Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 The staff warned me "we just want your money" Check in was a disaster. Because we could not immediatley produce a credit card #we were still unloading the car#, the staff refused to even look up our reservation #wich was already long paid#. Their comment was "we just want your money", and we had wait in the queu again. When we made a remark about this, once it was our turn again at the desk, we ware accused of communciting badly. Nice service towards a customer ! On check out, I noticed they charged me an internet connection that was no used. The lady at the desk said she would remove it from the bill. But due to a technical issue, she could not give me an updated receipt. Guess what ; my Amex card was charged for it. They made up to their promise "we just want your money". This was the worst staff we met during our 3 weeks tour. August 31, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay for a night in the city My wife and I were looking for a place relatively close to city hall the night before getting married. They put us in a room with a beautiful view of the city. The room was plenty comfortable. We enjoyed breakfast in the hotel and really enjoyed the food. The location was a great location with lots of places in the surrounding area. We even took a dip in the pool at night which was great. Living in the east bay we don't often stay a night in the city, but if we do again, we will certainly come back to this location. Not to mention when we said we were getting married, the front desk gave us a nice corner room and complimentary drink passes. August 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome view if you get the right room I got room 2501 on 25th floor and it was a spectacular view of the city from there - all the way till Alcatraz. The service was amazing. Jenny (a front desk lady) was very friendly and recognized my Platinum status. I was a but worried initially as its close to Tenderlion district and I was asked to avoid this place due to it being rough - but I found no influence of this at all. The parallel street behind the hotel is filled with restaurants which serve very lovely food at very economical price. Try 'Toast' restaurant for breakfast. August 28, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Really People! This was my second and last time staying here. I was greeted by an awesome afternoon staff who had everything moving smoothly... (we'll just skip to the bad part) after finishing up a work related project i went to sleep. I woke early in the morning to take a shower and find... a used bar of soap with hair on it.. needless to say i skipped the the shower. Really... really... how do you miss a bar of soap in the shower? I choose not to call downstairs and ask for another room or anything of the sort. Instead i choose to wait until they asked me the check out question they always ask "How was your stay with us" alas the question never came. The staff member was more concerned that because i was going to eat breakfast she could not close the room account just yet. I waited for the standard company email to ask about my stay and when that never arrived i contacted the corporate office who then forwarded my lengthy to the SF hotel and said some one would contact me... to this day i have heard nothing from them... this tells me that they don't value me or my business. Which is ok because now i know the level of room cleanliness and that properly billing my breakfast to prevent cashier errors is more important then will i come back. O'well on to the next one. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice room irritable staff Our room was nicer than I expected. Beds were comfortable and we had a fantastic view. We had a little trouble upon check-in. Our key didn't work and we had to come back twice, which was fine but the guy at the desk seemed annoyed and condescending instead of apologetic. Another staff member was speaking in an loud annoyed tone across the lobby to a guest who did not follow his instruction properly. Maybe it's just a San Francisco thing, but since we're giving them our money I think they ought to be trained to put their disdain for us aside for the duration of their shift. August 27, 2013

This was a family vacation and it was great to be just around the corner from a cable car stop and the city bus. We didn't eat in the hotel, but there are several good restaurants, bagel and donut shops in walking distance. We liked the option to not have linens changed everyday, but that meant damp towels for the next shower. August 25, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Staff in general should be more attentive to their job We arrived after 9:00 pm and the first room assigned was occupied already by another guest (not present at the moment we walked in the room) with all his personal belongings at sight. The lady at the front desk was gentle and fast to solve the issue, but worried us because a fail in the system could let of having someone stepping in the middle of the night in our room, not very relaxing. The front desk staff in the morning needs a lesson of courtesy and good manners, very rude. Rooms are great, clean (the second unoccupied one) and full of amenities. Hotel in really good location in the city. Value is average compared to other Hotels in the area with similar Tripadvisor rating. August 23, 2013

Transportation was easily accesible; for example, the cable cars right on the side of hotel to downtown and to the fisherman warf, bus service across from hotel. In the gift shop you can buy a Muni pass to use all buses, cable cars, etc... Had a great time in this beautiful city; however, dress warm it gets chilly at night. August 21, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice room and great location Nice, comfortable room w/ good views of downtown; very convenient location in center of city, and great access to California St trolley line and main roadways. Parking in hotel garage is not cheap, but is safe and convenient (easy to get in and out as often as you need to). Beds were comfortable, fridge worked well and the bathroom was clean, w/ a good, strong shower. Hotel staff were a little slow to respond to a couple of requests regarding extra blankets, but we got them eventually. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel. August 19, 2013

The rooms have been newly remodeled and the staff and service are the best. You cannot beat the rooms, service, location or price! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Location and Experience Traveling as a family we picked the Golden Gateway Holiday Inn for its location, amenities, and price. Location was great; able to hop on the cable car or the bus within one block of the hotel. Room was very nice, we were on the 20th floor and had a great view of the city. While bathroom was not huge, for a San Francisco hotel it was a good size and had a lot of counter space for toiletries. Also liked having a refrigerator and a safe in the room. The only thing that left us disappointed was laundry. With kids (and flying) I specifically choose this hotel because it advertised self-laundry service. I also packed accordingly thinking I would be able to do laundry twice during our stay of five days. Turns out laundry is one washer and dryer for the whole hotel (and this is a large hotel). Every time I tried to do laundry (7am; 4pm; 9pm; midnight...) there was always at least two people in line waiting for the machine. Thankfully we found a laundromat within a few blocks of the hotel, if not we would have run out of clothes. I know now not just to check the website to see if laundry is available, but to call and ask how many machines they have. August 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and clean. Great cable car link. We enjoyed four nights here having flown in from London. We had a lovely spacious room and found all the staff really helpful. We liked the fact the hotel was slightly off the regular tourist track. Just 10/15 minute stroll from Union Square - depending on how much hill you wanted to walk up! Also really close to the lesser used cable car route up to Nob Hill - which made accessing Fisherman's Wharf or Union Square really easy. August 7, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Room 2605 While it may seem like a wonderful idea to be roomed on the top floor of this hotel, Room 2605 makes you wish you were not. I've stayed in multiple rooms at this hotel and not all are created equal. Room 2605 has shower water pressure issues, it has a toilet with a nearly broken handle, and loud neighbors. This hotel is a good value, however, hopefully you'll get a room in working condition. August 7, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A very nice Hotel I had a generally good experience at this hotel. It was my first time in this Holiday Inn, I found the location convenient, the staff for the most part friendly and knowledgeable, and the room, although quite small, was well appointed and very comfortable. The bed was great, and on the upper floors the views spectacular. My only real issue, which turned into an almost comic farce, was the malfunctioning garage. They charge you $40 to park your car in their garage, with no efficient valet parking service, just self park. They issue tickets to get in and out of the garage, and these tickets very easily get fouled up and can't be used. I had to get the people behind me to back up, then back up myself, park the car, lock it, go in to the hotel to get the parking ticket reissued and try it again. This happened three times in a row, and the folks at the front desk didn't seem particularly concerned. They kept telling me no problem, it'll work. Well, it didn't work and after 45 minutes and three complete rounds of reparking and coming back for new ticket, I told them I would block the garage until someone came out with me and opened the gate, which they reluctantly did, proclaiming all the way that the the gate was working fine. This forth time the ticket still didn't work, so they opened it manually and walked away as if I had simply been an inconvenience to them. That was a little sloppy, I have to say. Otherwise, not a bad hotel at all. August 4, 2013

The disappointments were tolerable but inconvenient. Coffee maker did not work. they came to fix but still didn't work (yes, we knew how to use it.. Keys stopped working on third day. In room safe did not work. We did not report. Room 2401. Room was excellent. Complimentary drink very nice touch and a cognac miniature was very nice too. August 2, 2013

I would not recommend this hotel, very expensive, food outragously expensive, housekeeping services were bare to none.... Except for the dining room: Opened late: 6:45, 15 mins matters when you are running to eat and work. Ate breakfast, had the Huevos Rancheros, beans were horribly bland and the tortillas were straight from the package (tip: heat your tortillas or something people). Whoever worked the dicount on the beans definately got their monies worth. Idea: donate the beans where they can use them as brick cement in 3rd world countries. I did not finish my meal. Told my waiter that the food was not good, he seemed pretty overwhelmed and moved on. Saw the hotel guarantee on the elevator, something about "best food ever or your money back," thought this was laughable. Told my experience to the front desk where I sat for 15 mins arguing my case until the charge was removed. Front desk didn't know the "great food" policy posted on the elevator 10 feet away. All that said, this is going to become my companies favored hotel for travel because of a deal and I'm not bothered by it. I have had good experiences with the staff except for the 1 issue above. I will simply avoid the food. I hope its not included with our package because I'm not sure free is worth the price. August 1, 2013

Well the Holiday Inn Golden Gate had a lot to live up to seeing that we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Belmont, CA a couple weekends before, and that hotel was amazing. The Holiday Inn Golden Gate met most of our expectations, and was nice overall. I’ll start with the Pro’s. We parked in the Hotel Garage, and went up the elevator right to the Lobby, which was convenient. The lobby was beautiful and I heard they’re even planning a renovation for improvements. Check-in was easy and the staff was very pleasant. As we made our way up to our 15th floor room, the hallways and common areas were very clean and decorated nicely. Our room was very clean, and had modern décor. Refrigerator yes, microwave no. We had a great view of the city from our windows. Our beds were comfortable, and again the cleanliness of the room was a big turn-on for my family. We had dinner in the Restaurant downstairs and it was delicious, and the restaurant staff was very attentive. I will say that our meal was a bit on the expensive side. We had a great night sleep and checkout was a breeze. Now for the Con’s. During check-in I was reminded about the $40.00 parking fee, which killed the value of the room cost for us, but again, it was convenient parking. The other thing that was troublesome for us was the fact that the door to the 3rd floor parking was not working correctly. Normally guests would have to use their magnetic strip parking key to exit the hotel to the garage, but it never worked once for us. I kept being told that it was fixed, or they were going to fix it. Fortunately, as we were trying to exit to the garage other guests were coming in, and would open the door, without needing a magnetic key. This was a very odd set-up anyway. Why would you need a key to get out to the garage, but be able to walk right in to the hotel from the garage? Overall a nice hotel and I might stay there again if I was in that specific area of the city. July 26, 2013
