Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tom726 clean, safe and close to Union College
My overall stay was nice. The placement of the elevators leave a lot to be desired. I've stayed here twice in one year and both times I had issues with my room key. Last year, I entered a room that already was occupied . Luckily, no one was in the room at that particular time. This year, my keys didn't work after lugging luggage across the complex to the poorly located elevators and then walking down the hall with my luggage. In both cases, the front desk staff were very gracious and resolved the issue immediately. The other negative is the lack of a good place to eat nearby. The hotel restaurant has a limited menu and is only open to 9pm. That's too early a time to close. Restaurant choices near the hotel are few.
Room was clean, quiet (except for the beeping elevator nearby) and, as mentioned, the front desk staff were very helpful with questions I had.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by clutz sleep quality -- value
Bed is comfortable but noise from corridor is disturbing. Finally turned on the fan which helped significantly. Corridor noise is not your fault, but people forget that there are others trying to sleep in the rooms they pass.
It seems that each time I stay the price goes up, even from month to month. But I do appreciate the breakfast coupon.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bill613 Nice hotel; good location
I was visiting the area to go to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, so I stayed at a Holiday Inn near there for a couple nights. I flew out of Albany, so I stayed in Schenectady the night before my flight, as the hotel is close to the Albany airport, so for flights to Albany the hotel location is very convenient. The hotel was also convenient to visit downtown Schenectady and Union College.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Unionmom Absolutely meets our needs
Our son attends Union College and for the past 4 years we stay at the Holiday Inn in Schenectady. We have always been pleased with the service, the rooms, the beds, the cleanliness, the lobby and restaurant for breakfast. There was one problem with this past stay. The Pay per View and the HBO were not working. The TV programs that were available were not meeting our needs. And as we do spend a lot of time in the room, this was definitely a bummer.

The staff members at this hotel were great - courteous and responsive. But we had a lot of problems while we were there which made our stay less pleasant than it could have been. One of the bedside lamps was broken and had to be replaced as soon as we got into our room - this should have been reported by housekeeping and taken care of in between customers. Our room keys didn't work properly until our last day there - I had to go back to the front desk 3 times to get my keys redone. And, our room was arranged in such a way that the air conditioner blew right onto the bed - not very good for sleeping. A little attention to detail and some thought toward furniture placement could have made all the difference.

We stayed for two nights in October and had a wonderful experience. The staff - from the check in clerk to the room maintenance folks to the night shift - were incredibly friendly and courteous. We commented several times on how nice everyone was at the Hotel. The room was great and the value better.

First floor looks great, get into the room areas and dark and dirty. TV did not work, then saw printed sign that said if TV does not work, call downstairs to have it "reset". The phone did not work.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ITGuy NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE TO CARS...
The huge sign in the parking lot should have been a clue. Guess what? This hotel is in a bad neighborhood, and cars ARE broken into - mine was! The hotel doesn't see fit to employ a security patrol or employ cameras which might deter theft in the parking lot.
Thankfully I had removed almost everything, and only lost an iPod.
Also, it was truly an awful idea to place a platinum rewards member in a room directly outside an elevator, and above a door that goes WHOOSH WHOOSH all night long.
2/10 would not recommend, will never stay in this hotel again.

We were on the road and stayed for 1 night. The front desk was very attentive and provided excellent service. We were tired from many hours on the road and the service and facility came through with flying colours.

We were in town for a funeral and chose to stay here. I was disappointed in several key areas:
*No free continental breakfast. (at the rate we paid, there should be something.)
*The bar/lounge advertised a "bar menu" until 11pm, but I was told at 9:15pm the kitchen was closed.
*The A/C in our room was right next to the bed and was very loud kicking on and the cold/hot air blew directly on the bed.
The room was large enough for us to put a Pack n' Play for our 2 year old son to sleep in.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by acornstorm Good Hotel near a thriving downtown
This Hotel is in Schenectady near to downtown. It is on the edge of a good/bad line in my opinion but it seemed safe. Walking to Jay Street shops and Proctor Theater is only 3 or 4 blocks. The rooms are older design, meaning smaller than a modern hotel but big enough. Things seemed fairly clean. It should probably get an overall update but serviceable for a couple of nights. Wi-Fi on the 4th floor was terrible. The bar is nice, breakfast was very tasty. Pool location is odd in that the lobby is right there and you are in front of anyone walking by. The hot tub was closed every time I looked. A privacy wall between the walking area and the pool would be nice. Hotel has overflow parking lot in case it's regular lot is full. A convenience store is right next door too.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Jess12 stay was o.k.
Linens were clean. Staff was helpful and friendly. Cons: Tried to take a shower, but the water would not stay hot for more than a few seconds at a time. Price seemed slightly high for value. Pro: finding a smoking room in a state where few smoking hotels exist

We stayed here for a wedding over Labor Day 2 nts.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was okay but the bathroom was a little dirty. We had to call for more towels in the afternoon, since our room was not cleaned by 2pm, at that point we told them not to bother and just to get the towels.
I thought it was a little over priced for having a "special" price for a wedding, and it is not a great area of town. Location was good for the wedding, but town was mostly closed down and abandoned.

Made reservations for a wedding. They had blocked off a section for their guests. My sister and I requested rooms next to each other. We called several times to verify this, and we arrived 11pm at night we were not even on the SAME FLOOR. Soo obviously they are not concerned with GOOD. Customer service. And.... Their response was ya know we can't guarantee it. They should of said we don't care!

When we first checked in we were put in a room that smelled of cig smoke smoking room . I went right back to front desk and the staff switched our room immediately !!! They also gave us a 20% voucher towards a meal in at the restaurant in the hotel. I explained to them they did not have to do that but they insisted. We enjoyed a nice breakfast on Sunday morning before heading home.

The entrance was dirty & needs to be power washed.
The food steak was floating in greasy something and the meat looked freezer burned. Drinks were bad to and the white Russian tasted so; black mold in the shower.
This motel needs a real makeover. The staff were very nice and did the best they could at the desk and restaurant.
We were traveling from NH to PA and we were exhausted .. we were happy to be safe .. beds were great.

Everyone was really nice and very helpful. A maintenance man showed us to the elevator and explained how to run it :). The food at the restaurant was kind of expensive but very good. My only concern was when I inquired about the cost of cab fare to a mall about 12 miles away, I was told by the front desk that it would be between $8 & $10, it ended up being $25. All in all it was a good mini vacation while my husband was at a business conference.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by spark1duh Probably Better than most of the other hotels in Schenectady.
The staff was friendly and helpful on an average scale. However, our room was located directly in front of the front desk allowing them and anyone else walking by to see into our room with ease. I didn't enjoy the lack of privacy nor keeping our windows drawn closed the whole time. I noted this when I opened the lower window to allow a breeze to air out our room. For some reason it seemed very humid and moist the entire stay. Even the bedding seemed damp some how. But as I opened the window one of the staff members across the way shouted and hand signaled somewhat angrily that I should not be opening the windows. I didn't see any signs and wasn't given any instruction from any of the staff prior that windows were not be be opened. Aside from that, the breakfast was lack luster. The portions were decent to good however everything took what a considerable about of time to be prepared for how few people were there. Otherwise a decent experience.

My only issue with this hotel, of which I emailed them about and hope they corrected on their web site was the claim they were 15 minutes from Saratoga Springs....NOT
It's a good 45 minutes through the middle of no where to get from Saratoga to the hotel.
I was going to Saratoga race track and during racing season if you are even lucky to find a room it's $400 and up a night with a two night minimun for weekends, when I saw this and their "announcement" on the web site of being 15 minutes away I booked.
Thank goodness it is summer and I had daylight on my side, would not of wanted to navaigate that in the dark.
Other than that issue evrything was fine, front desk people very nice, Samuels grill nice and food was pretty good too.
