Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for Key Business Meeting I booked the hotel for 9 of us to stay overnight for a business meeting the next day and had set up a dinner in the hotel on that evening. Unfortunately, due to a mix up in central reservations, this was not going to be in a separate room, which we needed for a business discussion. However, once I had explained this to the staff, they sorted out the problem and we had an excellent dinner in a private room, which was just right for our discussions! Well done Holiday Inn Sheffield! A great venue for business and a very nice hotel to boot. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended and would definitely use again when we are in the area October 18, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful hotel Everything about this hotel just oozes quality and a sense of grandeur. Don't take the lift whatever you do, you'll miss the staircase which is just a joy to walk and makes the whole experience reminiscent of Downton Abbey! My only complaint and in fairness, it's not specific to this hotel is that the mattress is just too soft. Not wanting to sound like Goldilocks but you cannot get comfortable because there is just no substance to it. Other than that, it is simply wonderful and we will stay again. October 9, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and good food Overall impression of the hotel was good. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was very good and an excellent selection at breakfast. The only very minor niggle was that my room was too warm but then I have that issue at every hotel I stay at so I don't hold it against the Holiday Inn. I was atleast able to turn the radiator off in my room which is an option that is not always available at other hotels. I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and colleagues. Large modern room, but warm when we were there and no air conditioning. Staff were very helpful, but the hotel was very busy with conferences and a rather noisey wedding on the Saturday night. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad service I booked a room as had business meeting early next morning. I asked for a quiet room. I checked in at about 20.45 and was given an executive room on 3rd floor. At 21.45 when I was already changed for bed loud pounding music started from somewhere outside my room. After 5 minutes I called reception and was told that there was a function. I asked until when and was told to hold. After a couple of minutes the man came back and said 'until midnight'. I asked to be moved. At first I was told there was noweher suitable for me. After I persisted I was offered a lower grade room in the annex on second floor. I had to get dresssed, repack, go down to reception, swap keys and go back up. In the new room I couldn't hear the music but was so wound up that it took a while to drop off. In the morning when I complained to the duty manager he apologised and blamed the check in girl. He said that Hermann Beck the manager would be in touch. 5 days later, he still hasn't. Very poor service and I'm a Platinum member who they are meant to make even more of an effort to please. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by An all time favourite hotel I stay at this hotel often and never tire of it. The staff are very friendly - and genuinely helpful. The rooms, like the whole hotel, have real character and each room is different. The restaurant meals are very good, not least the home made soups. The hotel is on Victoria Station Road, a raised road (which crosses over Derek Dooley Way) - so look up. The postcode is S4 7YE and Satnav will find it easily if you approach from the M1 Jct 33 (or Jct 34). September 27, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Adequate for overnight stay The Royal Victoria Holiday Inn Sheffield is a mixture of the old and new. There are completely re-furbished rooms in a newer section but we were given one in the original building. The room especially the bed was comfortable but the furnishings and overall atmosphere were dated and a bit gloomy. In contrast, the bathroom was excellent (small) but with good quality shower, lots of hot water and powerful shower. Staff all very helpful and friendly, so ok for an overnight stay September 24, 2014

This clearly had never been cleaned. The location is also very good. All be it a bit tricky to find out how to get up to the hotel by foot! September 23, 2014

The windows are traditional sliding sash without double glazing and unfortunately i am not used to traffic noise at home. Apart from that, everything else was excellent. September 12, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Outdated and not what I'd call executive We were attending a wedding at the hotel and although it is an impressive building with great potential it needs a complete overhaul inside as quite tired. We had booked an executive room as based on pictures was more modern but was disappointed as design was not consistent or particularly modern (mismatched fabrics and random old paintings above plasma TV etc) but bathroom was nice and new. Room was fairly clean on the surface but could do with a deep clean as lots of dust on things like fan and window frames. The windows are very old and did not close fully (jammed about an inch from top and although we mentioned it to staff nothing was done) so I hardly slept (admittedly I'm a light sleeper but don't expect that when paying for a hotel) as there is a constant noise of traffic and comings and goings from hotel. Staff were pleasant but given I went away tired was a bit disappointed overall. September 11, 2014

Breakfast and drinks were fine, lovely surroundings and decoration. Close to centre with ample parking if needed. On the whole an enjoyable stay and I will certainly return. September 10, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Gluten and dairy free options available I contacted the head chef Garin prior to arrival, Garin was very reassuring with regard to my dietary requirements gluten and dairy free. On arrival at dinner he was able to highlight on the menu all the options I could have and I was able to have a choice of two different types of gluten free rolls. At breakfast I was served with two choices of gluten free cereals (Which I assume was purchased specially for my arrival) with soya milk. There was dairy free spread , choc muffins and a choc brownie available as well as gluten free rolls. I asked for my bacon to be cooked separate and this arrived very timely freshly cooked. Thank you for such great service and giving the reassurance needed for a free from customer! September 5, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Staff experiences dear Sir/madam, on staying several times at this hotel and although it's not the best or cleanest that I've stayed at but I do enjoy the location the grandeur of the hotel and most importantly that you have such a friendly staff member in Bev. I have to once again say what a pleasure it has been coming down in the morning to be welcomed into the breakfast room by Bev, she is an amazingly happy and friendly person and makes the effort to speak to all your guests. She is a credit to IHG and your hotel in Sheffield. I would also like to add that she to me is like an ambassador for the hotel and other staff members could learn so much from her in the happy stakes and how to deal with guests. it's all about making guests feel special and Bev does that in abundance. Room was just lovely clean with everything one need in a hotel room. It was central and just a short drive from city centre. We went out for dinner in Leopold Square. It was a short drive from the hotel. Over all we had quite a pleasant stay. August 23, 2014

Room was a good size, nicely equipped and decorated - great bathroom. Good variety of drinks at the bar and reasonable prices for this class of hotel. Really good and varied breakfast buffet. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by You can almost feel the history You drive past the concrete box hotels stacked high on the old station approach road, but then you see the proud Royal Victoria in front of you on the left. It was built as a station hotel in the mid 1800's when building wasn't done at the cheapest and nastiest level possible as it is nowadays. You park on what was Platform 1 of the old Great Central Railway Victoria station. As you go in the hotel, if you think the reception area is impressive, ask to be shown the Grand Ball Room and the dining room. The ceilings are at least 30 feet tall, and have sculpted and finely painted decor. The landings are wide with impressive staircases sweeping up to them (there is of course a lift, but just try the stairways). The restaurant area is delightful and you can almost feel the history of the generations of elegant travelers who have gone before. The ground floor boasts pictures of the hotel when a young future queen visited and pictures of magnificent old steam trains waiting at the platforms to whisk the travelers north or south to their destinations. If you prefer the functionality of a new build concrete box hotel room then that's fine. But if you want to feel a part of history and marvel at the way things used to be, stay at the Royal Victoria. Perhaps you'll get a sense of times past as I did. I only wish I could have stayed longer.... August 16, 2014
