Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff service n a little improvements. Staff was unaware of my Gold status as it was not stated during booking. But immediately acknowledge upon knowing. Room service Staff also made extra effort to get my shaver when requested. Front desk staff even recommended the type of newspaper as I am unfamiliar. For improvement, I understand its for Green environment, but should provide basic toiletries in the room although available at the lobby. Would also prefer disposable room slippers so that it helps to make the room cleaner. but this is more Asian culture as we don't wear shoes in the room. December 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and extremely pleasant and friendly staff Having booked three rooms for a long weekend, I couldn't wait to celebrate my birthday with family. We were not disappointed! The hotel was in a perfect location to suit all guest ages, from river walks and boat trips to the shops, theatre and restaurants. Having said that, we didn't eat outside as the a la carte menu and service in the hotel restaurant was so good and reasonable that we all decided to eat there every evening. Mind you it was only on the last evening that we were told IHG card holders get 20% off their restaurant bill - never knew that in all these years I've been an IHG member. Lovely pool and jacuzzi (my 4 year old son was disappointed he couldn't go in the jacuzzi due to age restrictions/health and safety but that aside we all had a wonderfully relaxing time. He was happy splashing in the pool. The restaurant staff were very attentive, albeit service was a little slow but we were in no hurry. The reception staff were so helpful and friendly. Extremely knowledgeable and they even remembered my name the next day when I asked them about reserving a table in the restaurant - it's the little things that matter and that impressed me, especially with the number of guests they had checking-in and out of the hotel. The only grumble was that our rooms were on the first floor and being the festive time of year, Corporate Christmas parties were held on both the Friday and Saturday evenings. The music was so loud that when in bed we could sing along to the words of each song! Frustrated at not being able to sleep, we turned it into a game to see if we could guess which song the DJ would play next - sleep came in the end but in the early hours of the morning. Would have preferred our rooms away from the music or on a higher floor. That's the only downside to our fantastic weekend. We will definitely be returning next year for a summer birthday celebration! December 5, 2013

Easy to find and located centrally near to shops, bars and restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was really nice in the main restaurant. Would recommend for anyone staying in the area. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Some Good - Some Average/Poor Stayed for 2 nights, Friday and Saturday and have been here before some time ago. Used a s a base for the NEC car show. Arriving at 9.30pm the receptionist was pleasant but she blamed the computer system for the 5 minutes it took to find our booking. Then off to our room. The door of which looked like the drugs squad had just been there, what a disgrace. Into room and it was a twin and we have never ever asked for a twin. Had a look around and noticed a dodgy hair on the bath. Nice. Partner goes down as I'm trying to book somewhere else if we cannot be moved. After an eternity she comes back to say we are moving room. It seems the hopelessly slow computer system was to blame for the 10 minutes she was away. Another party of around 10 were also having problems it seems. New room, a double, was much better although the odd cobweb, rising damp on the outside wall and black mould around the bath are not what to expect in a 4 star hotel. Going to the bar for a bar meal, found the staff here very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. Passing a member of reception in the corridor we smiled but no response. All the cleaners and other staff very nice and always said hello. Bar food was really good but choice of bitter was poor, just the one and no well known brands such as John Smiths which surprised us. Despite numerous functions each night we never heard a thing and had 2 very quiet nights sleep. The new bar area and reception are very agreeable, so it is to hoped the rooms will get the same attention. Check out was fast though, no pleasantries such as 'did you have a nice visit?' or 'your rewards points are taken care of' or 'hope to see you with us again' etc. No mention of Rewards Points which seems to be the norm for this hotel chain especially when using trainees. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Let down a little We had stayed at the hotel in August whilst the changes to reception,bar etc. were in hand and came back together with friends after enjoying a pleasant stay the first time around. We were looking forward to seeing the difference and we were not disappointed. Everything was, as our first visit, excellent; the new reception area is open and bright, the bar area, small but compact and comfortable with lovely views over the river. Rooms were clean and comfortable with plenty of space and all staff were friendly, helpful and professional. There were however a couple of points: 1. It was cold in the bar area, heaters had been supplied but it was still cold and we have only just started with Winter. 2. Again in the bar, tables had not been cleaned after the departure of previous guests and after asking for an ice bucket to be removed and the table wiped down it was taking so long we did it ourselves. The bar staff to be fair appeared busy but what would it be like if the place was full? I doubt they would have coped. I would like to think these are just teething problems in the new area, it would be a shame to ruin what has been a lovely transformation. November 20, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Stay on Thursday Nov 14-one night only We arrived before actual check-in time of 2:00p.m. but was checked in by a very polite and courteous receptionist. The entrance foyer, bar area and restaurant had been refurbished since our last stay in July 2013. Room 2012 was comfortable, but decor was tired and needed a makeover. The newly refurbished public areas were quite cold, and heating was provided by rather utilitarian, industrial looking heaters. We did eat in the restaurant in the evening. However we did have breakfast which was acceptable in view of the fact that we were charged only £5.00 each for it. November 18, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor air-conditioning and poor working attitude I checked in on 4th November, it was pleasant to know that I was upgraded to executive room 1005. When I go up to my room - it was miles away from the lift :-(. I was back in my room after dinner about 8pm and noticed that the air-conditioner in the room does not provide heating. Call the front desk and immediately she apologized as if she knew the problem. She 'checked' and said that no other executive room available - the Hotel will provide "Heating Fan". I was not happy ! About 9pm the alarm went off ...it was extremely disturbing. I got upset and demanded to talk to the duty manager. She said it was a false alarm. I then complain about the air-conditioning problem. She said she will check if there are suites available. She found one 2081. My wife and I went to check it out. It is a very big and nice suite - just that has very odd configuration. The toilet and bath room is not within the room, it is more like outside in the hall. There are too many adjointing doors - my wife was not comfortable with the room. So we decided not to move. Duty manager promised me that the air-conditioner shall be fixed the next day. Well it was fixed. When we got back to the room at 6pm. The air-conditioner was blasting - the room was hot like 30 degrees ! I turned it off to cool down the room. Afte 30 min I turned it on at 20 degrees and low - it was still providing very hot air and cause the room to be very hot. WE had no choice - but to off the air-conditioner and use the "heating fan" Due to the in-consistent heating in the room for 2 nights. I caught a cold and turned to flu when I arrived at Windermere! For the next 3 days I had to take FLU medication and my holiday was a disaster ! I am unhappy with the Hotel because 1. As it is winter already - there should be engineers on duty to fix the air-conditioner when I reported the problem at 8pm. 2. The 2nd day when the engineer fixed the air-conditioner - they should check the -thermostat ! make sure the temperature setting works ! How should a PLATINUM member be compensated for such a POOR experience at your hotel ? Other problems 1. Hand towel - only 1 during the first night, and it disappeared on the 2nd day. NO hand towel at all. 2. Water Glasses - 2 during the the first night, disappeared after house keeping clean up the room. 3. When request for house keeping to bring back the water glasses, she brought 2 wine glasses instead. :-( This is the worst experience I have had with IHG. Not only the 2 nights were not comfortable, it ruined my holiday because of the FLU! I wrote the above to the duty manager - unfortunately for the past few days there were no response. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service, poor admin Good points: - Excellent situation, convenient to town and theatre. - Comfortable, well-appointed public spaces. - Rooms well furnished and comfortable. - Restaurant service and food excellent. BUT: - Reception said we had paid for breakfast, restaurant said we hadn't. Went and sorted this out, we thought, at reception, but the same thing happened the next day, and the next. Don't mind paying for breakfast, but don't like being messed around. Can't reception and restaurant communicate with each other? This left a sour taste and might have spoiled the stay. - Wedding party on Saturday night made sleep pretty impossible throughout the hotel until the early hours. Is there a way of managing both? Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by All you need for a short break We have stayed here quite a few times now and keep coming back, so that speaks for itself. This hotel is excellent value if you take advantage of special offers. It has the best central Stratford location with a lovely river frontage garden where you can relax to read the morning papers or take an evening drink. Rooms are spacious and well sound insulated given the proximity of nearby roads and have comfy beds, and there is plenty of parking. The newly refurbished ground floor looks lovely and reflects the theatrical connection, although not too sure about the mask sculpture (wrong expressions) and the brightly coloured giant chairs outside. There is also some lovely new garden terrace furniture and lighting. The staff, as ever, were pleasant, helpful and welcoming, and I am delighted to say that the restaurant breakfast coffee is now much improved, even though it comes from a machine! October 30, 2013

Despite booking an executive room, we were amazed to discover that we couldn't open our windows but found out that neither could many of the other guests - they screw them shut! (if I wanted to jump, I wouldn't pay big bucks for a room, then leap out of the window!) Also they want to charge you for Wi-Fi, when it's free in 'lesser' establishments. Staffing levels are quite low, particularly in reception and they aren't very helpful when you've got to the front of the queue. October 24, 2013

We were going to eat in town but weather stopped us going out, pleased it did special deal with glass of wine was fantastic. Food excellent. Will definitely be back. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, staff helpful and friendly We stayed at Stratford as part of our honeymoon and found everything we needed at Holiday Inn. At the time of our stay the hotel was being renovated and therefore we had to go the long way round to access the leisure facilities etc., no big hardship though and the sweets in our room were a nice gesture. The only one thing that I would have raised as a negative was that the pool was also being renovated and there were missing and cracked tiles everywhere, however it was just unfortunate that we went at this time as I am sure that it will be perfect now. The location of the hotel is first class and is right on the waterside for the River Avon. We took a short boat tour from the hotels own mooring which was excellent value for money. Just a few minutes stroll from the hotel is the centre of Stratford with some excellent restaurants as well as the Shakespeare attractions. We had a slight problem with the electronic room key however the staff responded really well and couldn't have done any more. We had only just joined the IHG rewards programme and we were really impressed by the experience and this has given us a reason to choose IHG in the future, probably for life. Overall a really enjoyable stay at the HI Stratford and we would highly recommend. October 22, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Unimpressive Stay Booked a room with a kingsize bed and got two single beds pushed together. Although I've bought a few beds in my time I'm no expert in beds but I don't ever recall going to a bed shop and seeing two single beds being peddled as a kingsize. The two outer ridges of the single beds were uncomfortable to lie on when in the central area of the two beds. In the end I used only one side of the bed to lie on which is disappointing as I could have booked a double room and not had this issue. Unfortunately for me I only realised the issue at the point of turning in for the evening so decided that the disruption of a move should one have been available was not worth the aggravation. I was asked at check out if I had a pleasant stay, at which point I offered my view on the two single beds being used as a kingsize and was told that I was wrong and two singles make a king. Not in my book. It displeases me greatly to be asked questions like this and offer nothing other than a disingenuous "sorry" in return. I'd prefer not to be asked in the first place. The ground floor public / bar areas appear very nice, well presented and modern, the room itself desperately needs updating, it didn't smell the freshest, maybe a bit damp coming from the aging low tech bathroom. My room was on the first floor and I did pick up most of the noise from an entrance/exit area below, but this was only occasional to be fair and pretty much stopped by 11pm. The in room heating unit offered no heat, only lots of noise and cold air despite being set to 30 degrees. There was some recognition for my platinum status but less compared with other same branded hotels I've stayed in lately. Complimentary parking and a bonus points voucher was offered, no upgrade provided. In-room wi-fi wasn't great, the signal wasn't that strong, would have been disappointed to have paid for it. I'll not rush to use this hotel again. October 20, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic service but a few annoyances Staff always friendly and helpful, Good quality hotel, particularly after a refurbishment of parts of the building. Rooms could do with a refurbishment also, but are of a reasonable quality, fairly comfortable, and usually clean, but occasionally they could be cleaned more thoroughly or carefully to ensure no 'hairs' are left! would be good if there were more and healthier vegetarian options on your menu. WiFi is annoying as it cuts off at 8:00am on the dot every morning if the 12 hour package is selected, even if you purchase at 10:00pm the previous night! therefore you do not get the full 12 hours! Now that it's free for me it's not so much of an issue, but would be if I was still paying! Another annoying issue is that the 'crown' package is given on the first night stay and not always / consistently on a 2nd nights stay - I do not mind but make a decision and be consistent October 15, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect weekend 8 of my extended family stayed here to celebrate a family birthday. The hotel is at a great location and we were able to walk into town and we did a river trip from the hotel jetty . We also used the hotel pool which the children loved and celebrated with dinner at the hotel in the evening and the food was delicious, they catered well for the vegetarians in the family. Family rooms spacious as were the standard rooms. We sat on the lovely riverside terrace for afternoon tea. We all said we would definitely return. Ages of party were 10 to 80. October 9, 2013
