The hotel itself is beautiful, really nice building and the staff I came across were lovely but there was a hiccup on my bill when I was checking out which took a while to be rectified, eventually it was and I paid but no apology was given. Our room didn't have breakfast but we were allowed to add it to our bill, but when my friend came down and wanted to add breakfast to her room she was told she wasn't allowed..? I would stay again though!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jules16 Building with character
My husband and I have stayed here twice and enjoyed it. The breakfasts are excellent, also the staff who are very helpful. The room on our second visit was not as big but we did get it from an offer on 'Groupon' so at reduced rate. Its an old building with lots of character and would stay again. I will keep looking for the offers as they are well worth it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mumofmonkeys Friendly and helpful staff made for a comfortable stay
We stayed here for a long weekend and found the hotel to be clean and comfortable. The staff were very accommodating. Our daughter had an ear infection while we were there and we needed a few bits for her. The following day one of the receptionists was thoughtful enough to ask after her. We'd definitely stay here again.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Andrew76sd Lovely old hotel let down by terrible food
Great old hotel building, rooms, parking etc are all good. Reception staff are great.
The food is not good though, particularly the breakfast. I stay here quite often with work, and am giving up. The breakfast is simply awful, poor quality food, even the cold selection is bad. No granola, no berries etc and a miserable selection of yoghurt. There is no comparison with Holiday Inn Hull or Jesmond (Newcastle) in terms of food quality.
Last week when I went for breakfast there was no fried egg, no scrambled egg, no orange juice, no white bread. I'm sure they would have got more if I asked but who has time to wait?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JamesyP What a great stay
I was recommended this hotel by a colleague who had stayed a week or so before - what a great recommendation! From the welcomes at the desk, the standard and cleanliness of the room and perfect breakfast offering (in a lovely dining room) all round I was very impressed.
This hotel will be my first choice when I next need to stay over in Sheffield.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Zo68 Love this hotel!
Staff coped well considering they had a VERY full hotel with karate champs; swimming teams, a 50th going on over the weekend - 11/10 for them.
My only little niggles, was have stayed here a few times, and standard twin rooms are far bigger than the double execitive, which I paid more for.
Getting to the hotel confuses me everytime, however this is down to the council changing road plans; signage etc...

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kiwi338 Quiet and charming ... Victorian-era quaint
An interesting old hotel that has been updated successfully without losing its old-world charm. Staff were obliging and professional; food was good; the room was spacious and comfortable. Mattresses were showing some age, but that is the only minor complaint.
Overall, a pleasant stay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tracsouth Great room and excellent food
First stay and would definitely return! Used the hotel as an overnight stay for my son's swimming gala at Ponds Forge. Beautiful building and lovely interior! Booked the room online and didn't realise breakfast wasn't included. Not a problem as we paid after breakfast on the way out to the pool. However, we realised in consulting with fellow swim club members that they had paid at reduced rate for breakfast (i.e. £9.50 rather than £12.50). We queried this on our return to the hotel to collect our car. We were told that had we pre booked breakfast the previous evening, we would have paid the £9.50 rate. At no point during check in , were we offered this option! Surely the check in staff could have mentioned this rather than simply informing us what hours breakfast was actually served. Apparently our children should have also eaten at a reduced rate in the bar, again we were not informed of this. Disappointing!!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Crippen Great room, super restaurant
First stay here and it will not be the last. Wonderful old building , large comfortable room and excellent restaurant.. So different from run-of-the-mill modern hotels and a real pleasure to stay here.
Only negative is that I never approve when an hotel forces a customer to pay for the privilege of parking their car on their own private car park. Why not make it free, and add £5 to the room rate?

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JayJayJayJay All good but very hot room
Stayed two nights, everything was to a very good standard but the room was incredibly warm for the second night complained and had to sign a disclaimer so they could unscrew the catches on the window which made a huge difference. Second nights sleep was much more pleasent.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by shippers Great period hotel
Being a business man that stays in lots of hotels I was pleasantly surprised with my stay at the Holiday In Sheffield. I booked on the internet and so was expecting a modern corporate and soulless place however it turned out to be a magnificent old Victorian railway hotel, the station apparently has long since been relocated. The inside still retains its original architectural glories too. lovely high ceilings, paneling, old mahogany bars and large brass chandeliers. My room was spacious, with a large desk ideal for spreading out and working and very pleasantly decorated in a suitably period design. the bathroom was a treat modern with a big bath for a long soak. I couldn't be bothered walking into town and so ate in the hotel restaurant and again I was surprised. I had a really tasty roast duck with seasonal veg and I was so glad I gave Nando's a miss.
Staff were very courteous and attentive and all in all I would recommend this lovely old fashioned Hotel to anyone. Its not you average Holiday Inn.

We stayed one night whilst in Sheffield dropping our Son at University. Gorgeous building full of old features and charm. Room very comfortable with all conveniences, although was quite warm. (No air con!) Buffet breakfast was fabulous, loads of choice and very tasty.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mel65 Everything was as expected, just excellent
We use this hotel roughly 3 times per year as a base for swimming gala's. I usually book anything from 3 to 8 rooms each time.
The Holiday Inn is ideally situated for all amenities ie swimming at ponds forge, shopping and easily within walking distance to the tram network,
Each time we visit ALL our guests comment on how friendly & obliging the staff are both in the restaraunt & front desk.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rich844 Very comfortable historic hotel. Great breakfast
My wife and I have stayed at this hotel a number of times over the years, enjoying it's historic character, comfort and service. The rooms are spacious, well equipped and clean and the two double bedded rooms particularly suitable for a family. The superb buffet breakfast is hard to beat with excellent service. My only slight gripe is having to pay as a resident to use the spacious hotel car park, but other than that, I would recommend this hotel without question.

Our family room was fine, comfortable and the overall hotel service more than adequate. I would stay there again any time. Only problem was that our satnav failed to find the hotel! In the end, we just used a map and at least we know where it is now.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EPMzzzz Very friendly welcome, relaxing stay and great breakfast
Staying at this excellent hotel every week for work makes being away from home much more bearable.
Great staff, friendly smiling faces and all have good humour.
Very comfortable rooms all round, the little extras, such as bottle of water and flapjack bar, are a nice touch.
Breakfast is always well prepared and served on time.
Many thanks again and well done to the whole team at HI Royal Victoria.

Good location for city centre, great shower ... But overall the room and general hotel is tired and needs updating. Beds were sagging in the middle and noisy, when I moved the bed away from the wall slightly the headboard fell off the wall!!!
The tv was good but only picked up around 50% of the normal channels.
Would I stay here again,,,, no.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Shilton Beds were really hard and uncomfortable
This hotel was great, staff were welcoming , good food , and really nice atmosphere , only problems had were that the bed was uncomfortable and hard and also the shower head was broken and sprayed everywhere , also at breakfast the buffet was not stocked up on the hot food very well, no sausage , bacon or mushrooms available and had to wait for these.
But i would recommend if these problems were ironed out

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nomads A taste of the Victorian era
Easy access to the centre of Sheffield, this old Victorian Railway hotel is comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful.
As you would expect the Holiday Inn breakfast was great value when pre booked with the room.
The pictures of the hotel history around the wall added to the interest of the hotel.

The hotel is full of character and staffed by friendly and welcoming staff. Herman and the team go out of there way to make sure everyone has a pleasant stay.
All rooms are large and comfortable with a gym and sauna is in the basement to let you work of excesses of the night before.
Located under 5 minutes outside Sheffield town centre or turn left at the bottom of the ramp and follow the Kelham Island Ale trail.

Stayed for 2 nights. First night spoiled by 'revellers' outside. Had to ask front desk to resolve which was eventually done. Windows not double glazed and don't shut completely in annex so noise
Food good, bar good, rooms very good size with comfortable beds.

We stayed only one night but the reception staff (tracey) was helpful and polite. She offered us an upgrade as Gold Elite members but after taking her advice (wedding parties) we declined. However the room in the new extension was very comfortable and clean with all the mod cons.
The Hotel is in a reclaimed cul-de -sac (old railway siding) and very separate from the City Cent-re but only a 400yd walk away from it, really good for access.
All in all one of the better Holiday Inns which we would gladly use again.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by kitchener Room 246 noisy
Arrived late to this hotel with my wife for family business. Unfortunately our room was very noisy overlooking a busy dual carriageway road from an old sash window which wouldn't close properly. After a very busy day we found it difficult to sleep. We would have asked to move to another room but for the lateness of the hour.
However the hotel is centrally located so would suit visitors to Sheffield. That side of the hotel needs double glazing.
Free wi-fi please to differentiate from Holiday Inn Express.
