Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by bimandsue great location to Excel Center
this hotel is in a great location for events at Excel Center. We didn't explore all areas around hotel but the restaurants in the hotel and close by were mostly burger, pizza, and wing types. One tip do not use GPS to get you there mine kept trying to take to west 7th Ave. when we wanted Street. I made a comment to the desk clerk and she said a lot of people have that problem with using GPS. Easiest way just look for gate 1 of the Excel Center

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mleaver Band outside my window until 2 am
I stayed at the Holiday Inn, St. Paul for the Twin Cities Marathon. There was, literally, a marching band outside my window for a hockey game happpening that evening. After the marching band ended, there was a very loud rock band playing in the bar across the street. The music was so loud, I could hear the lyrics from my 8th floor room. I called the front desk and they told me there was nothing they could do, but that the bar closed at 2 am and it should stop then.
In addition, the hotel was listed on the Twin Cities Marathon website, implying that there would be late checkouts. What I didn't know was that the runners were required to stay up until 12:01 am the morning of the marathon (or set up an alarm to get up at that time) to call the front desk and ask for one of the very few late check outs available.
I willl never stay at this hotel again. I would not suggest it if you value sleep.

Staying at this hotel was a pleasure. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The location downtown in St. Paul is very convenient. The restaurant next-door is excellent. Parking at this location is most convenient and available. I will stay here again

Extremely nice hotel. Very clean. Staff helpful and friendly. The food at Liffies is awesome and there are lots of nearby food places if you want to switch it up. It was nice to be able to just walk across the street to the XEC. Will stay here again for sure.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Rausch Just OK
Room was clean, Bathroom was not. Hair in shower and lots of dust on top of several things. Toilet almost overflowed every time we flushed it. View was amazing and liked the location a lot. Parking fee seemed a little steep of $14.00. There was no exhaust fan in the BR so after shower it got really hot and steamy in the room. No counter space in the BR at all. Bed was hard and towels had signs of ware and tear. Noisy room from lots of traffic below. Air conditioner did not work well at all. Shuttle to our wedding was fantastic and much appreciated. No free breakfast was a let down. Pool and hot tub were nice and clean but the pool was freezing!!! I would stay again hoping that all of these things were just "flukes"

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ida444 Close to everything.
The hotel was pretty much easy-off and easy-on the highway. We were able to walk to restaurants and bars. We especially liked that we had a safe parking ramp to park our vehicle. This was a small extra charge, but definitely worth it since finding a parking spot in the area is difficult. The staff was great and the room was clean. We will definitely come back again.

When I logged online to book this room using the website it did not say there was a $15 parking fee. So that was a surprise, I know I wouldnt get my points back if I cancelled the room at that point I was stuck staying there. Checking in the front desk clerk made a comment that I took offense to, she said to the lines of how did I get these points to redeem a free night stay. The hotel it self was ok, the house keepers were loud in the hallways and banged on our door then room service came. We didn't order room service at all and so much for sleeping in at that hotel. After staying there and looking at the website I found that in the fine print it shows the parking fee.. why couldn't you include this in the room rate????

I found this property to be a good value for the price. Highlights include the Great Staff who all seem to put customer service as the top priority including the front desk staff, the room (food) service and housekeeping staff. Overall rating = Excellent!

I was impressed with how quiet this hotel was, (we were staying there for a tweenie concert). I was not impressed with the size of the room or the breakfast that was offered in the restuarant. I have stayed at many Holiday Inns and this was by far the smallest.

As always, we enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn St Paul downtown... because of the staff, and the cleanliness of the hotel... it's proximity to the Xcel, this is the ONLY place we stay when we go to St Paul or Minneapolis. Have never had any bad words for this place, and it is always the first place I recommend to people. The food in the downstairs restaurant is great, and the service there is amazing as well...

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MOB2013iowa Great staff and great location
Many guests stayed here for my daughters wedding a few blocks away. Staff was friendly and bent over backwards to make everyone happy. They handed out our welcome bags and took great care of our guests. . We took advantage of the location...plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and their own pub, The Liffey, was used frequently. They didnt even mind when we brought in bagpipes. The rooms were nice with coffee, fridge, and microwave. Rooms were Clean and bathrooms featured Bath and Body products, beds comfortable.

Overall we had a decent experience. The hotel room was small but clean. One bed was great while the other was noisy and uncomfortable. The pool area was small but clean. The resrturant was amazing. We had great food and drinks there. We had one extremely helpful clerk, while another one gave us improper instructions and said a store was a mile down the road. We ended up turning around after a mile and half walk if 85 degree weather.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lompie Good overall
Staff are very nice and helpful. Very conveniently located. $15/day for parking is a little heavy
Pillows are awful and the towels are gray and threadbare form overuse.
Did not appreciate the fact that the restaurant charged me $3 for a cup of milk to make coffee.
Will be going back and hoping they make some small changes.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 3k2d1h poor online information
I booked this on line and apparently when booking a "standard room" you "get what you get" when you check in. When i booked the picture was of a room with two double beds, which is what we needed for a family of 5. when we arrived we received a room with a king. had two of the kids sleeping on the floor and one in the bed. needless to say, the manager was rude and disrespectful, stating "I can just find you a room at the crowne, I', sure they have space." she then printed out the information from online, stating "had you read this, it explains the rooms". i asked her why there was a picture of a double bed etc. and stated i had cancelled a reservation that only gave me a king, so how did i end up with a king? it was ridiculous. she was rude, and short with me. though i will say per our request they sent up 6 pillows for my kids to sleep on while on the floor. she said they can no longer do roll aways due to fire codes.
its too, bad, i seek out holiday inns, to try and keep the kids a a family friendly hotel. not the case here!

Here for a 10K run with friends that was held several blocks away. Typically stay here, but this time I ended up on the street side and it was quite noisy and I did not feel that the beds were very comfortable thus I did not sleep well. There may have been a few night before a run jitters too but the bed and noise did not help. The room was clean. The drain in the shower did not drain properly so that was somewhat gross. Otherwise, staff was great. I like this hotel and will likely stay again in the future due to convenience.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Visitor999000 Great service but only fair bathrooms
Our overall experience was good! The staff was excellent, they offered to change our room in order to have internet access (they had been updating the internet on our original floor and had not finished it so to accommodate us they gave us a different room that had excellent internet). The bed was comfortable, they offered firm and soft pillows, which was extremely nice and the rooms were overall very nice. The location was great and the restaurant attached to the hotel was AMAZING! It had a great rooftop area and the food was excellent! If we ever go back to St. Paul we would absolutely go back there for breakfast, lunch or dinner!
Our only reservation is regarding the bathrooms. There was no ventilation, lots of dust on the one air vent in the bathroom and the shower desperately needed to be sealed around the top of the shower. The shower also did not drain very well which was somewhat unpleasant. Besides that - the place was very nice!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Holby Fabulous location, walked and biked to many shops and restuarants
great location, try the Liffie rooftop bar and restuarant, nice atmosphere, food and adult beverages. We also had our bikes along and biked 15 miles along a very serene riverside trail just down a short hill from the hotel. It was a 33rd anniversary getaway and we also walked to downtown shops, restuarants and pubs including live music. Highly recommend this as an small city urban vacation, we never used our car until we checked out.

The check-in service was outstanding. The gal who helped me (maybe her name was Jennifer? I meant to write it down and remember because she was GREAT) was fast, helpful and very kind. Met friends at the hotel bar/restaurant and it was excellent. Again, good service, and the food quality was amazing!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GG65 Good choice for overnight after concert
The room was clean and the beds were reasonably comfortable. I had requested an upper floor room to avoid noise from younger concert-goers. The clerk at the desk warned me that the Internet wasn't working on the upper floor. This was okay, but I would have been happier with working Internet. Rooms have small fridges which is nice. On the 8th floor, there is no ice machine. We had to go downstairs for ice, which wasn't a big deal. The room was reasonably quiet but the fan in the bathroom, which can't be turned off, was very loud. We had a great view. Overall it was a pretty good experience and an affordable place to stay. If you are in St. Paul for an event downtown I would recommend it.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by E227 Service was lacking
Due to a change in travel plans, arrived in St. Paul 3 hours before 4PM check in time. A room was not ready, which was understandable. I then asked if we could use the pool in the meantime, and was told no, in a way where I felt I was being talked down to. Didn't find her very accommodating or friendly at all. When I did check in at 4PM, the gentleman at the front desk was much more friendly.
