We have stayed several times before going on a cruise, usually taking the cruise package, it's a nice comfotable way to start the holiday. Park the car and leave it in their parking area until you come back. A bonus is that you do not have to leave your car keys so when returning by taxi you can get your cases from the cab straight into your car.
Another bonus is the checkout time is midday so no rushing about it makes breakfast time more relaxing.
All the staff have been friendly and courteous on all our stays and that includes when we have needed to contact them by telephone.
The reason for the average star rating is basically because although it suits us fine for a pre holiday stop, for longer the lack of amenities in the room which is very comfortable it would put us off I.e. no fridge or safe and the limited restaurant menu would make us think again.

We stopped overnight in Southampton on our way to catch our cruise ship. In that respect the Holiday Inn is perfectly located; we could see the port from our window.
Finding the place presented one small problem as the postcode entered into our Sat Nav took us to a dock gate some distance away. We were pointed in the right direction by a passerby who informed us it happens all the time!
Reception was quick and easy and our room was clean, tidy and well presented.
The weather was bad on our arrival so we stayed in the hotel and found the restaurant good value for money with a wide choice available on the menu. Breakfast the following morning was equally as good with plenty of options.
Our only question would be why does Holiday Inn charge for overnight car parking? You're using their hotel facilities and hardly likely to arrive on foot.

As we have come to expect on our visits to this hotel the service and food is always excellent. A good dinner menu with plenty of choices, the breakfast was good, again plenty of choice and all freshly cooked and hot. Indeed the breakfast has become the highlight of the visit for me!
Our next visit is in June and I am already looking forward to it.

Previous Occupants hairs in bath
Air Conditioning not working - room stifling despite assurance it would be fixed. Provided with fan on day 2 but still very uncomfortable
Had interuption by window repair company engineers entering room to drill out and resecure window operating mechanism
Folowing day returned to room to find door ajar and window cleaner hanging out of window attached to safety line secured to bedroom floor (8th floor)

A nice clean, modern room, friendly helpful staff. A good stay. Staff stored our bikes for us.

This has got to be one of the best hotels i've stayed in and i've stayed in many. Six of us were going on a mini cruise and decided to stay here the night before the cruise. Every one of us was extremely pleased with everything from the service of the staff to the cleanliness of the rooms. The staff are a credit and a valuable asset to the company, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was plentiful, hot and a good variety of items. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Southampton. Thank you Holiday Inn for a lovely stay.

Very spacious room overlooking city cruise terminal. Quiet and clean. Staff in the dining room were helpful. Pre booked weeks before so got a very good rate directly from the website that included breakfast.
Excellent location for shopping, car parking and getting to the ship if thats your intention. Literally out of hotel short walk to terminal.

We have stopped here several times visiting our daughter at university and have always enjoyed the experience. The room view was fantastic from the 8th floor and the staff and service were excellent. We always use the gym and pool and find these relaxing after a day in Southampton. We will definitely be staying here again and would recommend to anyone wanting a great base to look around Southampton.
