only complaints are: 1. There is no microwave in the rooms, so I ate half of my food cold. 2. The workers cleaned and did yard work EARLY in the morning, which woke me up (and I am NOT a morning person at all). March 27, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by No t.v.! I arrived late at night from Eastern time and just wanted to watch a little t.v. to unwind and get to sleep. And then to plan to get the local weather and traffic reports in the morning before I headed out. Problem: the t.v. did not work! How can that not be checked prior to arrival of a new guest? Staff did offer to move me, but to "the tower," which was quite a far distance and not acceptable. Hotel did provide me with 3,000 points for the trouble, but that is a paltry amount. Maybe 1/2 of the value of the stay would've achieved customer satisfaction. March 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Stay This is our 4th time to stay here. We love it! Front desk staff was pleasent and friendly. The kids loved the heated pool, shuffle board and pool table. We were dissapointed the putting green was closed for maintanance. It would have been nice to have read that on hotel website. We stayed in a room by the pool, first level, it was very clean. The beds were very comfortable, but pillows were lumpy. The bathroom and closet are very small but functional. One night, teens were very loud in the hot tub. We called the front desk and was told the pool is open till 10 or 11 (can't remember) but we'll try and quiet them down. Staff did get them to be quieter but if you have young children, like we do, don't stay by the pool. The kids eat free breakfast was great! Food was good. Location is the BEST!! Close to our fav seafood restaurant, Pt. Loma Seafood. Close to Sea World, Old Town, Midway. Love this place!!! Will stay here everytime we come to SD! March 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great omelette, ugly hallways, needs more parking Room service from the Cafe was outstanding. One of the best omelettes I have ever tasted. The hallway on the second floor needs some redecorating. The doors look like entrances to prison cells. Although this seems cosmetic in nature, it actually results in an atmosphere that feels unsafe. I arrived from the airport at 11:30 PM and, when walking down the hall to my room, got the feeling that I had checked into an unsafe location. There is not enough parking for the hotel. I was fortunate to find a spot, but it was the very last one. All this said, the room was comfortable and clean and the experience was good. March 25, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room The bed was very comfortable and the room was large with a view of the harbor and hills. A nice size bathroom with separate vanity March 23, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Could have been Good! The location was exactly where I needed it to be in proximity to my meetings. The room was comfortable and was kept clean and made up every day. My real issues with this hotel is that the front desk staff was not very friendly or pleasant when I checked in, maybe because it was later in the evening around 9:00 p.m., and they barely acknowledged I was even a priority club member. We were hungry so we went to the bar, because the restaurant was closed, and the service and the food were terrible. We were told the food was the same quality as the restaurant and if that was the case it was terrible. Needless to say we never ate at the hotel again. If the service and food were even good this could have been a great hotel to stay at. March 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location My company and I enjoyed the stay. This is the second time we have chosen this location. We come to San Diego twice a year on business trip and stayed at this hotel last year for the very first time. We will be back and have made a group decision to use the hotel next visit. Thank you for making this easy to reserve and accomodating our wide variety of needs with seamless customer service. The hotel staff were very attentive. March 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Room was very noisy My room was in the tower on the fifth floor, which had a nice view. However there were many noisy fans and motors operating throughout the night that impeded a great night's sleep. Fortunately I travel with earplugs, so it didn't keep me from getting rest, however it would have been nice not to have to use them. Overall a great hotel... I would stay there again. March 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and wonderful staff Had a wonderful trip. Comfortable room, excellent service and centrally located. Short walk to fishing harbor and great restaurants. Would highly recommend. March 16, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Never again Room smelled, have to get a new key every time I had to go into my room. No elevator to second floor in our building. Hotel is also construction and had a rude staff. March 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Overnight stay Great value - good location. Good, inexpensive food nearby. Great shuttle service to airport and cruise dock - driver was so helpful and had lots of information for us. March 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not a typical Holiday Inn I have stayed at this Holiday Inn several times in the past 3 years and have always been happy with the value, food, and staff. It's very convenient to many tourist attractions in San Diego and SPAWAR. The onsite restaurant has exceptional food and service. The front desk staff recognize Priority Club members, and try and fulfill every reasonable request--I really appreciate the free upgrades to rooms with a balcony. P.S. The elliptical machine in the gym needs maintenance. March 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Priority Club Perks Lacking at this Hotel This is a good hotel. Nice enough rooms, beautiful pool area, GREAT breakfast! But as a Priority Club Platinum member the perks are the worst of any Holiday Inn hotel I have stayed at. A bottle of water, package of Grandma's Cookies and a voice message on the phone... ridiculous. That is no way to reward loyalty. March 6, 2013
