Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by No lifts I had to take the cases up 3 flights of stairs as there was no lift at the hotel. I am elderly as was not warned of this at reception. I was offered a room for sidaabled on the ground floor when I asked about a lift but that room had no bath, olny a shower. There should be a warning that rooom are distant from recption with 3 flights of stairs. July 28, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good but could be better The reception and restaurant staff are very welcoming and quite efficient at the reception. The service in the restaurant is quite slow. The car park is often quite busy with members of the on site health club parking their vehicles there. Guests at the hotel often have to search although a place can usually be found. The rooms are quite comfortable although fairly dark. The mobile telephone signal is particularly woeful and you may need to stand at the front of the hotel to obtain a signal. As with most of the Holiday Inn hotels, there are no sockets close to the bed so bring an extension lead should you require power close to the bed (CPAP Machine). This is a reasonable hotel within the IHG group, okay for a short stay. July 27, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dining Room My only comment would be that a little more attention to detail when serving meals in the dining room. We had the steak and had to ask for vinegar and mustard. Just tiny little niggly things. The staff were very attentive though and food was excellent. July 24, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by overall good but one or two areas need improvement Our stay was good overall and represented reasonable value. However ,the reception staff were a bit abrupt and not particularly helpful. There was no indication from them about the stairs to the room ( no lift as far as we could see ) and no offer to help us with our luggage -we saw a number of guests struggling up the stairs. Also it was meant to be a non smoking room although my wife said she could smell cigarette smoke- the ground outside our room was littered with cigarette butts which does not create a good impression. Finally we do not believe you should add service to the restaurant bill automaically. Service should be at the discretion of the customer. We asked for it to be removed but rewarded our indivdual waiter with a cash tip in recognition of his good service July 21, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by All ok... providing you don't mind a long wait. Hotel excellent in all respects other than tardy service. Have now stayed on three occasions and this is a combined review of all three stays. Not necessarily a reflection on the staff themselves, more a lack of them. On one occasion, I tried for 20 minutes calling reception, then the restaurant, then the operator... all to no avail. ...(Basically anybody that might answer the phone). No joy, so had to walk a long way back to reception, waiting a further 10 minutes, before being able to ask for a remote control for TV. When I inquired to as whether or not there was a problem with receptions phone, the lady simply said - I was with attending to a guest. Personally, you should either have more staff available or the courtesy to politely acknowledge a call and simply state that you shall call back after the guest(s) have been attended to. On another occasion, I had to order room service in person at the restaurant as no one would answer the phone and then had to wait for 30 minutes to order a drink later in the evening as only one person was available to tend to a busy bar. I have stayed multiple times now, and had the same service/response issues each time, meaning that although an IHG platinum member - I would now rather stay at another competitor hotel within the area. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brilliant hotel We stayed here for two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The pancake maker was the icing on the cake. It's a beautiful building. I'm annoyed that I didn't make use of the spa. The restaurant opened a bit too late in the evening (6.30) as we have a 3 year old and so we had to go elsewhere but that's the only negative. There are lots of places to eat nearby so it's hardly a negative really. July 19, 2014

The room was comfortable giving a good night sleep although there is a small amount of road noise with the window open. The breakfast / dinner / bar area is functional and satisfactory for the odd night. July 15, 2014

Roomy car park, pleasant reception area . room dated decor and shabby couch. Bathroom also dated but worked. Breakfast was pricey so ate at Befeater 500 yds up road. July 9, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and quiet room, friendly staff We stayed here for two nights. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome by the duty receptionist. The room was some way and due to shape of hotel a bit of a walk with some steps involved even on the ground floor. This is due to hotel being built into a slope. Although very near the motorway it is very quiet. Room spacious and comfortable. Bathroom bit dated but clean. Had two good nights sleep as shutters make room dark when closed. Breakfast was good/average. Dinner was good with reasonable selection of food and wine. Service was quick but not rushed. On the morning following our first night we would have liked a coffee but told run out of coffee beans. There seemed to be break down in communication between bar staff and reception/management who were unaware . They were rectifying but too late for us! July 9, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by final bill fortunatley i did not leave my card open when checking in, when I came to check out some kind (!) person had charged to my room £38 worth of drinks from the bar after 1.15am, i was tucked up in bed. Strangely enough the reception staff and the bar staff had no record or receipt for these drinks - strange don't you think. July 7, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Breakfast stayed two nights. first mornings breakfast was not great. at 9am we did not expect a shortage of choice, we inquired and were told some things had run out. we have never had this at other holiday inns we have stayed at. however the second morning things were as we expected (back to normal). also shocked to learn wi fi was not free. we stayed a week too early as it is free now. The food was fantastic, service great and room more than comfortable. The kids loved swimming in the hotel pool before dinner. Staff very attentive. Only minor gripe - free wifi please!! Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Shabby and untidy appearance The hotel is in need of refurbishment and looked much the same as when we last visited 25 years ago! The lobby had some untidy advertising paper cubes which looked messy and out of place. The bar staff were inexperienced and did not know the difference between Martini Bianco and Rosso. There was no offer of a porter to take bags to the room despite the fact that my wife and I are obviously not in the spring of youth! The reception staff were only adequately attentive and not as welcoming as one would normally expect. The breakfast which was charged as an extra was poor as already stated. June 25, 2014

The room was very good value for the price we paid and the only reason it has received an overall four rather than five is that although we were on the 'ground floor', because of the design of the hotel there were two flights of stairs to negotiate. Whilst we were able to manage them with our luggage, some people may have struggled. This is just something to be aware of, rather than a criticism. June 17, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ideal base for several of the main attractions in Kent. Made use of reduced online prices to book one the spacious Executive rooms. Spacious reception area. Attentive and pleasant Reception staff. Made use of the leisure facilities such as the pool. The hotel worked well as a base to visit Rochester/Chatham, Dover Castle and Canterbury. Hard to fault overall, though breakfast prices seem to be at the higher end of the spectrum which is a consideration. June 13, 2014
