Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BELGIUM W/ FAMILY After a long trip by car to Belgium. We finally arrived at the hotel (Kudos to my wife for driving)! We were greeted by the staff and was able to check in quickly. The property is conveniently located next to the Ghent and Bruges tram line. Breakfast was excellent with a good selection of items for the whole family! We would definitely be back again to explore more of Belgium and the Netherlands. May 30, 2014

We stayed at your hotel and except for a daily fight to reach the internet (room 340 has poor reception) we enjoyed staying with you. So, please don't change. You are o.k. April 22, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good service after reading some of the previous reviews and this being my first visit to this hotel, I was a little apprehensive.. However, i had no problems. Yes, the road leading to the hotel is a little like riding around a Go-Kart track, but this is not the hotel's fault, it is what it is. anyone with minimal common sense should have no problem finding the place... The staff were excellent. I received the usual friendly greeting and the service was just as good in the bar and restaurant. My room was clean and warm. I have no issue in recommending this hotel to other members. April 14, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unfriendly staff and poor breakfast What a disappointment. You always expect a warm welcome in hotel, especially when you are a platinum member. Not so in this hotel. I arrived around 11PM and the guy at the desk was more interested in the game (?) on his computer than new guests. Although the website of the hotel indicated there were executive rooms available I didn’t get an upgrade. Nor a voucher for a drink. Not even a bottle of water in my room. When I went back to complain he just ignored me. Breakfast was another big disappointment. Limited choices, scrambled eggs that ware very creamy and un-tasty, a fruit salad bowl that was empty when I arrived and still was 20 minutes later. Worst Holiday Inn ever. Don’t stay here. Especially because staff and general management don’t care. March 30, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not very happy with services On the first day of my arrival I noticed the room was very cold. I tried to turn the heating on and cold air was coming out. I informed reception who brought an electric heater. That night it went well. Following evening I was drying my hair and the hir dryr stopped working, the television (which was off at the moment) and the heating (which was on at the moment) went off. As it was late, I infirmed reception of the issue (they took my room number), when I arrived in the evening all the same issues were still not solved. So another night being cold in the room. Would have expected a better service from the beginning offering me another room or promptly solving the issues March 17, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Where Gold Elite brings no recognition I arrived at the hotel at 12:30 to be told the room was not ready. Being there for an exhibition and having driven over from the UK I needed to change so was directed to the nearby toilet. It was filthy, cramped and I had to wait for 5 minutes for another guest to finish emptying his bowels. Then the cleaner came along and asked me to be quick as she needed to finish her rounds. I abandoned the idea and went to see if the restaurant was open. I discovered there were toilets down there as broad as the Serengeti in comparison to the cramped bog I had been advised to use. I changed in there instead. If you require a taxi to go in to the city centre you should reckon on a 40 minute wait as I did, despite being told it was always "10 minutes" away by the front desk staff who couldn't have cared less every time I came in out of the cold to enquire where it was. If you are visiting the nearby Exhibition it is a great location. If you want to visit Gent, stay somewhere else because this Hotel has nothing else to recommend it. February 8, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Halfway point This hotel is located about halfway en route for us between England and Germany. We struggled finding the car park which led to some frustration but eventually we found it. The major downside was for us the lack of a direct, easy access from the car park into the hotel. Instead we had to carry our bags up the uncovered stairs. We got a friendly welcome and were recognised as (at the time) platinum members which resulted in an upgrade. The room was one if the biggest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in and was very clean apart from a white stench on the carpet which could have been food or sick. The mattress could have been a little firmer for our liking but we had a good, us disturbed sleep with a view of the atrium. We would certainly consider this hotel for another overnight stay on our travels, especially now that we know how to get to it. January 23, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good customer service Have stayed here several times, this particular stay was on 29/12 and have found the customer service to be consistently good which I find more important then if I find the room doesn't have any coffee in it...quick walk downstairs and the problem is resolved very courteously and efficiently. Location is ok, plenty of car parking spaces and a very efficient & cheap tram service to town about 8 mins walk from the hotel. Although a standard Holiday Inn set up I have found the service to be as good as the Crowne Plaza's etc which given the low average cost to stay here means it is even better value .They are a friendly well managed team! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good budget hotel This is a good budget hotel. Although it's located just off a fairly busy junction in Ghent the rooms are well soundproofed and quite quiet. The room was clean and serviceable, although poor water pressure made for a long and disappointing shower in the morning. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was of a fairly high standard for a budget stay -- plenty of variety -- although I would not recommend eating other meals here. Dinner was a very sorry affair with soggy pizza and microwave quality food at restaurant prices. Dine elsewhere. January 1, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overnighter This was our third stay at Holiday Inn Gent. Room facilities were generally okay but would have preferred milk pots rather than sachets of creamer. Again we did find some lights not working in the three rooms we had. Dinner was good but based on our previous experience we just had a starter as we have found these quite filling in previous years. The beds were on the soft side but not uncomfortable. Breakfast was very comprehensive but lacked (orange) marmalade again which I would expect to have been provided particularly with this hotel presumably still being a popular overnighter for coaching tours from UK. I had booked the break through a website other than ihg.com which was the cheapest deal for me despite IHG's guaranteed lowest price because they are not available through Quidco. Consequently, I was not recognised as an IHG Rewards member before arrival and missed out on upgrades. However, I was given a drinks voucher but this was not recognised by the restaurant staff. However, reception did give me a credit for it on checkout. January 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Would not hesitate to stay again We struggled finding the entrance to the car park and were disappointed to only find stairs from the car park to the hotel entrance as we had not used the ramp to check-in first. From the moment of checking in I felt valued and appreciated as a Platinum Elite member though and appreciated the complimentary upgrade. The room was of a very good size and very clean apart from one small patch on the carpet. This looked as if something had been spilled and badly cleaned up. We just walked around it though. We enjoyed the view into the atrium from our window and got a good night sleep with no disturbances. For our taste the mattress could have been slightly harder but as we only stopped for one night it was acceptable. As the hotel is perfectly located between our regular travelling points we would not hesitate to use it again in the future. January 1, 2014

Our stay was marred by the constant rumble of the air conditioning units from the nearby Expo conference centre and on our last night by the sound of running water from the drainage system (there was heavy rain) We had to change our room at 1.30am and in the morning, staff appeared to be unaware of the problems we had had the night before - but were good enough to give us a 50% discount on our last night's stay. Special notice and thanks to the guy who saw us looking confused in the centre of Ghent at the tram station (before we'd even checked in), offered us advice without us even asking, and who I then saw the next day on reception of Ghent Expo Holiday Inn! I couldn't believe it! He represented your hotel fantastically whilst not even on shift or in uniform - Please reward him, although I did not get his name. He summed up the friendliness of the Belgian people perfectly. December 18, 2013

Disappointed we could not get a beer or even a proper snack after midnight as bar closed too early We had forgotten our plug converter and we expected to be able to borrow one from reception but strangely they did not have any. As platinum welcome upgrade to an executive room - thank you Very knowledgeable front office staff. December 13, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service! I stayed in Ghent recently and stayed at the Holiday Inn due to it's location, parking in Ghent itself is a nightmare. The tram runs frequently and is a couple of 100m from the hotel. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The rooms were clean and everything worked as it should do. I would recommend this hotel, an ideal location, which serves a good breakfast! November 21, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect location for expo poor service/Staff We came for the installation of the Horeca Expo 2013, the location is perfect, the room is also great but we have a bad experience with the Staff. My visa didn't work, I don't know for which reason and she was a bit rude with us, finnaly I pay cash. Is not an important issue but these Kind of situation are already a bit difficult imagine in front of some rude staff. By the way the visa didn't work because the cell phone broke the band. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place to stay Gent is a nice town, the hotel is very conveniently located from the highways (if you are driving over from the UK). There is an excellent Tram connection to the centre so getting about is easy and very cost effective. The hotel offers plenty of room to move about (not always the case in hotels in city centres) - good sized rooms, reception area and the atrium is absolutely beautiful and functional. I would certainly stay there and also recommend it to anyone. November 11, 2013

Had to eat at hotel and were very pleasantly surprised at the quality. Very close to tram for easy access to train station and Brussels for example and to city centre . Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quality hotel Great location near Gent, just off J14 of E40 motorway (Calais-Gent-Brussels). Wanted to stay 4 nights but the 1 accessible room with walk-in shower was only available for 2 of the nights we wanted. Room 188 is not so large but it has everything we needed. I've encouraged hotel to consider making more "accessible" rooms available....as we really want to return. Relaxing place to stay! Despite issues with disabled parking (on both occasions we stayed here) I'm confident hotel will resolve. Entrance is elevated so being able to park immediately outside reception entrance is important to those who cannot walk. Day-time reception staff were delightful; we had a warm "welcome" on arrival. On departure, Jessie offered my young son some complimentary chocolates, very much appreciated. Spacious eating area with plenty of choice at breakfast. This time, we stayed with IHG loyalty points (but the room rates seemed good) October 26, 2013
