We stayed at this hotel for its location as we were going to a concert at the Opera House and was able to walk to the event. Loved the location. Loved the roof top pool and spa however at this time of year (May) the pool was a bit too cold and the spa was too hot and you can't see the view from the spa. It was noisy out on the street on the Saturday night and a church bell chiming every hour kept me awake the entire night but apart from that, the hotel itself met our expectations and we had a good time and enjoyed our stay. We had a problem leaving the Wilsons Car Park (our ticket which we validated at the hotel didn't work) but the hotel staff were extremely apologetic and fixed the problem with minimal fuss. Would recommend. Would stay here again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Haynes family Excellent family holiday in Sydney
We had a really nice and relaxing holiday in Sydney, and the Holiday Inn (Old Sydney) is ideally situated to all the main attractions and ferries at circular quay. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, the room was clean and serviced each day, and the Internet was provided within the room charge (added bonus with a family armed with gadgets).
Overall an excellent holiday , and thank you for the wonderful family experiences. Haynes family.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by JSmisek great location, rundown hotel
Hotel is in a great location, convenient to the major landmarks of Sydney and easy walking to numerous restaurants and the Circular Quay rail station.
I realize this hotel is in a historic building. The ambiance of the corridors and the rooms reflect this - everything looks and feels old.
The rooftop deck, however, is a great place to view the skyline of downtown Sydney, the Opera House, and Harbor Bridge.
The high rates must reflect the location and demand. The rooms look and feel like a cheap airport hotel.

Best hotel in Sydney. Location: 10/10: in The Rocks with Sydney Harbour (Opera House, Harbour Bridge) a short walk away. Staff: 10/10: cleaners left my hotel room sparkling clean each day. Hotel itself: 10/10: historic building which has all the mod cons yet still retains a sense of history. Loved the (saltwater/heated) rooftop swimming pool, with its views of Sydney Harbour. Very cosy by the fireplace in the hotel lobby. The only place I stay when visiting Sydney (unless hotel is booked out).

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and were very impressed with the quality of customer service on arrival and throughout our stay....even the maintenance guy in the lift was very polite and cheerful! The hotel itself is spotless and a nice open, fresh feeling. Room was great, view was stunning and our complimentary upgrade to a king room was very much appreciated. We left our bags with the hotel after checkout as our flight was delayed and we decided to walk around Sydney. Bags were tagged and taken by staff into a secure area. Swimming pool on 8th floor has stunning views of opera house and harbour bridge. Hotel location is fantastic...very close to Circular Quay. We have stayed at other hotels which were more expensive and did not come even close to the service and overall positive experience of the Holiday Inn. We recommend this hotel to everyone....it's perfect! We will definitely been staying here again soon.

Old Sydney is perfectly located in the heart of Sydney's Rocks area on George Street and is a 1 minute walk (out the front entrance# to the famous Rocks Markets. It is surrounded by excellent quality restaurants and has easy access via a 5 minute walk to trains and buses that service Sydney and beyond as well as tour buses. I booked a Queen size room for two people. I was given Room 419. The room was spacious and clean, plenty of room for storage of suitcases etc. The view from the room was of the city. Noise was not a problem. Wardrobe had plenty of space. Bathroom, although a little small, was clean. Boiling hot water in the shower with a shower head that actually produced water and not just a drip. All amenities were replenished every morning at a reasonable hour #not mid to late afternoon as I have experienced in other hotels#. WIFI was going to cost $18 / day which I thought was quite expensive, however I was encouraged to sign up for IHG Rewards #which I did not mind doing), in which case I received free WIFI throughout the duration of my stay and had no problems connecting and the speed appeared above average. Room had a mini-fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. Check-in and checkout was a breeze and I was met by Ryan at the front desk who could not have been more polite, professional and welcoming. All in all, an excellent hotel that I would have no problem recommending or staying at again.
