Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Increased price and major renovation I've stayed at this location multiple times in the past, so I was suprised that my rate had such a sharp increase. This was compounded when pulling into the parkinglot to find it torn up with caution tape strung, the lobby mostly gutted- giving the poor counter staff a tiny hostess-sized workplace. The restaurant was gutted and tarped off while drywall crews came in and out. Meals were served in the updated, yet rather tacky-70's outfitted bar. This made it rather difficult for the lone waitress to run back and forth from where a kitchen was located to where the tables of hungry diners were just to be able to deliver lukewarm food. The applewood bacon is still supurb, cold or not. Every visit I have ever had at this location has been wonderful, until this one. The room while comfortable, tries to be overly chic with many metallic panels on the walls and headboard. With the afternoon sun coming through the window, the whole room takes on an errie pink glow. This is upscale Michigan wine country not New York faux-trend. The staff, while not nearly as numerous as in the past, was still gracious and caring. I travel twice a year to this location, -I'm not sure if this will be my fall lodging choice at this time. May 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stay I had an excellent experience at the Holiday in Traverse City. I was the first person to stay in the newly refurbished room and it was wonderful! It was quiet and very comfortable. I love the blackout blinds. It was a good price for being right on the water. I did not eat at the hotel so I can not rate the food. April 26, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by What a Disappointment! I suppose the plastic tarps stapled up on the backside of the building and the prior reviews should have been a warning. I walked around the side of the building and found a door to enter in that was on the edge of the rehab zone. This property is in desperate need of a facelift from top to bottom. The interior decor is antiquated. The upgraded jacuzzi suite I was in was very old - walls discolored, old paneling, jacuzzi squeaked when ran, and the shower in the bathroom was abysmal. I could hear the ice machine cycle in the hall over the course of the night repeatedly. The only redeeming feature of the room was the corner window allowing a view of a sliver of Lake Michigan. It felt like the staff were embarassed to eb stuck in this dowager hotel. It has seen better days -- I really hope that the owner will put the proper funds into rehabbing her. Because what I took away from the experience was one of the more unpleasant hotel stays in recent memory. IHG deserves a better ambassador property in this town. I really hope your plans will achieve that because I hate to leave negative reviews. March 18, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Front Desk Incompetence I stayed at this hotel for business and my company faxed over the credit card information for payment. Upon checking in, I was required to provide them with my credit card for incidentals. I expressed a concern about them taking my cc information. The clerk reassured me that my cc would not be charged for anything other than incidentals, which I never incur. Well, I just received my cc statement and guess what…they charged my cc again!! I called to get the situation resolved and the clerk told me that there was no manager on duty and that there was nothing she could do. I was advised to call on the following day and speak to a manager then. They screwed up and I have to take time making multiple phone calls to get their mistake corrected! Needless to say, I will be disputing the charge with my cc company due to the staff’s incompetence. I am a Platinum Priority Club member and I will never stay at this hotel again! March 2, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Needs improvement The location of the hotel is superb...on the water and walking distance to downtown is fabulous. The pool and hot tub are fun. Have stayed at the hotel a couple of times a year for the last several years....things are going downhill. Hopefully the remodeling you are doing will make the difference. That silly night club needs to go...it drags the hotel down. We had a room right above where the club smokers gather...as the night went on they got louder and louder...a real nuisance. The rooms are clean...but dated. The food at the sports bar is garbage and expensive. This hotel is such a jewel that has been left unattended. March 1, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dirty Sheets and poor night staff When we checked in the guy at the front desk was to busy flirting with another staffer to get my room keys, or answer my questions, he did this between talking to the girl. Got to our room, paid for ahead of time with a request for a crib - no crib in the room. pulled out the sofa sleeper to find dirty stained sheets, very gross. No contential breakfast and had to take the kids pass the bar and nightclub to get to the pool. The best part of the stay however was the staff at CW's Bistro, they were wonderful and both went out of their way to make our breakfast a pleasant one. After leaving and checking out though for my prepaid room i have a nearly $40.00 hold on my card for incidentials (we didn't have any) They put a hold on my debit card for five days and we not even aplogetic or helpful when i called to find out what it was and how fast it can be removed. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Renovations The renovations can't happen fast enough. During my last stay, the alarm clock was filthy... it had some brown gunk caked to the back of it... rather disturbing. My corporate "loyalty" discount was eliminated without notice so now I'm paying more money for an outdated hotel. I've never stayed anywhere else in TC over the past 12 years, so "loyalty" appears to be a thing of the past. Very disappointing to say the least! December 20, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Older hotel best suited for summer vacationers Not a good choice for the business traveller in the off season. Internet with only a handful of guests staying was at best adequate. Old hotel that is due for an update. I would recommend checking their website and finding out if the projected facelift is complete before booking. November 27, 2012
