Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lasham Hotel OK, staff attitude poor.
This hotel is a bit dated but but overall quite comfortable. It's location is perfect alongside the riverside café's in the city centre.
Curiously double rooms come with one dressing gown and one pair of slippers. Coffee sachets are rationed to two a day per room. This is not a cheap hotel and this petty rationing does not make a guest feel very welcomed.
At check in the staff exchanged some rather derogatory remarks about me in Macedonian after I made a very simple request. Perhaps the manager could explain to them that some foreigners actually speak Macedonian.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Soulmia Courteous staff
We came to Skopje for a wedding. For some reason, we decided to get a regular room instead of a suite as we were assured it would be adequate. Wrong.
If you're two people with a couple of large bags, moving space is very restricted in the room.
However, the room itself was clean and always comfortable. They give you choice of firm or soft pillows too. The air conditioning gave us some trouble but for the rest it was ok.
The lobby and bar area seem deserted most of the time giving one the feeling that this hotel may not be the one of choice in the city.
Our deal included breakfast. We were a little disappointed as even though they changed parts of the breakfast everyday, the eggs offered were either an omelette or fried and both were over done and cooked and put on the buffet. No eggs to order.
The rest of the buffet was decent if you like a lot of local Macedonian foods such as grilled eggplants, mushrooms tomatoes etc. these would be good but they were all over done.
The staff however were extremely courteous and despite the language barrier, they tried to help the best they could.
At the rate they charged us (USD120) we thought it was good because it is located very close to the sites and restaurant strip ( literally behind the hotel)
Internet however was not complimentary.
All in all a pleasant experience in a wonderful country.

As in many hotels I find the crazy charge of €12 for wifi absolutely ridiculous when I can walk 2 minutes round the corner and sit in one of 20 coffe shops or bars and get it free of charge.
It is one of the most frustrating aspects of many hotels , you included.
The staff were excellent and the room very nice. It's ashame that I left with that state of mind.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by DJSM Air conditioning very poor
The air conditioning was very poor. Even though complaints were given to the front desk, nothing seemed to happen. Other than that, the room was fine. Good location.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by BC1970 Old fashioned and expensive
It is the 2nd time that I stayed at the HI Skopje.
The hotel urgently needs refurbishing.
The rooms are OK, but not great. Pillows are fine.
Breakfast is lousy.
Most annoying is that a 12 euro charge is billed for wifi, which is no longer acceptable for a business hotel.
I believe this hotel abuses the situation because of a lack of alternatives in Skopje. How long will this remain the case?
