Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One night visit A very enjoyable stay at a well priced hotel with excellent facilities. Congratulations to Mr Beck on his staff, all excellent. I do not generally like staying away from home - but this was the exception. I will happily recommend. March 25, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Some improvements needed The hotel is really comfortable and spacious. There were two irritating aspects of my stary: 1. There was a constant on/off fairly loud hum from a boiler or some other machine that went on all night 2. The coffee for breakfast was absolutely awful - what a pity to spoil an otherwise good meal March 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Location Great Room Hi we stayed over mothers day weekend had a great time Our only disapointment is the Bar area it is gruby and dingy Due i think to the lighting being wrong for the size of the room. Also the bar furniture is a bit of a miss match. It does not induce you to stay in the bar for a few drinks. That said we have stayed here many times and always been well looked after. March 18, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic room with a sence of grandure I was more than pleasantly suprised at this fantastic building. All so often a hotel is just a practical solution for travelling businessman, but on this occassion I experienced a wow factor. March 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good location and service It was the little touches that made this stay relaxing. Decent breakfast, good toiletries, trouser press, scales even! So much better than the well-known 'bargain basement' hotels nearby. Would certainly stay again when planning a weekend of culture in Sheffield. February 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good hotel but needs double-glazing I had no real problems with this hotel except the noise. The side of the hotel looks out over a dual carriageway, and the windows are old fashioned single-glazed sash windows. There is traffic noise all night, so I would take ear plugs with you. The window was stiff, difficult to open and I don't think closed entirely, which may have added to the noise. There was a very sophisticated LG TV, but the menus were so complex I couldn't navigate them, and although it said that pressing "menu" accessed the hotel services, it didn't. The bed was very comfortable, the room facilities and bathroom were good, and the breakfast was fine. It was a nice building, parking was easy and the atmosphere in the bar was congenial. Despite being a little frustrated with the problems above, I'd still stay there again. February 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Was not disappointed To start with the staff were friendly for example we came back late 1 am and we're hungry. The staff member prepared pizza for us and did so with a smile and friendly chat. Yes the building is old but who wants a new build I loved the vintage look and cannot agree with one of the reviews that it was shabby. The rooms were clean bed very comfortable only issue the rooms can become very warm. The room was small for 2 adults and a child but to be honest we hardly stayed in the room so was not an issue for us but next time will go for family room or two adjourning rooms. Whoever complains about the breakfast cannot be justified this was beyond my expectation I even asked for a poached egg and was not disappointed. To modernise this hotel too much would lose it's appeal for me personally. February 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A nice hotel at a good price Much better than the price might suggest, I had a spa bath executive room, which was excellent. The bar makes a pleasant change from the HI standard, by having a couple of local beers (keg versions) on draught as well as the uninspiring normal Boddingtons, Guinness and lager. February 20, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and relaxed overnight stay Lovely old hotel with laid back feeling. Spacious room and everything we needed. Consistently pleasant and helpful staff. Upgraded under terms of Priority Club platinum membership January 29, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Holiday Inn I have stayed in Without doubt the worst HI I have been to. This property is in dire need of investment. Room squeaked everywhere, the sash windows rattle and are extremely drafty. Very very noisy overlooking the road, no double glazing.. I was so put off I didn't want to eat in the hotel so reverted to a trip to M&S for takeaway food for dinner. All in all a very poor experience and certainly not what I expect from a Holiday Inn. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by There by chance Due too work being done in the holiday inn express where we have stayed before and enjoyed, we were upgraded too the holiday inn, we have no complaints apart from an out of order lift, and we were on the 3rd floor, so after eating our delicious breakfast, and not being as young as we were it was a bit of a nuisance having too walk the stairs. We enjoyed the service, the room and the food! January 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Overall excellent; 1 suggestion We stayed at Xmas just as a b&b staying the days with a son in Sheffield. Everything was very good. Staff were friendly and the room was clean, quiet and spacious. It was also good value for money. I like railways so the Great Central Railway connection was good. I am glad you have kept it unchanged and not HolidayInn-ised. One suggestion. One of us uses a wheelchair and because can walk a bit I carried it up the front steps each time. You DO have a wheelchair side entrance. Why not have it opened by the room key? January 2, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Parking I feel that as a Priority Club Member I should not have to pay for parking at any of the Holiday Inn hotels. December 17, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The downton abbey of the hotel world Stayed for 2 nights. The hotel itself is a bit of a relic but overall clean and tidy inside and the decor suits the building. The room was spacious with a big LCD TV and sitting area. The bathroom was modern and well fitted. We had a 2 double bed room which was the the rear of the building so it was quiet. The downside from our trip was on the first night when I got in bed they had mattress protectors which had a plastic feel as every time you moved it made a rustling noise and made the bed hot and sweaty. I had to remove it from the bed and after that it was way nicer sleep and more comfortable. I can sort of understand why they use them but it's not attractive and doesn't lead to quality sleep. Overall the hotel is good for a Sheffield shopping trip at the right price. December 17, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Efficient check in, good service and comfortable Overall good value for a city centre hotel with the service you would expect. December 8, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by hard to find this hotel was very difficult to find could only see Holiday Inn Express from the road this hotel is further at the back. very nice looking hotel very old, good situation easy to walk to the centre food for breakfast a large choice and a nice dining area function on so couldnt use the main bar. OK room but some residents dont give any thought to other people sleeping at night. that could be anywhere though. overall a good place to stay. dont think i would be back as too difficult to find November 27, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Express next time have stayed at this hotel once before, glad to say the room was much better than last time! breakfast was nice and had a good choice. staff were friendly. not too pleased about not being able to use the main bar facilities as there was a wedding on both nights of our stay (should be told about this when booking) had to use the cocktail bar which is much smaller and there are not a lot of seats! Only mention of PCM was acknowledgement of number during check-in. Usually stay in the Express down the road and will definitely be staying there from now on. November 2, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fine example of the old railway hotels October 2012 This isn't an easy hotel to find on foot, even if you can see it, and its not the Holiday Inn Express on the other side of the road. Bad things, it is in a very untidy end of Sheffield near busy roads, but a lot of hotels have sprung up in this area, so it isn't alone, and the plates were cold at breakfast. Corridors smelt of wet paint which is either a good or a bad thing depending on your viewpoint. I can't fault the rooms, very clean, nice TV and even a choice of soft or firm pillows. The only negative was you have to pay extra for WiFi, why? The staff are very friendly and helpful, so no comment there. Could possible do with a larger residents bar with a few more chairs, as the main bar was occupied by functions on the 2 nights we were there. I would stay again if in Sheffield. October 21, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room Lovely Hotel and very comfortable, but to have a meal here is very expensive for what you get. Booked a meal deal week/end but it was not a good deal. Bed /breakfast would have been better deal. October 19, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly and relaxing One of my favourite hotels. Staff are so helpful and friendly. Hotel placed well just outside city centre. October 18, 2012
