Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The excellent staff make this a great place to stay every time We have stayed in this hotel on a number of occasions and find the staff to be very attentive and helpful. Nothing is too much triuble and they go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. While the room fitouts are a bit old, the size of the rooms is pretty good for a hotel of this vintage. And it is hard to beat the location! Thank you to all the staff. We look forward to returning to this hotel the next time we stay in Sydney. January 25, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Will definately return! Staff extremely helpful and quick to rectify an initial mix up. Bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in when staying at a hotel. Despite being on a main street the room was well insulated from noise and light so the outside environment did not effect our sleep at all. And the roof top pool was great for my son to enjoy while I enjoyed the views of the the Harbour Bridge and Opera House from the rooftop. Also fabulous location for us as we were heading off on a cruise and had a less than 5 minute walk to our ship. January 23, 2015

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by WORST Holiday Inn location There is no "specific references to other hotel brands" in my review. This is the second rejection for poor reasoning from IHG customer review. Please identify what is incorrect. Review below this line. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I will start with the fact that I have status in the IHG program and stay frequently at the Holiday Inn locations while I travel for work. On average I stay at a Holiday Inn 2-3 times per week depending on my travel schedule. This by far is the WORST Holiday Inn location, in my opinion. I will describe why this is my feeling towards this location at 55 George Street in (the Rocks), New South Wales Australia. While I do understand this is a very old, potential historic building, the interior is in need of an extreme makeover. The lobby is an open concept, which is quite nice, but that's where my good comments end on this property. The staff was helpful, but only if they understood the English language. At least two were not well versed in the language and could not adequately convey the information requested or provide an intelligible response to questions. I requested a Harbor view room upon making the reservation, but there "were no rooms available." A few days prior to arrival an email was sent out to indicate that upgrading to the Harbor view was now open if interested. In order to obtain the "partial view" room, which would be frequently blocked by the docked cruise ships, would cost an additional 20% more on top of the already prepaid amount. To add insult to injury, hotel rewards points are blacked out during the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Beyond the ridiculous cost of the stay, breakfast is usually included in most if not all of the Holiday Inn locations, not this one though. For double a typical breakfast outside the hotel, per person, you get a buffet, a poor one at that. The eggs were not only cold and not fully cooked (slimy), but sitting in a liquid of some kind, most likely water, since milk apparently is not used to cook eggs here. The bacon was not cooked properly and the rest of the food was cold as well. Even the newly prepared food was luke warm once placed into the buffet. I found no redeeming factors in the buffet and found food outside the hotel every possible chance. Now to the rooms. The picture of the rooms shown on the web site are misleading, most rooms are small and dark with old paint and carpeting. The room had a bed that should have been replaced about 5 years ago. Not only was it lumpy, but had multiple depressions causing back pain and poor sleep. The pictures show a brightly lit room and bathroom, not the case in person. There is no window in the bathroom, that must be the EXECUTIVE room, the SUPERIOR and STANDARD rooms that I saw are not this way. The pool view picture is from higher location and the view isn't as good as shown. If you are going for the fireworks, find a location that looks perpendicular to the bridge, that's the best view. The room was “cleaned” daily, but I found dust, dirt, grime, mold and mildew all over the room. Frequently, towels and robes were not fully replaced, the tissues and the toilet paper ran out and was not replaced a few times. Other than the close proximately to the Sydney Opera House, I found few redeeming factors in this hotel. January 22, 2015
